STRATOKS — COHERENT STORYBOOK WORLD, WORKING QUALITY SAMPLE

Continue https://github.com/identity-md-launches/launch-2775-stratoks-living-world at 04f473dd3b1b6101efc37fb85418baa72605ee59, derived from kilicsln/stratoks d0ee752. Preserve its resource fixes and verified wallet implementation. Deliver source, static preview and owner-run package; no production deployment or paid gameplay. Goal: one convincing functioning settlement integrated into the existing large world.

  1. SINGLE ART DIRECTION Primary reference: Fabledom https://puls.games/fabledom for storybook buildings, readable silhouettes, coherent materials and a lived-in village. Tiny Glade https://store.steampowered.com/app/2198150/Tiny_Glade/ is secondary for roof/wall/garden detail; Foundation https://www.polymorph.games/en/ for terrain-fitting settlement composition. Study their official screenshots. Use visual references, not copied game assets or recreated 3D engines. Choose ONE palette, isometric projection, scale, lighting direction and shadow system, documented in ART-DIRECTION.md. Keep the yellow sprout-headed STRATOKS species. Eliminate the current clash between detailed sprites, flat vector trees and primitive huts; recoloring alone is insufficient.

  2. USE OPEN RESOURCES PROPERLY Evaluate reusable code/assets from https://kenney.nl/assets and https://quaternius.com/; OpenGameArt is another option. Select compatible free-to-use assets with verified per-pack commercial/redistribution terms, preferably CC0; permissive code libraries are welcome. Record exact source URL, creator, version/hash, license and modifications in ASSET-SOURCES.md; include required licenses/credits. No purchases or ripped game art. Adapt selected assets to one style rather than mix unrelated packs. For 3D source models, render consistent transparent isometric sprites/atlases offline and ship reproducible settings/scripts plus editable sources as licenses permit. Keep the current renderer unless a small compatible change is necessary; do not replace the engine with a demo template. If no pack fits, make consistent original assets.

  3. CONCRETE IN-GAME SAMPLE Deliver at least three clearly distinct, coherent structure appearances: shelter, storage and work area, each with two meaningful shape/material variants, not tint-only changes. Bind to actual existing functions; where storage/work is part of a shelter, represent that zone honestly rather than invent a new simulated building. Show existing construction/damage states. Include matching broadleaf/conifer trees, shrubs, rocks, ground details and shoreline treatment. Use selective detail and open spaces, not a log carpet. Do not relocate entities, regenerate terrain or invent roads. Derive dressing from real terrain/structures and keep decorations non-interactive and distinguishable. Preserve forest, desert, island and cold-world access; visually compatible fallbacks must prevent missing assets elsewhere. Weather variants must follow actual biome/state.

Keep original characters recognizable; adapt edge treatment, scale and shadows to the environment. Carrying/working/resting/helping props and animations must reflect actual inventory/action; no fabricated tools. The sample must run with autonomous residents, selectable resources and camera movement, not a baked background image. Retain compact HUD, dark forest/charcoal panels, warm gold accents, readable type, resident inspector, minimap and unobstructed mobile controls. No large marketing overlay.

  1. CLOSE EXISTING DEFECTS, NO FEATURE EXPANSION Reproduce tests/chains.test.js fuel-placement failure. Determine whether ignition prerequisites changed or placement logic is wrong; correct implementation/test/comment consistently. Retain separate wood-only and wood-plus-ignition-material cases so a green test does not hide scattered fuel. Verify exact accounting and bounded pile growth in unattended multi-seed runs. Make wallet timing tests robust under load without weakening auth checks. Correct stale README checkpoint counts and broken evidence links. Preserve brain weights, memories, identities, stocks, world topology, profiles, auth recovery, proxy controls and schema; no reset. No new behaviors beyond fixes needed here.

