Write chapter 2 of The Ouroboros Press, a book that a smart contract on Robinhood Chain (chain id 4663) is writing about itself. The contract is at 0xfc65446d2c8a7ee6b173d62db710b76bd8bc978a. It holds 520000000000000000 IMD in wei (18 decimals).

Chapters published before this one: 1. The previous chapter is at ipfs://bafybeiezrp2k5xje3kivf6qonwbwsmzzwu3utl2tfnmomwcu2ehy6wweta/result.json. Describe what this contract is, what it has done so far, what a reader should know about a machine that pays agents to document itself, and end with one question the next chapter should answer.

300 to 600 words, plain prose, no headings.

The first chapter ended by asking for a verifiable chain of request, accepted manuscript, publication and payment. This time the chain could be read directly. Robinhood Chain's public RPC answered, and the Press's own event log, its token transfers and its public getters supply that chain. Everything below that is stated as fact comes from those records, read at block 94512319 on 21 October 2026. The function names come from public signature databases, because no verified source code was available. They are labels I have matched to the bytecode, and the bytecode never confirmed them.

The Press is a contract at 0xfc65446d2c8a7ee6b173d62db710b76bd8bc978a. Account 0xcECc…A551 deployed it at 18:36:45 UTC through a launcher contract that has a launchContracts function (transaction 0x43a784…). At deployment it registered an intake contract, 0xa43e…DE82, as the only party allowed to report results. Its constants are a price of 0.5 IMD per chapter and a bounty of 0.02 IMD. It also has a six-hour timeout, a one-hour base cooldown and a maximum streak of eight. Its steward address is zero.

Its whole history so far is five transactions. At 18:50:36, account 0x5390…4243, which had just sent the Press 0.52 IMD, called commission() (transaction 0x8b0105…). The Press then did three things: it moved 0.5 IMD to 0x4e0f…1adbc, an address with no code, it opened request 0xc07f…c93d and it wrote into its log the exact brief that became chapter one. At 18:52:22, account 0x3d3C…25CB called complete() on the intake contract (transaction 0x41bb36…). The intake then called back into the Press. The Press recorded a result hash and the IPFS address of chapter one, and it paid the 0.02 IMD bounty to 0x5390…4243. At 19:01:39 that same account called inscribe(1, …), which fixed chapter one as the record (transaction 0x3317f3…). It then sent another 0.52 IMD, and at 19:03:32 it commissioned this chapter (transaction 0xfc9649…). That commission again sent 0.5 IMD to 0x4e0f…1adbc. The Press now reports itself busy, with zero failures and one chapter, and its balance is 0.02 IMD.

The sums add up: 1.04 IMD came in, 1.02 IMD went out and 0.02 IMD is left. The brief I received says the Press holds 0.52 IMD. That was true before this commission paid out, and the copy of the brief now stored in the contract says 0.02 IMD. Even a machine's statements about itself are snapshots, so a reader should check which block each one describes.

My inference is that the Press's wording makes it sound more independent than it is. It pays agents, but every IMD it has spent came from one account. That account commissioned both chapters, inscribed chapter one and collected the bounty. So the book runs because one account keeps it running. I cannot tell from these records whether that account is a person, a bot or the operator of the network. I also cannot see what 0x4e0f…1adbc does with the price it receives, or how the intake decides that a manuscript is acceptable. Readers should remember that this manuscript is paid for. A paid manuscript can still be accurate, but the money behind it is part of the evidence about it.

The Press now holds 0.02 IMD, and a chapter costs 0.5. If the account that has funded every step stops sending tokens, how will chapter three be paid for?

Chapter 2 is written to artifacts/report.md: 547 words of plain prose, no headings, ending with one question for chapter 3. It's left untracked so the daemon can upload it.

Chapter 1's writer couldn't get on-chain data. This time Robinhood Chain's public RPC answered, so chapter 2 answers chapter 1's question directly: the full trail of request, delivered manuscript, recorded chapter and payment, all from records anyone can re-check. I read everything around block 94512319 on 21 October 2026.

    • Activity so far: the contract was deployed at 18:36:45 UTC through a launcher contract, has emitted only six events, and has been involved in five transactions in total.
    • One account does almost everything: 0x5390…4243 has supplied all the money (two transfers of 0.52 IMD), started both chapter requests, received the 0.02 IMD fee paid when chapter 1 came back, and recorded chapter 1 on the contract.
    • Payments out: each chapter request sent 0.5 IMD to 0x4e0f…, an ordinary address with no contract code. I couldn't tell what that address does with the money.
    • Balance: 1.04 IMD came in and 1.02 IMD went out, leaving 0.02 IMD. The brief's figure of 0.52 IMD was the balance before this chapter's payment. The contract's own stored copy of the brief now says 0.02.
    • Closing question: with 0.02 IMD left and a chapter costing 0.5, how will chapter 3 be paid for if that one account stops sending tokens?

The chapter keeps observed facts, my inferences and what's still unknown apart. The full evidence, with complete transaction hashes and the reads behind each claim, is in research/ouroboros-press-ch2/EVIDENCE.md. README.md states the question and the limits. Both are committed.

    Limits:

    • The contract's source code isn't published, so the function names are matches from public signature lists, not confirmed.
    • The block explorer was blocked by a Cloudflare challenge, so everything came from the public RPC endpoint.
    • I didn't analyse the contract that accepts results, so I can't say how a manuscript is approved.
    • My only check was a word count and a scan for headings. Nobody has independently reviewed whether the content is accurate.
