Build CAT WARS exactly as specified in https://github.com/dew1645/cat-wars-spec (read SPEC.md first; it is the source of truth and wins over this text).

On-chain 1v1 cat-fight betting game in native ETH: players bet on RED or BLUE cat, the fight is simulated on-chain from a Chainlink VRF v2.5 random word (direct funding, paid in native ETH), winners split the pot pro-rata minus a per-round snapshotted rake (default 5%, max 10%).

Hard rules:

  • Copy reference/src/CatWarsEngine.sol VERBATIM and keep reference/test/CatWarsEngine.t.sol passing 500/500 vectors.
  • constructor(address vrfWrapper, address owner_), zero post-deploy setup. Sepolia wrapper 0x195f15F2d49d693cE265b4fB0fdDbE15b1850Cc1.
  • Player stakes never pay for VRF; owner can never move player ETH; refunds on one-sided rounds and timeouts; anyone can requestResult/settle/claimFor.
  • All tests in SPEC.md section 3 must pass, incl. solvency invariant fuzz.
  • Keeper script (SPEC.md section 5) and website (SPEC.md section 4) using art/catart.js portraits and engine/engine.js fight replay; replay seed = bytes32(randomWord) big-endian.
  • No fake bots or fake data. Footer: "Experimental game. Only play where online wagering is legal for you. 18+."

  2. ManifestAgent #17261 file changed

Done. I wrote launch.json for the accepted CAT WARS tree and verified it.

    What the manifest contains

    • Token: LaunchToken, name "CAT WARS", symbol "MEOW", 18 decimals, as src/LaunchToken.sol sets them.
    • One application contract, CatWars, with constructor arguments in declaration order: the requester-specified Sepolia Chainlink VRF wrapper address (lowercased) and $owner for the owner parameter. The owner also becomes initial treasury and keeper inside the constructor.
    • CatWarsEngine is an internal library compiled into CatWars. The built artifact has no link placeholders, so it is correctly omitted from the contracts list.
    • Pool: native ETH zero address, fee 12500, tickSpacing 60, initialPrice 79228162514264337593543950336, exactly as the launch facts give them.
    • Notes of 745 characters explaining the constructor inputs and the engine library.

    Verification

    • The manifest's constructor args match the exported docs/abi/CatWars.json constructor (vrfWrapper address, owner_ address).
    • Only the schema's five top-level keys are present, no chainId or supply fields.
    • forge build succeeds and forge test passes all 39 tests across 6 suites, including the Deployment test that deploys the same creation code with these arguments on an empty chain.
    • git status shows launch.json as the only new or changed file.

  3. Audit mathAgent #1497found 1 info

The review is complete and the findings file is written. Here is the recap.

Outcome: no arithmetic, boundary or numerical-gap defect found in the application code. The findings file at .imd-findings.json holds one informational finding and a coverage row for all 23 entry points plus four invariants.

What I verified in my area (Math Precision, Boundary, Numerical Gap):

    • Payout and rake math uses Math.mulDiv with round-down, no overflow, no underflow (rake is capped at 10% of the pool), and the winning-side divisor is always non-zero because a round can only reach Requested when both sides hold stakes.
    • Time boundaries are consistent. Betting rejects exactly at lockAt, requesting accepts exactly at lockAt, and both public timeouts are strict as the spec requires.
    • The VRF payment path never spends player stakes. The caller's value is checked against the quote, re-checked against the actual price paid, and the remainder is refunded or credited.
    • The engine, its vector test and vectors.json are byte-identical to the reference in the spec repository, and all 500 vectors pass. The static-analysis leads on the engine are its intended integer steps and must not be changed.
    • The exported docs/abi/CatWars.json is set-equal to the compiled ABI.
    • The full suite passes: 39 tests including the two stateful solvency invariants.

The one informational finding: because rake is charged on the whole pot, a winning side receives less than it staked whenever the losing side is smaller than the rake. With the maximum 10% rake, 100 ETH versus 1 ETH yields a 90.9 ETH payout to the 100 ETH winner. This follows the spec's formula exactly, so it is reported as an economic property for the requester, not as a defect.

Not reached: no launch.json exists yet, so the manifest row is marked unreached. The README's stated constructor order and pool values match the spec and the two-argument constructor.

    • infoRake is taken from the whole pot, so a winning side can receive less than it staked when the losing side is smallsrc/CatWars.sol:270

This is the formula SPEC.md 2.2 prescribes (stake * (pool - rake) / winningSideTotal) and the arithmetic is implemented exactly as specified with Math.mulDiv, no overflow and round-down. It is reported as an economic property, not a code defect: because rake = pool * rakeBps / 10_000 is charged on the entire pot (settle, line 191), whenever rake exceeds the losing side's total the winners' aggregate payout is below their aggregate stake.

At the maximum rake of 1000 bps this happens whenever losingTotal < pool / 10, i.e. whenever the losing side holds less than roughly 11.1% of the winning side. The frontend's payout multiplier (pool - rake)/sideTotal does expose this as a value below 1x, so bettors can see it before betting.

No fix is required to satisfy the specification; if the requester wants winners never to lose value, the design change would be to cap rake at the losing side's total (rake = min(pool * rakeBps / 10_000, losingTotal)), which is a scope decision for the requester, not something this review recommends silently applying.

Related, already documented in docs/ABI.md: with minBet lowered to 1 wei, a 1-wei winning stake rounds down to a zero payout and is marked claimed (verified: stake 1 wei on the winning side alongside 10 ether, 1 wei on the losing side, pendingPayout == 0 and claimFor sets claimed = true).

rakeBps = 1000 (owner setRakeBps(1000)), openRound(0,1); A bets 100 ether on the side the engine will declare winner for the fulfilled word, B bets 1 ether on the other side; requestResult, fulfill, settle.

Observed: rake = 10.1 ether, pendingPayout(A) = 90.9 ether, i.e. the winner receives 9.1 ether less than the 100 ether staked.

Expected per spec formula: exactly 90.9 ether (matches), so the code follows the specification; the observation is that 'winning' is net-negative for the winning side in this pool shape.

  4. Audit flowAgent #1763found 1 info

The review is complete. Findings and coverage are written to .imd-findings.json, and the working tree has no modified tracked files.

