Build "Squeeklings": the web app for an on-chain dynamic NFT that grows with Squeektoshi, Squeekchain's real hamster. The smart contracts are ALREADY deployed and source-verified on Ethereum Sepolia. This job is the frontend only: a static site, no backend, no API keys, no fake data.

CONTRACT (Ethereum Sepolia, chainId 11155111)

ABI (human-readable, ethers v6):

  • function hatch() returns (uint256)
  • function feed(uint256 id)
  • function hatchedBy(address) view returns (uint256) // 0 = none
  • function hamster() view returns (bool live, uint256 round, uint256 height, uint256 work, uint256 progress)
  • function info(uint256 id) view returns (tuple(uint256 id, address owner, uint8 stage, string stageName, uint8 mood, string moodName, uint256 blocksWitnessed, uint256 nextStageAt, uint256 hatchHeight, uint256 hatchRound, uint256 hatchTime, uint256 lastFedTime, uint256 nextFeedAt, uint256 feeds, uint256 streak, uint256 bestStreak, string fur, string pattern, string cheeks, bool moonlit, bool holder))
  • function svgOf(uint256 id) view returns (string) // raw SVG
  • function previewSvg(uint256 id, uint256 blocks) view returns (string)
  • function totalSupply() view returns (uint256)
  • function tokenByIndex(uint256 index) view returns (uint256)
  • function tokenURI(uint256 id) view returns (string)
  • event Hatched(uint256 indexed id, address indexed owner, uint256 hatchHeight, uint256 hatchRound)
  • event Fed(uint256 indexed id, address indexed by, uint256 streak, uint256 feeds, uint256 height) Show these reverts as friendly messages: "Squeeklings: one per wallet", "Squeeklings: still full" (show a countdown to nextFeedAt), "Squeeklings: not your squeekling", "Squeeklings: hamster offline".

RULES (show as short cards, never long paragraphs)

  • Hatch: free, 1 per wallet, only Sepolia test gas.
  • Grows with the wheel: growth = Squeek blocks mined since hatching, read live from SqueekCore on-chain. Egg, Pinkie at 20 blocks, Pup at 150, Runner at 500, Wheel Legend at 1500.
  • Feed every 12h. Feeding again within 48h keeps the streak. 1 feed = sunflower seed, 3 = scarf (bow while Pinkie), 7 = crown.
  • Moods: Excited = new blocks since your last feed. Hungry = not fed for 48h. Content = fed and calm.
  • Holding a Squeek NFT gives a gold earring.
  • Art and metadata are 100% on-chain SVG.

SECTIONS

  1. Header: "Squeeklings" logo, live hamster pill, Connect wallet button. Pill: "Squeektoshi is running" with RPM when https://api.squeekchain.com/v1/status has measurement.coreStatus = "ACTIVE" (rpm = measurement.rpmMilli / 1000), otherwise "Squeektoshi is napping". Always show the on-chain Squeek block height and round from hamster(). If the API fails, show only the on-chain values.
  2. Hero: "A tiny on-chain hamster that grows every time Squeektoshi runs." Main button: Hatch (connect, switch to Sepolia, call hatch()). If hatchedBy(account) > 0, show "Visit my Squeekling" instead.
  3. My Squeekling: big SVG from svgOf(id), name, stage with a progress bar (blocksWitnessed vs nextStageAt), mood chip, hatch block, feeds, streak and best streak. Feed button with a live countdown. Share on X button with prefilled text: "My Squeekling #ID is a {stage} after {n} Squeek blocks. It grows with @squeekchain's real hamster" plus the site URL.
  4. Time machine: slider from 0 to 2000 blocks calling previewSvg(id, blocks), debounced, with ticks at 20, 150, 500 and 1500. Visitors without a Squeekling see token #1.
  5. Nursery: gallery of every Squeekling (totalSupply + tokenByIndex, newest first, 24 per page, "load more"). Each card shows the SVG, stage and blocks. Stage filter chips. Clicking a card opens a detail modal using info().
  6. How it works: the rules as 4 to 6 icon cards plus a stage ladder.
  7. Footer: contract, verified source and explorer links. Squeekchain links: https://squeekchain.com and https://squeek.win. Tip to get free Sepolia ETH from a faucet. "Made by @0xwuy for Squeekchain Genesis".

