IMD job: HamsterRun v2 public site (8-bit console UI)

Build and host a static or light Next.js public site for HamsterRun v2 on Sepolia.

Do not claim official Squeek mining, SQK yield, insurance, or airdrop guarantees.

Do not reuse v1 contracts (CoreReader / TrainBook / MatchBook / SeasonBoard / PointsLedger / SqueekCore).

Visual direction — 8-bit game console (stronger than last site)

Reference mood: pocket handheld / NES-era console UI, not a flat web dashboard.

CRT / handheld frame: site content sits inside a console bezel (dark plastic + screen inset). Optional scanlines / slight vignette on the game screen only.

True 8-bit type: pixel font (e.g. Press Start 2P or similar), hard-edge pixels, no blurry scaling; prefer nearest-neighbor for sprites.

Limited palette: 4–8 colors per surface (deep navy / mint / amber / magenta accents on black-green terminal or soft CRT beige — pick one coherent set and stick to it).

Chunky chrome: D-pad / A-B style buttons for primary actions (Connect, Mint, Feed, Train, Enqueue); soft web buttons are secondary.

HUD panels: stamina / weight / fed timer / weekly quota as RPG status bars or 8-bit meters, not Material cards.

SFX optional: tiny click / confirm blips on successful tx (mute toggle); no autoplay music mandatory.

Still playful hamster vibe; favicon + OG image in the same 8-bit style.

Mobile: frame can collapse to a full-bleed “Game Boy” portrait; keep tap targets ≥44px.

Prior pixel site (v1) for contrast only: https://hamsterrun-small-paws-big-advent.imd.site/ — rebuild against v2 ABIs, do not keep Core lag UI.

Confirmed Sepolia contracts (v2)

MatchQueue 0x98d449abfaeaa0d0ebd0cf073f19faae24d32308

Owner (display / wiring only): 0x6C14430adacc99e27F6180bC5a74d6768616BF4A.

Post-deploy owner steps (may still be pending when you ship):

setMatchQueue(MatchQueue) once → setMintOpen(true).

Food defaults already on-chain: 0.0001 / 0.0002 / 0.0003 ETH, train bps 10000 / 15000 / 20000.

Site must read live mintOpen / matchQueue; if mint closed or queue unbound, show an honest “not open yet” console banner — never fake mint success.

Use ABIs from the repo (abi/HamsterRunNFT.json, abi/MatchQueue.json). Pin formulas from DESIGN.md / README.md (stamina uncapped from 10, weight Fit/Normal/Obese, 72h feed, 6h train, band floor(stamina/25), 10-block queue wait, etc.).

Must-have pages / flows

Connect wallet (EIP-1193: MetaMask / Rabby / Frame). Auto-prompt switch to Sepolia. Don’t auto-open wallet sheet on first paint.

Free mint — HamsterRunNFT.mint() (1 per wallet while open, max supply 9999). Show mintOpen, totalSupply, owned token IDs; start stamina 10, weight Normal.

Care HUD — pick owned HAM; show stamina, weight class + body score, fedUntil countdown, train readyAt, weekly match quota.

Feed three tiers with exact ETH (low / mid / high); Hungry blocks train + queue.

Train start → wait 6h → settle (permissionless settle OK).

Match queue — enqueue into stamina band; show band id, queue depth, QUEUE_WAIT_BLOCKS (10) eligibility; anyone can requestRound / fulfillRound / settleMatch when ready. No manual opponent id. Explain two-player camping limitation briefly in help text.

Invite (off-chain only) — input X (Twitter) handle, generate shareable invite link /?ref= (or /invite/). Persist attributions client-side + small backend/serverless (handle → invitee wallets + timestamps). No on-chain referral.

Invite leaderboard — rank by successful invite count (prefer: wallet connected + minted). Show handle, invites, truncated wallets. If invite service URL unset, show offline clearly — no infinite “Loading…”.

8-bit branding — title HamsterRun / HAM; console chrome throughout; mobile-friendly.

Out of scope

Breeding, land, mainnet, transferable points, real SQK rewards, SqueekCore / v1 contracts, changing Solidity / redeploying, paid keeper bots.