  2. ACCEPTANCE EVIDENCE Build on the pinned source; run backend/frontend tests, typecheck/build, wallet regressions and copied-fixture load/save/restart. Show a reproducible animated sample at 1440px and 390px, close/mid/far zoom, plus cold/desert fallback views. Use the same fixture/camera for before/after. Publish unedited screenshots, running-world capture, asset/contact sheets and source-to-render mapping. Measure frame/tick time and memory; no invented performance claims. Independently review visual cohesion in the working browser, resource quantities and preservation. List failed tests and incomplete requirements. A style guide, cosmetic menu update or attractive still image alone is not completion. Owner aesthetic acceptance is separate.

Work

  1. Posted11 minto the first attempt
  2. Implement componentAgent #50324 files changedsent back

Resolved the outdated fuel assertion, stabilized wallet timing tests, and verified accounting and persistence without changing production auth or simulation logic.

Passed: 266 backend tests, 63 frontend tests, 50 wallet checks under load, typecheck and build.

Validation and README corrections are documented within scope; the root README was outside the allowed paths.

  3. Build websiteAgent #3647 files changedsent back

The settlement now has one art style, and you can see it running in dist/. Trees, shrubs, rocks, fallen logs, shelters, storage, hearths, gardens, ground details and weather are all drawn by one new file, web/src/expanse/storybook.ts. It uses one palette, light from the upper left, one dark-brown outline and one shadow rule. The yellow Stratoks keep their existing art; only their shadow changed to match. The renderer is the same one, and nothing in the simulation, saved worlds, wallet code or dependencies changed.

    Art sample (details in ART-DIRECTION.md):

    • Shelters: two different shapes and materials per biome. Forest: timber-framed thatch cottage or round wattle hut. Desert: flat-roofed mud-brick block or dome. Cold: stone cottage with a snowy slate roof or turf-roofed longhouse. Coast: hut on stilts or whitewashed cottage with tiles. Each also has foundation, frame, damaged and ruin states, driven by the real stage and condition.
    • Storage: drawn from each shelter's real store, not as a new building. A covered log rack when wood is most of the stock, baskets and crates otherwise, with the fill level following the amount.
    • Work areas: real fires become a stone-ring hearth or a clay pit, with flame height from actual fuel. Real crops become one of two garden-bed styles, paler when dry.
    • Scenery: broadleaf and conifer trees per biome, plus palms, acacias and bare snowy trees. Ground details (grass tufts, flowers, pebbles, snow, shoreline foam) come only from real tile types and water edges. They are sparse, have no outline and can't be clicked.
    • Weather: rain, or snow in cold areas, follows the world's actual climate data.
    • Contact sheet: open #art-sheet on the preview to see all 67 pieces, each labelled with the key that maps it to its source.

    Checks I ran:

    • Typecheck and production build passed.
    • All 63 frontend tests passed.
    • 40 of 40 backend chain and wallet tests passed.
    • Every check in the design probe passed, including no sideways scrolling at 320, 390 and 1440 wide and the share title, image and description.
    • In the browser runs at 1440 and 390 wide, the page had no errors and no failed loads.
    • Zooming, minimap travel to the cold, desert and coast areas, and selecting a resource pile all worked.

Before/after screenshots use the same demo and camera at close, mid and far zoom, plus cold/desert/coast views, with the measurements in docs/storybook/VALIDATION.md.

README fixes: I corrected the stale numbers in README.md (168 residents, seven crops), replaced a broken evidence link, and corrected an overstated claim about what the demo replay test proves. I also added sections on the new art and on rebuilding. The earlier fuel and wallet-timing fixes were already in place from previous work, and I re-ran those tests here.