Outcome: no reproducible defect in the contracts. The CatWars control flow holds under the Execution Trace, Periphery and First Principles checks. One informational, conditional item is recorded for the manifest reviewer.

    What I verified

    • Every state transition in CatWars was traced from entry to final state: open, bet, request, callback, settle, the three cancel branches, the three claim paths and withdraw. Guards, checks-effects-interactions ordering, the 50k-gas payout path with credit fallback, and the status-gated callback all behave as the spec requires.
    • Stakes never fund VRF. The request path sets status before the external call, re-checks the wrapper's second quote against the caller's payment, rejects duplicate request IDs, and refunds or credits excess. Wrapper failure rolls back atomically.
    • The engine library and its vector test are byte-identical to the upstream spec commit. I fetched the three reference files from GitHub and matched their SHA-256 hashes, so the engine cannot revert for any seed and settlement cannot be bricked. The slither leads on that file are intentional verbatim arithmetic.
    • The vendored Chainlink base differs from upstream only by lazy LINK resolution. The native request helper and the wrapper-authenticated callback are logically unchanged.
    • The full Foundry suite passes, including the stateful solvency invariant. The ABI export check and all 17 keeper tests pass. The keeper quotes the VRF price at the same explicit gas price it submits with, which is the correct handling of Chainlink's tx.gasprice dependency.

    The one recorded item (info)

The constructor accepts any nonzero wrapper address with no code check, which the launch's empty-chain rule requires. If launch.json puts anything other than the live VRF v2.5 wrapper of the actual launch chain in the first constructor argument, every two-sided round reverts at request time and can only be refunded after the one-hour timeout, so no fight ever settles. I reproduced this with a scratch test on a chain without wrapper code. It is correct for the spec's Sepolia target; it becomes blocking only if the manifest targets another chain or address. No launch.json exists yet, so the coverage row for it is marked unreached.

    Not covered as findings

    • The README states the factory split as 10/88/2. The launch guidance I was given describes the requester's share as a choice defaulting to 80%. I could not verify which is right for this launch; it is a documentation point, not a contract defect.
    • Slither and Mythril did not run on my side. I used the provided static leads only as leads, and each one resolved as intended behavior.

    • infoTwo-sided rounds can never resolve if constructor arg 0 is not a live VRF v2.5 wrapper on the launch chain (manifest/chain dependency, not a code defect)src/CatWars.sol:303

The constructor intentionally performs no external call and accepts any nonzero wrapper address (required by the empty-chain launch check). The wrapper is immutable and there is no setter.

If the manifest's first CatWars constructor argument is not the Chainlink VRF v2.5 wrapper that actually has code on the chain the launch deploys to, every requestResult on a round with stakes on both sides reverts WrapperUnavailable (or, if the address has unrelated code, reverts inside calculateRequestPriceNative). The only exit for such a round is the public cancel after lockAt + 1 hour, so no fight can ever be settled and the game is permanently reduced to refund-only.

The README and keeper assume Sepolia (chainId 11155111) with wrapper 0x195f15f2d49d693ce265b4fb0fddbe15b1850cc1 (keeper/adapter.mjs even refuses any other wrapper). This is correct for the spec's Sepolia target; it becomes a blocking manifest finding if launch.json targets a different chain or writes a different address. No launch.json exists in the tree yet, so this is recorded for the manifest reviewer rather than as a source defect.

Nothing in the source can detect the mismatch at construction time without violating the launch's no-external-call constructor rule.

State: chain where address 0x195f15F2d49d693cE265b4fB0fdDbE15b1850Cc1 has no code (any chain other than Sepolia, or a local chain).

      Sequence: new CatWars(0x195f15F2d49d693cE265b4fB0fdDbE15b1850Cc1, owner); owner.openRound(0,1) -> id 0; A.placeBet{1 ether}(0,0); B.placeBet{1 ether}(0,1); warp to lockAt; anyone.requestResult{1 ether}(0).

Expected (on the intended chain): round becomes Requested and a VRF request is paid.

Actual: reverts WrapperUnavailable(); cancelRound(0) reverts CancellationNotAllowed() until lockAt + 1h + 1s, after which it cancels and bettors can only be refunded.

Verified with a scratch Foundry test (test/scratch/WrapperChain.t.sol, not kept) and by the existing test_emptyChainConstructorAndFirstUseValidation.

  5. Audit permissionsAgent #372found 1 low, 1 info

The review is complete. The findings file is written and the tree is otherwise untouched (git reports no changes because the findings file and build outputs are ignored).

Outcome: the permission model of CatWars matches the spec and I found no access-control bypass. Two findings are recorded, both low or informational.

    What I checked

    • Every role path: owner-only setters, pause and ownership transfer, owner/keeper round opening and early cancel, wrapper-only VRF callback, and the permissionless request, settle, cancel-on-timeout, claim and withdraw paths.
    • Paired surfaces for asymmetry: bet versus claim, request versus fulfill versus settle, open versus cancel, single claim versus batch claim, and every setter against its readers.
    • The vendored Chainlink base against the saved upstream copy. The only change is the documented lazy LINK lookup plus formatting.
    • ABI exports and the engine file hashes, which match the documentation. The full suite passes, 39 tests including the solvency invariants.

    Findings

    1. Low, src/CatWars.sol line 207. After 24 hours, anyone can cancel a Requested round with no reason. A late Chainlink fulfillment carries the random word in its calldata, so a losing bettor can read it, front-run with a cancel, and convert a loss into a refund while the winner loses the payout. This is what the spec asks for, so it is a design trust assumption rather than a bypass. I confirmed it with a scratch test and then removed the test.
    2. Info, README.md line 30. The README and deployment test name a literal wallet as the resolution of the launch owner. The launch facts I was given name no owner. The manifest must pass the owner reference string, not the literal, or every privileged role and the rake would go to a contributor-chosen wallet.

Coverage: all 23 listed entry points have a row, 22 hold and one carries finding 1, plus three invariant rows. Not reached: the keeper script internals and the frontend, and launch.json, which does not exist in this tree yet. The static-analysis leads were all traced and none reproduced as a defect.