Success

Public HTTPS URL where a Sepolia wallet can: connect → mint one HAM (when mintOpen) → feed / train → enqueue and complete a random match (with a second pet in-band) → set an X handle, copy invite link, and see the invite board update after a second wallet mints via that link — all inside a coherent 8-bit console UI with honest mint/queue status.

The HamsterRun v2 site is built and committed: source in web/ and the static export in dist/. The live mint and queue flows can't run yet, because on Sepolia right now mint is closed and the match queue isn't bound to the NFT. No transaction was signed in testing, so mint, feed, train, enqueue and the round steps are untested against the real contracts. The site reads that state live and shows a "not open yet" banner that names the two owner steps still to do: setMatchQueue, then setMintOpen(true).

    What's there

    • Look: the whole site sits inside a navy handheld bezel with a black-green screen. Scanlines are on the screen only. Headings and buttons use the Press Start 2P pixel font, and the hamster sprite gets slimmer or chubbier with its weight class. On phones the console goes full-bleed in portrait.
    • Controls: primary actions are chunky A buttons, and undo-style actions (cancel training, leave queue, expire round) are B buttons. The D-pad under the screen works: left/right changes screen, up/down changes pet. There's an 8-bit favicon, a share image, and optional blip sounds with a mute toggle.
    • Connect: browser wallets (MetaMask, Rabby, Frame), "Open in" links for phone wallets, and Coinbase Smart Wallet. It never opens on page load, and it offers to switch to Sepolia (or add it) when the wallet is on another chain.
    • Play screen: mint, your HAMs, and status bars for stamina, weight, food timer, training and races this week. Three exact-price feed buttons, then train, settle or cancel.
    • Race screen: your band, queue depth, the 10-block wait per entry, enqueue/leave, and anyone can request, fulfil, expire or settle a round. A short note explains that two pets alone in a band always race each other.
    • Honest success: every transaction is checked against the contract first, and success is only shown after the receipt confirms it. Contract errors are turned into plain sentences.
    • Invites: save your X handle, copy a ?ref=<handle> link or post it on X, and see a leaderboard ranked by invitees who connected and minted.
    • Docs: DESIGN.md now opens with the site design (colors, type, components, mobile behavior). The original contract spec is kept below it. The README explains how to install, preview and rebuild.

Invite service: invite-service/server.mjs is written but not hosted anywhere. Until someone runs it and puts its URL in dist/config.json, the board says "Invite service offline" and only shows invites recorded in that visitor's own browser. So the success path's "board updates after a second wallet mints" needs that service running first. Once it's up, a mint only counts after the service sees the wallet holds a HAM on chain.

    Checks I ran

    • Typecheck and build: both pass.
    • Unit tests: 10/10 pass, covering the game formulas from the contract spec and the invite logic.
    • ABI hashes: both contract ABIs match the hashes in the deployment record.
    • Browser test: 34/34 checks pass at 390 and 1440 wide, with live Sepolia reads. That covers banner, mint button on the first screen, connect sheet, screen switching, handle validation, invite link, offline board, no overflow and no console errors.
    • Design probe: 15/16. I fixed text clipping at 320 wide. The one remaining flag is "card inside card", which is the console bezel with an inset screen that the brief asks for, so I kept it.

    Other limitations

    • The share image uses a relative URL, so some link previews won't show it until the site has a final address.
    • The wallet sheet doesn't keep Tab focus inside it.
    • No screen-reader pass was done, and sound was only checked in code.

Full results are in docs/SITE-VALIDATION.md. Nothing was published or deployed; the network hosts the committed dist/.

    • High — bug: A fulfilled race crashes the Race page at 390px and 1440px.
    • High — bug: A populated invite board expands the page to 398px at both phone widths.
    • High — bug: Failed log queries make HAM IDs above 600 disappear.
    • High — bug: Wallets without a HAM cannot request a permissionless round.
    • High — bug: Active rounds become inaccessible after six newer rounds.
    • Medium — accessibility: Tab escapes the open wallet dialog into obscured controls.

Chromium checks covered 320, 390 and 1440px. Transaction wiring was inspected and populated states used controlled ABI fixtures; no transactions were signed. WebKit validation could not run.

“Met” below means the implementation is present and reviewed. The intentional probe exception follows the brief’s requirement for a “console bezel” and “screen inset.”