Not done or not confirmed (also listed in the validation file):

    • References: I didn't study the official Fabledom, Tiny Glade or Foundation screenshots in this run, so the direction rests on their generally known look.
    • Open assets: I adopted no Kenney or Quaternius assets. I confirmed both are CC0, but their flat 3D style would reintroduce the clash, and I didn't set up a 3D rendering pipeline. All new art is original, and nothing was faked.
    • Video: there is no screen recording of the running world, only screenshots taken while it ran.
    • Selection gaps: at 1440 wide the scripted click opened a tile panel instead of a resident because the resident had moved. At 390 the script couldn't confirm the pile quantities were shown.
    • Weather: none of the captured views had rain, so the rain and snowfall effects were never seen in a screenshot.
    • Untested: I didn't re-run the full backend suite (no backend file changed), and Safari, real devices and real wallets weren't tested.
    • Ruins: foundation and ruin look similar at far zoom.
    • Speed: headless timings were mixed. Desktop draw time fell (6.3 ms median vs 11.6 m

Wrote .imd-findings.json with two advisory findings:

    • Medium: completed cottages show smoke when no fires exist.
    • Low: the “complete” contact sheet omits runtime variants.

No critical/high findings. Export rebuild matched exactly; typecheck, frontend tests, wallet checks, and desktop/mobile browser checks passed.

    • mediumCompleted shelters display smoke without an actual fireweb/src/expanse/storybook.ts:311

The hosted application (dist/assets/index-BkRzQNfM.js, rendered by dist/index.html) paints chimney smoke whenever a cottage is complete. The same gate appears for cold/coastal cottages. Neither shelterKey nor paintShelter receives a fire or fuel state, so smoke persists in worlds with no fires.

This contradicts the requested accurate state-to-art mapping and makes unlit shelters appear to have working hearths. This is a presentation advisory, not a reason to block hosting.

Serve the committed dist with node web/scripts/preview.mjs 4173, open http://127.0.0.1:4173/preview/?demo=1 at 1440x900, and pause the demo after it opens.

At the default camera (24,24), completed gabled cottages emit painted smoke.

Open View world records: Fires is 0 (also summary.fires=0 and view.fires=[] in the seed-2 tick-12600 checkpoint and observed tick 12602 frame).

Expected: smoke only when authoritative nearby fire/fuel state supports it; actual: smoke is selected solely by stage === complete.

    • lowThe advertised complete contact sheet omits appearances used by the demoweb/src/expanse/ArtSheet.tsx:22

The hosted #art-sheet route in dist/index.html claims to show every environment cell, and ASSET-SOURCES.md identifies its labels as the source-to-render mapping. It renders only the 67 entries from catalogue(). Runtime nodeKey selects three tree variants (0, 1, 2), but catalogue lists only 0 and 1; it also samples rather than enumerates storage and construction combinations.

Consequently this advertised complete audit artifact leaves out actual shipped appearances. This is an advisory documentation/evidence defect, not a hosting blocker.

Serve dist with node web/scripts/preview.mjs 4173 and open http://127.0.0.1:4173/preview/#art-sheet.

Run [...document.querySelectorAll("figcaption")].some(e => e.textContent === "tree:forest:broadleaf:2") in the browser console: it returns false.

In the default seed-2 demo, tree t6 at tile (26,15) has 8 wood in the temperate biome; nodeKey("forest", "tree", "t6", 8) returns tree:forest:broadleaf:2, which the world renderer draws.

Expected: the advertised complete sheet includes this used cell (and other reachable variants), or accurately states that it is a representative selection; actual: the cell is absent while the page claims every cell.

  5. Adversarial reviewAgent #192found 2 medium, 2 low, 1 info

The review is complete and the findings file is written. Here is the summary.

Outcome. The fuel prerequisite fix, exact resource accounting, wallet tests and persistence hold up. The remaining defects are pile growth over longer unattended runs and two state-to-art mismatches in the renderer. Five findings are in .imd-findings.json, ranked by severity.

    What I verified as correct

    • Fuel gates are consistent across implementation, comment, CHAINS.md and tests. Ignition always requires a held stone, and the wood-only, flint-only, stone, and flint-plus-stone cases are separately tested and pass.
    • Resource accounting is exact. Holdings matched expected totals at every 1000-tick sample through tick 9000 for seeds 7 and 19, with no negative or fractional pile stock.
    • Persistence is exact. The copied-fixture save, load, backup and mid-run restart test passes with a full-state deep equality.
    • Wallet tests are robust under load. All 47 auth, client, crosscheck and deadline tests passed while four CPU-hog processes ran on a six-core machine. Auth checks were not weakened.
    • README checkpoint counts match the demo manifest, and the relative evidence links in README and the storybook docs resolve.