    • lowPublic 24h timeout cancel lets an outcome-aware loser void a round whose VRF word is already in the mempoolsrc/CatWars.sol:207

Economics x asymmetry seam (Trust Gap guide, Seam 2). After requestedAt + 24h cancelRound(roundId) on a Requested round is permissionless and needs no reason, while fulfillRandomWords ignores a word that arrives after cancellation. The random word is visible in the pending wrapper fulfillment transaction before it is mined, so once the request is older than 24h any bettor can read words[0], run CatWarsEngine.simulate off-chain, and cancel only when they would lose.

The winning side loses its expected payout and receives a bare refund; the requester's VRF fee is also lost. Nothing in the contract distinguishes a loser's cancel from an honest liveness cancel. This follows SPEC.md 2.2 ('anyone if Requested and now > requestedAt + 24 hours') and REVIEW.md already says transaction order decides, so it is a design trust assumption rather than a permission bypass; the selective, outcome-aware nature of the race is not documented.

Mitigation that preserves the timeout: once a round is older than 24h, fulfillRandomWords could still accept the word unless the round is Cancelled, and cancellation of a Requested round could be gated on the keeper/owner or on a longer grace (e.g. refuse cancel while a fulfillment for that requestId is pending is not detectable on-chain, so the practical fix is documenting it and keeping the keeper's requestResult/settle loop healthy).

State: round 0 opened (cats 0,1), alice bets 1 ETH on side 0, bob bets 1 ETH on side 1, requestResult at lockAt, round Requested.

Chainlink is late: the fulfillment carrying word W (where simulate(0,1,bytes32(W)) returns winner 1, i.e. bob wins) enters the mempool at requestedAt + 24h + 1s. alice front-runs it with cancelRound(0): the check at line 207 passes (timestamp > requestedAt + 24h), status becomes Cancelled.

The fulfillment then executes, rawFulfillRandomWords -> fulfillRandomWords sees status != Requested and returns.

Expected: bob is paid stake*(pool-rake)/total1 = 1.9 ETH, alice gets nothing.

Actual: pendingPayout(0,alice)==1 ETH, pendingPayout(0,bob)==1 ETH, settle(0) reverts WrongStatus.

Verified with a scratch test (test/scratch/LateFulfillCancel.t.sol, passes on this code, demonstrating the behaviour).

    • infoREADME states a literal wallet as the resolution of $owner; the manifest must pass "$owner", not the literalREADME.md:30

The constructor's second argument becomes owner, keeper and treasury (src/CatWars.sol:108-111), i.e. every privileged role and the rake beneficiary. The README and test/Deployment.t.sol:19 hard-code 0xcb97...1a80 as the owner. The launch facts supplied to this review (.imd/reads/workflow.md) name no owner, so that literal cannot be checked here.

The source itself is correct (no msg.sender/tx.origin owner, factory cannot open rounds, Deployment.t.sol proves ownership is not assigned to the factory). The only risk is in the manifest step: a launch.json that copies the literal address instead of "$owner" would hand all admin powers and the rake to a wallet chosen by a contributor rather than to the launch's owner, and the reference forbids hard-coding a privileged wallet.

No launch.json exists in this tree yet, so there is nothing to fail; this is a note for the manifest author and the final reviewer.

      Failing manifest input: contracts[0] = {"contract":"CatWars","constructorArgs":["0x195f15f2d49d693ce265b4fb0fddbe15b1850cc1","0xcb97592071fa186ed4c8d00dcd1d50f4145c1a80"]}.

Expected: constructorArgs[1] is the literal string "$owner" so the factory resolves the launch's owner.

Actual effect of the literal: CatWars.owner(), keeper() and treasury() all equal 0xcb97...1a80 regardless of who owns the launch.

      Correct entry: ["0x195f15f2d49d693ce265b4fb0fddbe15b1850cc1","$owner"].

  6. Audit economicsAgent #154found 2 low, 1 info

The review is complete. The findings file is written and validated, and no tracked file was changed.

Outcome. CatWars' economics hold up under the Economic Security, Invariant and Flow Gap checklists. I found no critical, high or medium defect. Three substantiated items are in .imd-findings.json, each with an exact snippet, a concrete call sequence, and a scratch test that reproduces the sequence.

    • Low, src/CatWars.sol line 207. After the 24-hour request timeout, anyone may cancel a Requested round, and this races the Chainlink fulfillment. The fulfillment's calldata reveals the random word and the engine is public, so the losing side can front-run a losing fulfillment with a cancel and turn a certain loss into a full refund. The winner gets only their stake back instead of 1.9 ETH in the reproduction. Precondition is a fulfillment delayed past 24 hours, which the attacker cannot cause, hence low. A two-step cancel would remove the option but deviates from the spec, so it is a scope decision.
    • Low, keeper/core.mjs line 61. The keeper requests randomness for every two-sided round regardless of pool size. Two minimum bets cost a griefer exactly the rake, 0.0001 ETH per round, while the keeper pays the full VRF quote. I read the live Sepolia wrapper: 0.00623 ETH per request at 20 gwei, 0.00031 ETH at 1 gwei, flat fee zero. The contract already lets the keeper cancel Open rounds, so a minimum-pool policy in the keeper is the fix, again a spec deviation for the requester to decide.
    • Info, src/CatWars.sol line 203. Trust assumption: the owner or keeper can cancel a locked round after seeing final odds. If that account also bets, it holds a free selection option over which pools resolve. By design per the spec; the README should state the operator must not bet.

Verified as holding. Solvency and conservation on every refund, claim and owed path. Stakes can never fund VRF. Status transitions are one-way and mutually exclusive. Rake snapshot, pro-rata payout rounding, reentrancy coverage, and the callback's gas budget. I also confirmed against the live Sepolia coordinator that 3 confirmations and the 150k callback limit are accepted, so requests will not revert on chain. The coverage record answers all 23 entry points plus three invariants.

    Observations outside the findings.

    • No launch.json exists in this tree, so there was no manifest to review.
    • The README states the factory allocates 88% to liquidity and 2% to the payer. The canonical rule given to me is 10% swarm, 80% pool unless chosen otherwise, remainder to the wallet. I could not verify what the requester chose, so this is flagged for the manifest reviewer rather than reported.
    • The verbatim engine seeds its PRNG from only the top 16 bytes of the word, so every test word below 2^128 yields the same fight. Several repo tests use such words. Real VRF words are full-width, so this is a test-authoring caveat, not a production defect.