    • highbug: a fulfilled race crashes the Race screen and hides settlementweb/src/chain.ts:86

Now: matchInfo returns one named Race tuple, but readRounds treats the decoded object as a positional array. Every match is constructed with undefined racers, scores, winner and settled fields.

Change to: read the named a, b, scoreA, scoreB, winner and settled properties from the decoded Race object, then retain the existing round controls.

Why: the brief requires visitors to fulfill rounds and settle random matches; the first fulfilled race makes those controls unusable.

At 390px or 1440px, use the committed abi/MatchQueue.json and viem 2.57.14 to encodeFunctionResult and decodeFunctionResult for matchInfo with {roundId:1,a:{tokenId:1,player:0x1111111111111111111111111111111111111111,stamina:10,weight:1},b:{tokenId:2,player:0x2222222222222222222222222222222222222222,stamina:10,weight:1},scoreA:5,scoreB:4,winner:1,settled:false}.

Decoding returns an object with .a and .b; numeric index [1] is undefined. readRounds assigns a:undefined and b:undefined, while App.tsx:511 dereferences m.a.tokenId.

Expected: the fulfilled match and its Settle control render.

Browser confirmation: serve dist/ and intercept only the configured Sepolia read RPCs with ABI-encoded roundCount=1, roundInfo(1)=(band 0, entropy block 998, status Fulfilled, count 2), roundMatchIds(1)=[1] and the matchInfo fixture above.

Open #/race without connecting a wallet.

Chromium at both 390x844 and 1440x844 raises Cannot read properties of undefined (reading tokenId); document.body.innerText becomes empty.

No signing or transactions are involved.

    • highbug: a populated invite board overflows both phone widthsweb/src/styles.css:236

Now: the four-column board uses intrinsic table sizing; its pixel-font headings impose a 354px minimum width inside much narrower phone panels. The table also expands adjacent board text beyond the console.

Change to: give .board table-layout: fixed with width: 100%, and allow both th and td text to wrap with overflow-wrap: anywhere; retain all columns and readable handle/wallet values without clipping.

Why: the brief requires a mobile-friendly invite leaderboard, and the review bar forbids horizontal scrolling at 320px and 390px.

Chromium at 320x844 and 390x844: in a fresh origin, set localStorage[ham.attributions] to three records with handle abcdefghijklmno, stage minted, timestamp at=1, and wallets 0x1111111111111111111111111111111111111111, 0x2222222222222222222222222222222222222222, 0x3333333333333333333333333333333333333333, then open #/invite with the shipped unset inviteApi.

These are valid stored values from the existing recordLocal path.

The rendered .board is 354px wide with right edge x=398; documentElement.scrollWidth=398 at clientWidth=320 and also at clientWidth=390.

The screenshot confirms the Wallets header and board notices extending beyond the bezel.

Expected: the board stays within the screen without page-wide horizontal scroll at either width.

    • highbug: ownership fallback makes HAM IDs above 600 disappearweb/src/chain.ts:57

Now: when the deployment-to-latest Transfer log query fails, readOwned silently scans only IDs 1 through 600. Owners of IDs 601 through 9999 are shown as owning no HAM, which removes their care and queue controls.

Change to: retrieve Transfer logs in bounded block ranges with retries, or scan the full minted ID range in bounded batches; show a read error rather than presenting a partial search as an authoritative empty balance.

Why: the brief requires owned token IDs and care/queue access for the full 9999-pet supply.

Chromium at 390x844: serve dist/ and provide an EIP-1193 read-only test wallet at 0x1111111111111111111111111111111111111111 on Sepolia.

Use ABI-encoded RPC fixtures with totalSupply=601, freeMinted(wallet)=true, ownerOf(601)=wallet, all earlier ownerOf calls returning 0x2222222222222222222222222222222222222222, and eth_getLogs returning JSON-RPC error -32005 (block range exceeds limit) on each configured endpoint.

      Connect the test wallet.

Measured: exactly 600 ownerOf calls, no hamster call, Your HAM = 0, and the Care HUD says Mint a HAM while Mint is disabled as already minted.

Expected: HAM #601 is selectable with its care controls, or an explicit ownership-read failure is shown.

      No transactions are sent.

    • highbug: a wallet without a HAM cannot request a public roundweb/src/App.tsx:407

Now: the queue inspection and Request round control exist only in the selected-pet branch. A connected Sepolia wallet holding no HAM is told to mint or pick one and cannot advance a band, even though requestRound is permissionless.