TECH

  • Static site, ethers v6 from a CDN with a pinned version. Wallets: EIP-6963 discovery with window.ethereum fallback (Rabby, MetaMask, etc.). On the wrong network call wallet_switchEthereumChain 0xaa36a7; if that fails, call wallet_addEthereumChain (publicnode RPC, SepoliaETH, https://sepolia.etherscan.io).
  • svgOf and previewSvg are heavy view calls: cache by id and block height, at most 4 concurrent calls, retry on the next RPC.
  • Render SVG via , never innerHTML. The SMIL animations still play there.
  • Poll hamster() every 30 seconds. After a hatch or feed tx, show a pending state with the tx link, then refresh.
  • Responsive from 360px, accessible buttons. Use the palette from the art: cream #FFF1DE, night indigo #1F1D3D, gold #F5C542. Rounded cards, playful but clean, short copy. No lorem ipsum, no placeholder or mock data: everything comes from the chain or the Squeekchain API.

    1. Medium — bug: growth label overstates blocks remaining. At 390×844, opening a detail modal with 149 witnessed blocks and a 150-block threshold shows “150 to next stage” beside a 99.33% progress bar. Change the label to “Next stage at 150 blocks” to describe the threshold accurately. Source: components.tsx:165.

    2. Medium — bug: failed reads masquerade as an empty collection. At 390×844, return HTTP 503 from all three RPCs, wait for the read error, then visit the time machine. Its disabled preview says the first Squeekling must hatch and continues displaying “Reading Sepolia…”. Reserve that message for confirmed zero supply; show “Preview unavailable. Try again above.” and “Sepolia unavailable” after failure. Source: App.tsx:770.

Chromium and WebKit passed the wallet prompt, preview slider, and nursery modal checks. Live reads used the supplied services through a transport relay. Controlled responses covered pagination, network switching, and failure states. No real wallet signatures or transactions were submitted.

The visual idea is an on-chain hamster care app presented as a warm, tilted portrait keepsake.

The audit below marks implementation requirements as met using browser observations or source inspection. Transaction confirmation remains untested with a real wallet.

    • mediumbug: the growth label reports the stage threshold as blocks remainingsrc/components.tsx:165

Now: Progress labels the absolute nextStageAt threshold as “to next stage”. A Pinkie with 149 witnessed blocks and a threshold of 150 is shown “150 to next stage”, although only one block remains. This shared component appears in My Squeekling and the nursery detail modal.

Change to: Replace the non-complete label with Next stage at ${format(ling.nextStageAt)} blocks, retaining the existing progress calculation.

Why: The growth readout should explain the stage boundary accurately; the current wording contradicts its nearly full progress bar.

At 390×844, serve the existing dist export.

In a browser test, intercept the info(1) eth_call response and ABI-encode a valid LingView with stage=1, stageName="Pinkie", blocksWitnessed=149 and nextStageAt=150, leaving the other fields valid.

      Open nursery card #1.

Actual: the modal simultaneously renders “149 Squeek blocks”, “150 to next stage”, and a progressbar with aria-valuenow=149 and aria-valuemax=150 (99.33% filled).

Expected: “Next stage at 150 blocks” (or one remaining block), rather than claiming 150 blocks remain.

The identical label is used by Companion.

    • mediumbug: the time machine treats failed supply reads as an empty collectionsrc/App.tsx:770

Now: When totalSupply cannot be read, App passes available=false, exactly as it does for a confirmed zero supply. The time machine then says “The time machine opens when the first Squeekling hatches” and continues showing “Reading Sepolia…” even after all RPC retries have failed. The collection already contains token #1; a failed read establishes neither an empty collection nor continued loading.

Change to: Pass the existing supply/read-error state into TimeMachine. Reserve the first-hatch message for supply === 0; on a settled read failure show “Preview unavailable. Try again above.” in the note and “Sepolia unavailable” in the art area. Retain the existing retry action.

Why: Loading, empty and failure states must state only what the app knows and explain why the preview is disabled.

At 390×844, load the existing dist export with the ethers module available.

Make each eth_call to publicnode, 1rpc and Tenderly return HTTP 503 (browser request interception suffices), leaving the status API available.

Wait for the top-level “Sepolia is taking a break.

Check your connection and try again.” error, then scroll to #time-machine.

Actual: the range and four milestone buttons are disabled; the note says “The time machine opens when the first Squeekling hatches” and the art area says “Reading Sepolia…”.

Expected: an unavailable/retry state because totalSupply is still null, with the first-hatch message shown only after a successful totalSupply() === 0 response.

A separate live read in this review returned totalSupply() === 1.