Not reached. No fork test against the live wrapper and no measurement of per-matchup win skew, which would only sharpen the info item.

    • lowPermissionless 24h cancel lets the losing side veto a late VRF fulfillment it can read in the mempoolsrc/CatWars.sol:207

Flow gap (execution x periphery x first principles). Once a Requested round passes requestedAt + 24h, cancelRound is open to anyone and races the Chainlink fulfillment. The fulfillment transaction carries the VRF proof, from which words[0] is derivable (randomness = keccak256(gamma); word = keccak256(randomness, 0)), and CatWarsEngine.simulate is public and deterministic, so the outcome of the pending fulfillment is computable before it is mined.

The bettor on the losing side therefore holds a free option: let a winning fulfillment land, or front-run a losing one with cancelRound and take a full refund. fulfillRandomWords then returns early because status is no longer Requested, and the winning side, which should have received pool - rake, receives only its stake.

The precondition is a fulfillment that arrives more than 24 hours after the request (oracle outage, drained wrapper subscription, node gas-price cap); inside the window the race does not exist, which is why severity is low.

README line 62 documents the race as 'transaction order decides', but not that the order is chosen by the party who already knows the result; the keeper itself also cancels unconditionally at 24h (keeper/core.mjs line 73-75), so in practice every >24h fulfillment is voided whichever side it favours.

Proposed fix that keeps the public timeout: make the post-timeout cancellation two-step, e.g. anyone may record cancelRequestedAt after 24h and anyone may finalize the Cancelled status only after a further delay (say 1h), while a fulfillment that lands at any point before finalization still moves the round to Fulfilled and blocks the cancel. That removes the ability to decide with knowledge of the word.

It deviates from SPEC section 2.2's single-step 'anyone if Requested and now > requestedAt + 24 hours', so it is a scope decision for the requester rather than a silent change.

      State: round 0 opened with cats (0,1); alice placeBet{1 ether}(0, 0); bob placeBet{1 ether}(0, 1); warp to lockAt; anyone calls requestResult{value: vrfPrice()}(0) -> status Requested, requestedAt = T.

Choose a full-width word W such that CatWarsEngine.simulate(0, 1, bytes32(W)) returns winner 0 (e.g. the first keccak256(abi.encode("veto", i)) with that property; words below 2^128 all seed the PRNG identically, so use full-width words).

      Warp to T + 24 hours + 1.

The wrapper's fulfillment carrying W is pending; bob (side 1, the loser under W) calls cancelRound(0): the check at line 207 passes, status becomes Cancelled.

The wrapper then delivers rawFulfillRandomWords(requestId, [W]): fulfillRandomWords sees status != Requested and returns, randomWord stays 0. claimFor(0, alice) and claimFor(0, bob) each return exactly 1 ether; owed[treasury] stays 0.

Expected under the protocol's rule 'winners split the pot': alice should receive floor(1 ether * (2 ether - 0.1 ether) / 1 ether) = 1.9 ether and the treasury 0.1 ether.

Actual: alice 1 ether, bob 1 ether, treasury 0.

Control: if the same fulfillment lands one block earlier, bob's cancelRound reverts CancellationNotAllowed, settle(0) runs and alice receives 1.9 ether.

Scratch test used: test/scratch/TimeoutVeto.t.sol (test_loserVetoesLateFulfillment passes on current code, i.e. the veto succeeds; test_sameWordBeforeDeadlinePaysAlice is the control).

    • lowKeeper funds the full VRF fee for any two-sided round, so two minimum bets impose a per-round loss far above the rake it earnskeeper/core.mjs:61

Economic incentive gap. By design (SPEC hard rule 'Player stakes never pay for VRF') the request caller funds the oracle fee, and the treasury's only income is rakeBps of the pool. The keeper loop requests randomness for every two-sided round regardless of pool size, so the operator's break-even condition is pool * rakeBps / 10_000 >= vrfPrice(), i.e. pool >= 20 * vrfPrice() at the default 5% rake.

Live Sepolia wrapper 0x195f15F2d49d693cE265b4fB0fdDbE15b1850Cc1 (queried via eth_call on 2026-10-13: wrapperGasOverhead 13,400, coordinatorGasOverheadNative 90,000, premium 24%, flat fee 0) quotes calculateRequestPriceNative(150000, 1) = 6,230,788,000,000,000 wei (0.00623 ETH) at 20 gwei and 311,539,400,000,000 wei (0.00031 ETH) at 1 gwei; the mainnet wrapper the spec also names has the same fee shape.

A griefer controlling two addresses bets minBet (0.001 ETH) on each side of every round; whichever address wins gets back floor(0.001 * 0.0019 / 0.001) = 0.0019 ETH, so the griefer's cost is exactly the rake, 0.0001 ETH per round plus gas, independent of gas price, while the keeper pays the full VRF quote, which scales with gas price (62x the griefer's cost at 20 gwei, 3x at 1 gwei).

With bettingDuration = 300 s the loop produces up to 288 such rounds per day, about 1.76 ETH/day of keeper outflow at 20 gwei against 0.03 ETH/day of rake. Natural low-stake rounds trigger the same loss without any attacker. The contract already gives the operator the lever to stop this: owner/keeper may cancel an Open round at any time (src/CatWars.sol line 203), which refunds every stake.

Proposed fix in the keeper only: before requesting, compare pool * rakeBps / 10_000 (or a configured minimum pool) with the quoted price and cancelRound instead of requestResult when the round cannot cover its oracle cost; optionally raise minBet. This departs from the SPEC section 5 loop ('wait for lockAt -> requestResult'), so it needs the requester's decision; the README should also state the operator's break-even pool size.

State: tx.gasprice = 20 gwei; keeper set via setKeeper; attackerA and attackerB are two EOAs of one griefer.

Sequence: keeper openRound(0, 1); attackerA placeBet{0.001 ether}(id, 0); attackerB placeBet{0.001 ether}(id, 1); warp to lockAt; the keeper loop (keeper/core.mjs lines 57-61) quotes vrfPrice() and sends requestResult with value = 1.2 * price; wrapper fulfills; settle(id); claimFor(id, winner); treasury withdraw().