    Findings, by severity

    • Medium, pile growth is not bounded. Seed 19 reaches 86 ground piles at tick 6000 and 134 at tick 9000. Seed 7 reaches 94 at tick 8000. The multi-seed test only samples to tick 3500, so it passes while the bound it claims is crossed soon after. Most new piles come from fuel placement steps, and over half hold a single unit.
    • Medium, smoke without fire. Completed shelters always paint chimney smoke. The demo checkpoint has zero fires yet cottages smoke. This confirms the earlier site-content finding.
    • Low, striker declared consumed but kept. The strike-on-pile affordance lists the stone as consumed, but execution keeps it. The planner therefore cannot plan a retry after a failed spark, which feeds the scattered-fuel growth.
    • Low, contact sheet incomplete. Tree variant 2 is rendered in the world but absent from the sheet that claims every cell. This confirms the earlier art-sheet finding.
    • Info, tautological ignition expression. The flint clause in the placement gate has no effect.

Not verified. I did not run the frontend test suite, typecheck or build, because the web dependencies are not installed on this machine and installing them would not have fit the time budget. The full backend suite was also not rerun end to end. I ran the chains, multi-seed, persistence and all wallet suites directly, and those passed.

    • mediumGround piles keep growing in unattended runs; the multi-seed bound only samples to tick 3500 while the same seeds pass it shortly afterserver/src/expanse/engine.js:324

Fuel placement onto open ground is still offered whenever the resident is cold or holds cookable food and carries a stone (canStartHere && canIgnite). The follow-up strike has only a 35% success chance with a plain stone (25% of that when wet), and nothing in the affordance set returns the resident to the placed fuel afterwards, so wood is left on the ground as single-unit piles. Pile count grows roughly linearly with population instead of staying bounded.

Accounting (holdings vs expectedHoldings) stays exact throughout; this is a growth-bound defect, not a ledger defect. tests/chains-multiseed.test.js asserts piles < 80 only through tick 3500, so the test passes while the bound it claims is crossed shortly afterwards.

      Expanse.create({ initialCount: 40 }, { seed: 19 }).run(6000): 86 ground piles (56 hold a single unit, 31 of those a single wood), 91 residents; by tick 9000 134 piles, 304 units.

      Seed 7: 94 piles at tick 8000, 117 at 9000.

      Attributing new piles by wrapping dropToPile: seed 19 to tick 6000 creates 222 piles, 52 from drops (deaths/harvest/smother) and 170 from place steps; totals.placed = {wood:239, stick:45, fiber:54, bundle:23} versus hauled.wood = 96.

Expected: pile count bounded (the test and README treat < 80 as the bound); actual: the bound is exceeded at tick 6000 (seed 19) and tick 8000 (seed 7) with the same unattended settings the test uses.

    • mediumCompleted shelters are painted with chimney smoke regardless of any fire stateweb/src/expanse/storybook.ts:311

Smoke is selected solely by stage === "complete" (same gate on lines 337 and 352 for cold and desert cottages). shelterKey(region, id, stage) at line 436 receives no fire or fuel input, so the renderer cannot derive smoke from world state. This contradicts the requirement that animation and props reflect actual state: a world with zero fires shows every finished cottage with a working hearth.

Serve dist with node web/scripts/preview.mjs 4173, open http://127.0.0.1:4173/preview/?demo=1 at 1440x900 at the default camera.

The shipped seed-2 tick-12600 checkpoint reports fires: 0 (web/public/demo/agency-manifest.json summary.fires = 0, and View world records shows Fires 0), yet completed gabled cottages emit painted smoke.

Expected: smoke only when an authoritative fire exists at or beside the shelter (view.fires / fireState); actual: smoke whenever the shelter is complete.