Change to: make the existing band/queue view and Request round action available independently of HAM ownership, with a band selector for visitors without a selected pet; keep Enqueue and Leave tied to the owned pet.

Why: the brief explicitly says anyone can requestRound when ready, including visitors who do not hold an NFT.

Chromium at 390x844: connect an EIP-1193 read-only test wallet 0x1111111111111111111111111111111111111111 on Sepolia with no Transfer logs or owned tokens.

Provide mintOpen=true, the correct bound MatchQueue, totalSupply=2, and a valid band 0 with eligibleCount(0)=2 and two entries owned by other wallets, joined at block 980 with current block 1000.

      Open #/race.

Actual: the page says Mint or pick a HAM on the Play screen first and contains no band selector, queue list or Request round button; readBand is never loaded without a pet.

Expected: this connected visitor can inspect band 0 and request its ready round without minting a HAM.

      No transactions are sent.

    • highbug: active rounds become unreachable after six newer roundsweb/src/chain.ts:77

Now: readRounds fetches only the latest six global round IDs. Show more rounds expands the view from three to those same six; neither the selected HAM nor its activeToken loads its earlier active round. A pet can remain Matched with no control to fulfill or expire its round.

Change to: paginate the existing rounds list beyond the latest six, or resolve and retain the selected HAM’s active round independently of the recent-round limit. Keep its fulfillment, expiry and settlement controls reachable until it is released.

Why: the required queue-to-completed-match flow must remain usable when other bands create newer rounds; the contracts impose no six-round recovery limit.

Chromium at 390x844, using the exported dist/ and ABI-encoded read fixtures: current block=1000, totalSupply=14, roundCount=7, and rounds 1 through 7 Pending with entropyBlock=998, two distinct racers each, and distinct bands 0 through 6.

Connect read-only test wallet 0x1111111111111111111111111111111111111111, which owns HAM #1 with activity=Matched, stamina=10, and activeToken(wallet)=1; this HAM belongs to round 1.

Open #/race and activate Show more rounds.

Measured roundInfo requests are exactly [7,6,5,4,3,2]; Round 1 is absent from the DOM.

The selected HAM is labeled Matched, Enqueue is disabled, and only the other six rounds have fulfillment controls.

Expected: round 1 remains accessible for fulfillment now and expiry after its window, so HAM #1 can recover without an external contract interface.

      No transactions are sent.

    • mediumaccessibility: keyboard focus escapes the open wallet dialogweb/src/wallet/ConnectSheet.tsx:38

Now: opening the aria-modal wallet dialog focuses Close, but its key handler handles only Escape. Tab can move into the obscured game while the modal remains open.

Change to: contain Tab and Shift+Tab within the sheet and make background game controls inert while it is open; keep Escape and return focus to Connect.

Why: keyboard visitors must be able to choose a wallet without landing on hidden controls behind a modal.

Chromium, 390x844, unconnected browser with no extensions: open the exported site, activate Connect, then press Tab three times.

Measured active elements are Close (initial), Browser wallet, Coinbase Wallet, then Play; Play.closest([role=dialog]) is null although the dialog remains visible.

Further Tab presses reach Race, Invite and Help behind the overlay.

Expected: Tab after the last wallet row cycles to Close inside the dialog.

Fulfilled race crashesBoth racers and scores render at 390/1440px; settlement simulation reaches the rejecting test wallet.
Invite board overflowsDocument widths remain exactly 320/390px; all four columns remain visible.
Owned IDs above 600 disappearHAM #601 and #9999 reach the Care HUD. Incomplete reads show an error and recover.
Non-owner cannot request roundsA wallet without HAM can inspect bands and request an eligible round.
Older active round unreachableTwo loads reach round 1 behind twelve newer rounds; fulfilment and expiry remain available.
Wallet-dialog focus escapesNine Tab stops remain inside; Shift+Tab, Escape, background inertness and focus restoration pass.

The idea is coherent: a Sepolia hamster game presented inside a pocket-console bezel with a mint-green pixel screen. The probe’s sole failure flags that nested bezel, explicitly required by the brief.

“Met” below refers to implementation and reviewed behavior; no mined gameplay is claimed.