With a wrapper quoting (150000 + 100000) * 20 gwei + 0.001 ether = 0.006 ETH the measured result is: attacker net loss 100,000,000,000,000 wei (0.0001 ETH, the rake), keeper net loss 6,000,000,000,000,000 wei (0.006 ETH, the whole VRF fee), treasury income 0.0001 ETH; keeper loss is 60x the griefer's cost.

Expected for a sustainable loop: the keeper never requests when the round's rake cannot cover the oracle fee (cancel and refund instead).

      Actual: it always requests.

Scratch test used: test/scratch/DustPool.t.sol (test_dustPoolForcesKeeperToFundVrf, passes on current code and logs the three amounts).

    • infoTrust assumption: owner/keeper can cancel a locked round after seeing the final odds, a free selection option if that account also betssrc/CatWars.sol:203

Documented as a trust assumption, not a defect: SPEC section 2.2 grants owner/keeper cancellation of any Open round, and no unprivileged amplifier exists. Economic consequence worth stating explicitly in the README: after lockAt no bet can be added, so the keeper sees the final total0/total1 before anyone can force requestResult (bettors cannot request before lockAt, and the keeper can cancel in the same block as lockAt or earlier).

An owner/keeper account that also bets can therefore keep only the rounds whose implied odds favour its bet and refund the rest. The fight outcome is still unknown at that point, so this is odds selection rather than outcome selection, but it is a systematic edge over other bettors, and the README currently says only that the keeper 'may cancel any Open round'.

Options for the requester: state in the README that the keeper/owner accounts must not bet, or (spec deviation) restrict the privileged early cancel to block.timestamp < lockAt so that a locked pool can only be requested or time out.

State: keeper K also controls bettor address K2.

      Sequence: K openRound(2, 5); K2 placeBet{1 ether}(id, 0); other players bet 9 ether on side 0 and 1 ether on side 1 by lockAt - 1.

At lockAt, K observes that side 0 now pays only (11 - 0.55) / 10 = 1.045x and calls cancelRound(id): the condition at line 203 is false for the keeper, so status becomes Cancelled and K2 is refunded 1 ether.

In a parallel round where side 1 holds 9 ether and side 0 holds 1 ether (K2's bet pays 9.5x), K instead calls requestResult.

Expected for a neutral operator: locked pools resolve regardless of their composition.

Actual: the operator chooses which locked pools resolve.

No stake is lost; the harm is the biased selection of resolved rounds against other bettors.

  8. Audit judgeAgent #1682found 2 low, 3 info

The review is complete. The findings file is written and validated, the scratch tests are removed, and no tracked file changed.

Outcome. No critical, high, or medium defects. The contract follows the spec closely and the full suite passes (54 Foundry tests, 17 keeper tests). I kept 2 low and 3 info findings, all reproduced with a scratch Foundry test before reporting.

    Findings kept, in .imd-findings.json:

    • Low, merged duplicate. The permissions and economics specialists both reported the same root cause at src/CatWars.sol:207. After a request is 24 hours old, anyone can cancel it, and a loser who reads the pending VRF word in the mempool can cancel selectively. The winner then gets a refund instead of the pot. It is spec-conformant, so the fix is a scope decision for the requester.
    • Low, keeper script. The keeper requests randomness for any two-sided round regardless of pool size, so two minimum bets cost the operator the whole VRF fee against 0.0001 ETH of rake. Reproduced numerically at keeper/core.mjs:61.
    • Info. Owner or keeper can cancel a locked round after seeing final odds. Spec-granted trust assumption, worth stating in the README.
    • Info. Rake on the whole pot makes a lopsided winner net negative. Exactly the spec formula, so no code change required.
    • Info. The manifest hard-codes the Sepolia wrapper and the chain is chosen by policy. Admission should confirm chain 11155111.

Dropped. The README literal-owner note from the permissions specialist. The manifest already passes the literal string $owner, which is correct, and the launch facts I have name no owner to check the README's claim against.

Own pass. I traced all 23 entry points plus solvency, deployment, and manifest schema. The vendored Chainlink base differs from upstream only by formatting and the documented lazy-LINK change. Fulfillment fits comfortably in the 150k callback gas. Bet and request windows are disjoint, so no bet can follow a known word.

One item unverified. The sandbox denied access to github.com, so I could not diff the engine against the upstream spec commit directly. The 500 reference vectors pass and the file hashes match the dependency record, which I recorded as an honest unreached row rather than a claim.

    • lowPermissionless 24h cancel of a Requested round is outcome-selectable once the late VRF fulfillment is visible in the mempoolsrc/CatWars.sol:207

Merged from audit_permissions and audit_economics (same root cause). After requestedAt + 24h, cancelRound on a Requested round is open to anyone with no further condition, and fulfillRandomWords (line 179) silently ignores a word that arrives after cancellation. A Chainlink fulfillment transaction carries the VRF proof, so words[0] is derivable before it is mined, and CatWarsEngine.simulate is deterministic and public.

Whoever would lose under the pending word therefore holds a free option: let a favourable fulfillment land, or front-run an unfavourable one with cancelRound and take a full refund. The winning side receives only its stake instead of stake*(pool-rake)/winningTotal, and the request caller's VRF fee is lost. The precondition is a fulfillment that is more than 24 hours late (oracle outage, wrapper disabled, gas spikes); inside the window the race does not exist.

The shipped keeper also cancels unconditionally at 24h (keeper/core.mjs line 73), so in practice every late fulfillment is voided. This follows SPEC.md 2.2 literally ('anyone if Requested and now > requestedAt + 24 hours') and README line 62 says transaction order decides, but neither states that the party choosing the order already knows the result.

Reported as low: no principal is lost, only expected winnings under a specific oracle-delay condition. Any fix (e.g. a two-step cancel after 24h: anyone records a cancel request, cancellation finalizes after a further delay unless a fulfillment lands first; or at minimum documenting the selection risk and not having the keeper cancel the moment the window opens) deviates from SPEC 2.2 and is the requester's scope decision.

      State: owner sets keeper K.

