FOLLOW-UP 5: Manual pool mode (no eth_getLogs)

Add a "Manual" mode where the user pastes two V3 pool contract addresses. The page reads token addresses, fees, and prices directly from the pool contracts via eth_call only. No eth_getLogs. No batch. No rate limits.

  1. NEW UI:

    • Add a "Mode" field at the top: "Auto-scan" (existing) / "Manual" (new). Default: Auto-scan.
    • When Mode = Manual:
      • Hide: Token A, Token B, Protocol, Window fields
      • Show: "Pool A" field and "Pool B" field
      • Each accepts a 42-char V3 pool contract address (0x + 40 hex)
      • A "READ PRICES" button (replaces WATCH PAIR in manual mode)
      • Polls every 30s: 6 eth_calls total (3 per pool × 2 pools). That's it.
  2. WHAT THE PAGE READS FROM EACH POOL (eth_call only): For each pool address, call:

    • pool.token0() → address ABI: function token0() view returns (address)
    • pool.token1() → address ABI: function token1() view returns (address)
    • pool.fee() → uint24 ABI: function fee() view returns (uint24)
    • pool.slot0() → (uint160 sqrtPriceX96, int24 tick, uint24 protocolFee, uint24 lpFee, uint8 tickSpacing, bool unlocked) ABI: function slot0() view returns (uint160 sqrtPriceX96, int24 tick, uint24 protocolFee, uint24 lpFee, uint8 tickSpacing, bool unlocked)

    From these, the page knows:

    • The two tokens in the pair (token0, token1)
    • The fee tier (e.g., 100 = 0.01%, 500 = 0.05%, 3000 = 0.30%, 10000 = 1.00%)
    • The current price: 1.0001^tick (scaled by token decimals)
    • Whether the pool has liquidity (sqrtPriceX96 > 0)
  3. VALIDATION:

    • Pool A and Pool B must have the same token0 and token1 (same pair, same order). If they don't match, show error: "Pools are different pairs"
    • Both pools must have sqrtPriceX96 > 0. If not, show: "Pool has no liquidity"
    • If any eth_call reverts, show: "Invalid pool address"
    • If the address is not 42 chars, show: "Enter a 42-char V3 pool address"
  4. SPREAD DISPLAY (manual mode):

    • Single row: Pool A (fee, price) | Pool B (fee, price) | Spread% | Fee Cost% | Net% | Verdict
    • Pool A = lower price (buy), Pool B = higher price (sell). Auto-swap labels if needed.
    • Spread% = (high - low) / low × 100
    • Fee Cost% = (feeA + feeB) / 10000
    • Net% = Spread% - Fee Cost%
    • GREEN when Net% > threshold (existing threshold field, default 0.5%)
    • Show: "Last read: Xs ago"
    • Show token symbols (read via symbol() on token0/token1 on first read, cached after)
    • Show pool addresses (truncated) so user can verify
  5. EXECUTION (unchanged from existing code):

    • Click the spread row → same quote → dry run → send flow as existing V3+V3 path
    • Token pair for execution: token0/token1 read from the pools (not user-entered)
    • Approvals: existing V3 Router flow (ERC20.approve to SwapRouter02)
    • The pool addresses come from the user's Pool A / Pool B fields
    • V3 SwapRouter02: 0xcaf681a66d020601342297493863e78c959e5cb2
    • V3 Factory: 0x1f7d7550b1b028f7571e69a784071f0205fd2efa
  6. RPC USAGE (manual mode):

    • 6 eth_calls per 30s poll (token0 + token1 + fee + slot0 × 2 pools)
    • Plus 2 eth_calls for symbol() on first read only (cached after)
    • 1 eth_call for quote (on demand, existing V3 quote mechanism)
    • 1 eth_call for dry run (on demand)
    • NO eth_getLogs. NO batch. NO eth_getBlockByNumber.
    • Total: 6-8 requests per 30 seconds. Works on ANY free RPC including Chainstack free tier.
  7. KEEP UNCHANGED:

    • Auto-scan mode (all existing behavior when Mode = Auto-scan)
    • V4 encoder, V3 execution, Permit2, wallet transfer
    • Activity log, button locking, 20-min deadline
    • All existing tests continue to pass
    • The existing V3 quote mechanism (creation-call callback)
  8. VERIFICATION:

    • Manual mode with two V3 pools for the same pair: should show prices, fees, spread
    • Manual mode with two pools for DIFFERENT pairs: should show "Pools are different pairs"
    • Manual mode with an invalid address: should show "Invalid pool address"
    • Manual mode with a 66-char V4 poolId: should show "Enter a 42-char V3 pool address"
    • Network tab confirms: only eth_call requests, no eth_getLogs
    • 6 eth_calls per poll confirmed

  • Read token0() and token1() from both (should match: PONS and WETH)
  • Read fee() from both (100 and 3000)
  • Read slot0() from both (tick, price ~$0.18)
  • Show: PONS/WETH, ~$0.18 price on both, ~1% spread, ~0.31% fee cost, ~0.7% net, GREEN
  • 6 eth_calls per poll, no eth_getLogs

Manual pool mode is implemented, tested and documented. All checks pass locally.

    What was built

    • Mode field in index.html with Auto-scan (default, unchanged) and Manual. Manual hides Token A/B, Protocol and Window, shows Pool A / Pool B fields prefilled with the brief's two pools, and a READ PRICES button. Switching modes stops the other mode's polling, so no eth_getLogs is sent while Manual is selected.
    • Manual reader in js/v4-arb-encoder.js: every 30 s it reads token0, token1, fee and slot0 of each pool with plain sequential eth_calls (8 per poll, never a batch), plus symbol and decimals of the two tokens once, cached. Errors use the brief's exact messages: "Enter a 42-char V3 pool address" (checked before any request, so a 66-char V4 poolId sends nothing), "Invalid pool address" on any revert or empty reply, "Pools are different pairs", "Pool has no liquidity". RPC failures back off 60 s and are never blamed on the address.
    • Spread row: Pool A (fee, price, truncated address) | Pool B | Spread% | Fee Cost% | Net% | Verdict, lower price auto-labelled as the buy pool, GREEN above the existing threshold, with "Last read: Xs ago" and full pool addresses under the table.
    • Execution reuses the existing V3+V3 path unchanged (creation-call quote, APPROVE V3 ROUTER, dry run, send, 20-minute deadline). The pair comes from the pools' token0/token1; balances and transfer buttons follow those tokens.
    • Solidity reference src/V3ManualPool.sol with the same reads and checks, tested in test/V3ManualPool.t.sol against pool-shaped mocks.

Two findings about the brief's test vectors, both documented in the README. On chain, Pool A 0x10cc…26ba returns a fee of 10000 (1.00%), not 0.01%, so the pair shows a 1.30% fee cost and a RED verdict. The factory's real 0.01% WETH/PONS pool is 0x0f5F5bCC08cAe61d19c9a2d2594C252f1Baddae6. Both pools also answer the canonical seven-word V3 slot0(), not the six-output ABI in the brief, so the decoder reads only sqrtPriceX96 and tick and accepts either layout. The brief's "6 eth_calls" count is off by its own arithmetic (4 reads × 2 pools = 8), which is inside its stated 6 to 8 range.

    Checks

    CheckResult
forge build, forge test with the verifier's fuzz seed91 passed
    forge fmt --checkclean
node --test js/test/*.test.js184 passed (10 new manual cases, 3 new page cases)
Live read-only run of scripts/verify-manual-live.js12 eth_calls, no logs or batch; both error paths reproduced

No protected files were touched and nothing was sent on chain. The working tree is left uncommitted for the harness to pick up.