      K.openRound(0,1) -> id 0; alice.placeBet{1 ether}(0,0); bob.placeBet{1 ether}(0,1); warp to lockAt; K.requestResult{value: vrfPrice()}(0) -> Requested, requestedAt = T.

Pick a full-width word W with CatWarsEngine.simulate(0,1,bytes32(W)) returning winner 0 (alice wins; the first keccak256(abi.encode("veto", i)) with that property).

      At T + 24h: bob.cancelRound(0) reverts CancellationNotAllowed (control).

      At T + 24h + 1: bob.cancelRound(0) succeeds, status = Cancelled; wrapper then delivers rawFulfillRandomWords(1,[W]) -> no revert, no state change; settle(0) reverts WrongStatus.

      Actual: pendingPayout(0,alice) = 1 ether, pendingPayout(0,bob) = 1 ether, owed[treasury] = 0.

Expected under 'winners split the pot': alice 1.9 ether, bob 0, treasury 0.1 ether.

      Control run with the same W delivered at T + 24h + 1 before bob's cancel: bob.cancelRound reverts, settle succeeds, pendingPayout(0,alice) = 1.9 ether, owed[treasury] = 0.1 ether.

Verified with test/scratch/Repro.t.sol (test_loserVetoesLateFulfillment and test_sameWordBeforeDeadlinePaysAlice, both pass on this code, i.e. the behaviour is as described).

    • lowKeeper funds the full VRF fee for every two-sided round regardless of pool size, so two minimum bets cost the operator far more than the rake earnskeeper/core.mjs:61

From audit_economics; reproduced. By design (SPEC hard rule 'Player stakes never pay for VRF') the requestResult caller funds the oracle fee and the treasury's only income is rakeBps of the pool. The keeper loop requests randomness for any round with total0 > 0 and total1 > 0 without comparing the round's rake to the quoted VRF price.

A griefer with two addresses bets minBet (0.001 ETH) on each side of every round: whichever address wins gets back floor(0.001 * 0.0019 / 0.001) = 0.0019 ETH, so the griefer's net cost per round is exactly the rake, 0.0001 ETH, independent of gas price, while the keeper pays the full VRF quote, which scales with gas price (the live Sepolia wrapper's fee structure gives roughly 0.006 ETH at 20 gwei for a 150k callback).

With bettingDuration = 300 s the keeper can be made to fund up to 288 such rounds per day. Natural low-stake rounds cause the same loss without an attacker. The contract already provides the lever (owner/keeper may cancel any Open round, src/CatWars.sol line 203, refunding all stakes); the keeper simply does not use it.

This is an operator-economics gap in the keeper script, not a contract defect, and a fix in keeper/core.mjs (compare pool * rakeBps / 10000, or a configured minimum pool, to the quote and cancelRound instead of requestResult when the round cannot cover its oracle cost) deviates from the SPEC section 5 loop, so it needs the requester's decision. The README should state the operator's break-even pool size (pool >= 20 * vrfPrice at the default 5% rake).

State: tx.gasprice = 20 gwei; mock wrapper quoting fee 0.002 ether + callbackGasLimit * tx.gasprice (the real wrapper has the same shape: overhead gas * gas price plus premium). keeper K opens round 0 (cats 0,1); attackerA.placeBet{0.001 ether}(0,0); attackerB.placeBet{0.001 ether}(0,1); warp to lockAt; K.requestResult{value: vrfPrice()}(0) as the keeper loop does (core.mjs lines 57-61).

      Measured: K's balance drops by exactly price = 0.002 ether + 150000 * 20 gwei = 0.005 ETH; after fulfill and settle, owed[treasury] = 0.0001 ETH and pendingPayout(0, winner) = 0.0019 ETH, so the griefer's net cost is 0.0001 ETH and the keeper's net cost is 0.005 ETH (50x).

Expected for a sustainable loop: the keeper cancels (refunding both 0.001 ETH stakes) instead of requesting when rake < price.

      Actual: it always requests.

Verified with test/scratch/Repro.t.sol test_dustPoolKeeperFundsVrf (passes on this code and logs both amounts).

    • infoTrust assumption: owner/keeper may cancel a locked two-sided round after seeing the final oddssrc/CatWars.sol:203

From audit_economics; reproduced. SPEC 2.2 grants owner/keeper cancellation of any Open round, and the round stays Open after lockAt until someone calls requestResult. Bettors cannot request before lockAt, so the keeper always sees the final total0/total1 before anyone can force a request and can refund any locked pool whose odds it dislikes.

No stake is lost and the fight outcome is unknown at that point, so this is odds selection rather than outcome selection, but an owner/keeper account that also bets gains a systematic edge over other bettors. Not a permission bypass: it is the specified role.

The README (line 57) states only that the keeper may cancel any Open round; it should also state that operator accounts must not bet, or the requester may choose (spec deviation) to restrict the privileged cancel to block.timestamp < lockAt.

      State: keeper K.

      K.openRound(0,1) -> id 0; alice.placeBet{9 ether}(0,0); bob.placeBet{1 ether}(0,1); warp to lockAt (betting closed, pool final).

K.cancelRound(0): the condition on line 203 is false for the keeper, status = Cancelled.

      Actual: pendingPayout(0,alice) = 9 ether, pendingPayout(0,bob) = 1 ether, no VRF request made.

A non-keeper caller at the same timestamp reverts CancellationNotAllowed until lockAt + 1h.

      Verified with test/scratch/Repro.t.sol test_keeperCancelsLockedRound.

    • infoRake is charged on the whole pot, so a heavily favoured winning side can receive less than it stakedsrc/CatWars.sol:191

From audit_math; reproduced. This is exactly the SPEC 2.2 formula (rake = pool * rakeBps / 10000; payout = stake * (pool - rake) / winningTotal) and the arithmetic is correct, overflow-free and rounds down.

Economic property only: whenever rake exceeds the losing side's total, the winners' aggregate payout is below their aggregate stake. At the maximum 1000 bps this happens whenever the losing side holds less than about 11.1% of the winning side. The frontend's payout multiplier (pool - rake)/sideTotal exposes this as a value below 1x before betting.

No code change is required to satisfy the specification; capping rake at the losing side's total would be a design change for the requester.

      owner.setRakeBps(1000); keeper.openRound(0,1) -> id 0; alice.placeBet{100 ether}(0,0); bob.placeBet{1 ether}(0,1); warp to lockAt; requestResult; fulfill with a word under which cat 0 wins; settle(0).

      Actual: getRound(0).rake = 10.1 ether, pendingPayout(0,alice) = 90.9 ether, i.e. alice wins and nets -9.1 ether.

Expected per the spec formula: the same values (the code is correct); the observation is the design property.

      Verified with test/scratch/Repro.t.sol test_rakeExceedsLosingSide.

    • infoManifest hard-codes the Sepolia VRF wrapper; the launch chain is selected by policy, not the manifest, and must be 11155111launch.json:13

From audit_flow; reproduced against the manifest now present. The wrapper is immutable with no setter, and the constructor intentionally makes no external call (required by the empty-chain launch check).

If the policy row selected for this launch deploys to any chain where that address has no code (or unrelated code), every requestResult on a two-sided round reverts WrapperUnavailable (vrfPrice, line 303) and the only exit is the public cancel after lockAt + 1h: the game is permanently refund-only.

The manifest is otherwise correct for the requester's stated Sepolia target (SPEC 2.1, README line 32, keeper/adapter.mjs refuses any other chain or wrapper), constructor order matches (address vrfWrapper, address owner_), the address is lowercase, and owner is "$owner", not a literal. This is a service/admission check to record (confirm launch.chainId = 11155111 before deploying), not a source defect; chainId is not a manifest field and must not be added.

State: any chain where 0x195f15F2d49d693cE265b4fB0fdDbE15b1850Cc1 has no code (local Foundry chain). new CatWars(0x195f15F2d49d693cE265b4fB0fdDbE15b1850Cc1, owner) succeeds (constructor does not touch the wrapper; test/Deployment.t.sol proves this). owner.openRound(0,1); A.placeBet{1 ether}(0,0); B.placeBet{1 ether}(0,1); warp to lockAt; anyone.requestResult{1 ether}(0).

Expected on Sepolia: round becomes Requested.

Actual on such a chain: reverts WrapperUnavailable(); cancelRound(0) reverts CancellationNotAllowed until lockAt + 1h + 1s, then cancels and bettors can only be refunded.

Confirmed by the existing test_emptyChainConstructorAndFirstUseValidation in test/CatWars.t.sol.

    Requirements

    • "frontend source ... under web/" met: web/src, package.json, lockfile, vite config.
    • "static export at repository-root dist/" met: dist/index.html plus assets.
    • "validation evidence within its write scope" missing: no document under web/ or docs/ records a frontend build, typecheck, test or browser run. docs/VALIDATION.md covers contracts only.
    • "Emit dist/imd-deployment.json" with the stated schema met: version, launchId, chainId, sourceCommit, attestationHash, contracts, assets, poolKey, network, walletAddChain and no other key.
    • "copy launchId, chainId, sourceCommit, attestationHash, contract set" met: all values equal the handoff.
    • "poolKey copied exactly" met: five fields unchanged.
    • "network and walletAddChain copied unchanged" met.
    • "ABI hashes verified against the handoff" met: manifest.mjs computes canonical keccak and refuses on mismatch.
    • "frontend loads imd-deployment.json as runtime configuration" met: loadConfig in web/src/config.ts fetches the manifest and the two ABI files, and no address map exists elsewhere.
    • "every exported file hashed, manifest excludes itself" met: all ten SHA-256 values recomputed and equal.
    • "at most 128 assets, 8 MiB per file, well under the budget" met: ten assets, 856 KiB total.
    • "wallet connect: injected wallets" met: Header.tsx with EIP-6963 discovery.
    • "plus WalletConnect" missing: only the injected connector is registered. The project id needs the requester, but the connector wiring is the builder's.
    • "read-only mode without a wallet" met: the page reads settings, rounds and swap quotes with no wallet.
    • "switch-network prompt" met: NetworkGate and SwitchButton with the add-chain fallback.
    • "TESTNET badge on Sepolia" met: header badge.
    • "live data: round, cats, stats, countdown, totals, pool %, multiplier, backers, own bet" met: Arena.tsx reads getRound, getBet and BetPlaced logs.
    • "bet: amount input with chips, side buttons, placeBet with pending, confirmed, error states" met: BetPanel and TxStatus.
    • "replay with engine.simulate from bytes32(randomWord), verified note and seed" met: replayRound in lib/engine.ts pads the word to 32 bytes big-endian and compares winner and turns.
    • "claim across past rounds and withdraw owed" met: Claims.tsx.
    • "history with matchup, winner, pool, seed, explorer link" met: History.tsx.
    • "portraits from art/catart.js, engine from engine/engine.js" met: both vendored files hash-identical to the spec commit.
    • "footer disclaimer" met: exact text in App.tsx.
    • "no fake bots, balances or simulated bets" met: every number is read from the chain, the swap price comes from StateView and the quoter.
    • "source published, site hosted on IPFS" after review.
    • "WalletConnect project id" needs the requester.

The idea. A dark betting arena where two cat portraits face off over a pot, and the eight canonical portraits are the one visual device. Nothing competes with them.

Findings in .imd-findings.json, four in total:

    • High, fidelity. No frontend validation evidence is committed. The brief names it as a deliverable.
    • Medium, fidelity. WalletConnect is not wired. The config reads a project id it never uses.
    • Low, taste. In the How it works panel the two full addresses wrap into a jumble at 390 with a lone full stop on the last line.
    • Low, taste. The history table uses an em dash as its empty placeholder. It will show as soon as a round opens.

No file in the tree was changed. The probe ran and passed every check, and its output stayed in test/scratch. I could not exercise the live round layout (cat cards, timer ring, tug bar) because no round has been opened on the deployed

    • highfidelity: no frontend validation evidence is committed, although the brief requires itweb/src/config.ts:81

Now: the brief says this assignment "produces the frontend source, committed static export and validation evidence within its write scope" and that "worker build/typecheck/browser/interaction validation remains required".

The tree has web/ source and dist/, but no document under docs/ or web/ records a frontend build, typecheck, vitest, browser or interaction run. docs/VALIDATION.md covers only Solidity, Foundry and the keeper; the only README in the tree is the root one, which does not mention web/, and the comment in web/src/config.ts points at a web README that does not exist.

Change to: add web/README.md (or docs/FRONTEND-VALIDATION.md) recording the exact commands run (npm ci, npm run typecheck, npm run test, npm run build, node scripts/manifest.mjs), their results, the browsers used for the interaction walk (Chromium and WebKit) at 390 and 1440, the states exercised (read-only, connect prompt, wrong network, empty round, swap quote), and the WalletConnect project id variable the config comment refers to.

Why: the brief lists validation evidence as a deliverable of this stage and the builder can produce it entirely inside web/ or docs/.

      Any width.

From the repository root run ls web/*.md docs/*.md and grep -rli 'vitest\|typecheck\|playwright\|browser' docs web/*.md: no file under web/ is a markdown document, and no document under docs/ mentions a frontend build, typecheck, test or browser run.

Expected: a committed evidence document for the frontend.

      Actual: none.

    • mediumfidelity: WalletConnect connection asked for by the spec is not wired; only injected wallets can connectweb/src/config.ts:153

Now: SPEC.md section 4 requires "Wallet connect (injected wallets such as MetaMask/Rabby, plus WalletConnect)". The wagmi config registers only the injected connector. loadConfig reads VITE_WALLETCONNECT_PROJECT_ID into walletConnectProjectId, but nothing consumes it, so even a build given a project id offers no WalletConnect option, and a phone visitor without an injected wallet sees only "No browser wallet found. Install MetaMask or Rabby to play".

Change to: in buildWagmiConfig add walletConnect({ projectId: cfg.walletConnectProjectId }) to the connectors array when walletConnectProjectId is non-null (wagmi/connectors already ships it), list it in the Header connector menu, and state in the hint and the README that the WalletConnect option appears only when a project id is supplied at build time.

Why: the spec names WalletConnect explicitly. The project id itself needs the requester (a WalletConnect Cloud key the brief does not give), so the connector wiring is what the builder can meet here.

390 wide, Chromium with no wallet extension.

Open dist/index.html and press "Connect wallet": the header shows the hint "No browser wallet found.

Install MetaMask or Rabby to play; reads work without one." and no WalletConnect / QR option exists.

In source, grep -rn walletConnect web/src finds only the unused walletConnectProjectId field in config.ts (lines 82, 134, 144) and no connector.

Expected: a WalletConnect connector alongside injected.

      Actual: injected only.

    • lowtaste: the contract and token addresses in How it works wrap into a jumble with a stray full stop at 390web/src/App.tsx:61

Now: one sentence holds two full 42-character addresses, each with an inline Copy button, inside a 13px hint. At 390 the address breaks mid-string across two lines, the Copy button drops to its own line, "on Sepolia. Token MEOW" sits between them and the closing "." lands alone on the last line.

Change to: replace the sentence with a two-row definition list, each row <dt>Game</dt><dd><AddressLink full /></dd> and <dt>Token MEOW</dt><dd><AddressLink full /></dd>, drop the trailing ".", and give .about .addr display: flex so the link and Copy sit on one row with the address allowed to wrap inside the link. The full address stays visible and copyable; nothing is ellipsized.

Why: critical text (an address) must stay whole and legible, and a label with its value reads at a glance when it owns a row.

      390 wide.

Load dist/index.html, scroll to the "How it works" panel.

The probe screenshot test/scratch/taste/shots/390-full.png shows: line "Game", then the game address broken across two lines, "Copy" alone on the next line, "on Sepolia.

Token MEOW", the token address broken across two lines, "Copy" alone again, then a line holding only ".".

Expected: each address on its own labelled row with Copy beside it.

      Actual: as above.

    • lowtaste: history table uses an em dash as a placeholder in the Seed and Link columnsweb/src/components/History.tsx:40

Now: a round that is not yet settled shows '—' in the Seed cell (line 40) and a round without an explorer link shows '—' in the Link cell (line 41).

Change to: Seed cell shows nothing for unsettled rounds (empty <td>), Link cell shows nothing when there is no explorer, so the column reads as absent rather than as a glyph.

Why: the house bar excludes em dashes from the site's own text, and the probe only passed because no round existed at review time; the first open round makes the glyph appear on every unsettled row.

Any width, once roundCount on the game contract is at least 1 and the latest round is not settled.

The Recent fights table renders a row whose Seed cell is the single character U+2014.

      Expected: an empty cell.

      Actual: '—'.

Source lines 40 and 41 of web/src/components/History.tsx contain the literal.

  12. Frontend for contractAgent #129520 files changed

All four findings are answered in .imd-responses.json and the revision is committed as 5d8cc00 on top of the accepted tree.

    What reproduced and what changed

    • Missing validation evidence (high): fixed. The tree had no frontend evidence at all. I added docs/FRONTEND-VALIDATION.md, web/README.md and web/DESIGN.md (the root is outside the write scope, so DESIGN.md lives under web/). The evidence comes from runs made this round, not from the previous session.
    • WalletConnect not wired (medium): fixed. The connector is added when a project id is supplied at build time through a Vite define, so a build without one statically drops it and its 80 modal chunks. The committed export stays at 10 files and 819 KiB. A trial build with an id produced 91 files and about 2 MiB, inside the limits. While testing I found that pressing Connect with no wallet attempted a connection with an empty connector instead of showing the hint, so the hint is now a popover that also names the missing WalletConnect option.
    • Address sentence wrapping (low): fixed. Two labelled rows with the full address wrapping inside its link and Copy beside it, measured at 320, 390 and 1440.
    • Em-dash placeholders (low): fixed. History cells are empty, and the matching trade-panel cells were changed for the same reason.

The walk exercised read-only live reads, the no-wallet prompt, a mock wallet on chain 1 with the 4902 add-chain flow checked byte-for-byte against the chain table, a live quoter quote, and a swap taken to the signing step with nothing broadcast.

Limitations, recorded in the evidence file: WebKit cannot launch on this host (missing system libraries, no root), so all rendered checks are Chromium only. No round exists on chain, so betting, VRF request, settle, claim and cancel were not exercised live. No WalletConnect project id was supplied, so that path was verified to compile and bundle, not connected end to end.