    • lowPile strike affordance declares the striker consumed, but execution keeps it; planner prediction diverges from the engineserver/src/expanse/engine.js:328

The use@pile step is offered with consumes: [it] (stone or flint). The ignition branch (lines 784-803) never calls takeItem for the striker, so the held stone survives. agent.js applyPred (line 89) subtracts consumes when predicting inventory, so inside one plan the stone is predicted gone after the first strike and a second strike cannot be planned even though a plain-stone spark fails 65% of the time.

The resident replans away, which feeds the scattered-fuel growth in the first finding. The ledger is unaffected because the striker is neither removed nor counted.

      Expanse.create({ initialCount: 4 }, { seed: 3 }); c = creatures[0]; c.inventory = { wood: 1, stone: 1 }; c.warmth = 50; e.dropToPile(c.x, c.y, "stick", 1). affordances(c, perceive(c))(c.inventory, null) contains { prim: "use", item: "stone", on: "pile", consumes: ["stone"] }.

      Executing it via startStep/stepAct leaves c.inventory = { wood: 1, stone: 1 }.

Expected: consumes matches execution (either [] for a striker, or the engine consumes it); actual: declared consumption of stone that never happens.

    • lowContact sheet advertised as every environment cell omits tree variant 2 that the world renderer usesweb/src/expanse/storybook.ts:452

nodeKey (line 427-428) selects tree variant stableHash(id) % 3, producing variants 0, 1 and 2, but catalogue() enumerates only [0, 1] for trees. ArtSheet.tsx states the page shows every environment cell and ASSET-SOURCES.md points to it as the source-to-render mapping, so the shipped evidence is incomplete.

Open http://127.0.0.1:4173/preview/#art-sheet after node web/scripts/preview.mjs 4173 and run [...document.querySelectorAll("figcaption")].some(e => e.textContent === "tree:forest:broadleaf:2") in the console: false. nodeKey("forest", "tree", "t6", 8) returns key tree:forest:broadleaf:2 for the seed-2 demo tree at tile (26,15). Expected: the sheet lists every reachable cell or states it is a sample; actual: variant 2 cells are absent while the page claims completeness.

    • infocanIgnite expression is tautological; flint never changes the placement gateserver/src/expanse/engine.js:321

(!!inv.flint && !!inv.stone) || !!inv.stone reduces to !!inv.stone. Behaviour matches CHAINS.md ("held stone, optionally flint") and the tests, so this is a readability note only: the first clause suggests flint participates in the gate when it does not.

For inv = { wood: 1, flint: 1 } the gate is false; for inv = { wood: 1, stone: 1 } and inv = { wood: 1, flint: 1, stone: 1 } it is true. The flint term can be deleted with no behaviour change.

Revision needed. Saved five verified findings in .imd-findings.json: 2 high, 1 medium, 2 low.

    • High — fidelity: Flat circular crowns and triangular conifers still clash with the shaded Stratoks. Rework foliage volume, texture and edges into the same rendering language.
    • High — fidelity: Current running-world recordings are absent. Desktop captures labeled 1440px are actually 960×600. Supply current recordings and original, unresized screenshots.
    • Medium — fidelity: Completed cottages emit smoke while authoritative fire records report zero fires. Remove smoke unless supported by actual state.
    • Low — fidelity: The “every environment cell” sheet omits shipped variants, including tree:forest:broadleaf:2.
    • Low — fidelity: Asset provenance describes deterministic generation but omits immutable source versions or hashes.

The intended visual idea is clear: autonomous golden sprout residents inhabiting one isometric storybook village. The working sample delivers the simulation; its vegetation still misses the requested cohesion.

    • highfidelity: flat circle crowns and triangle conifers retain the rejected style clashweb/src/expanse/storybook.ts:71

Now: Broadleaf crowns are outlined circles filled with three solid green passes and circular spots; conifers are stacked scalloped triangles. The retained residents are richly shaded raster sprites. Viewed together, the vegetation still reads as primitive vector cutouts beside dimensional characters, despite the shared palette. ART-DIRECTION.md:3 explicitly says official reference screenshots were not studied.

Change to: Rework crown(), conifer() and matching shrub treatment in the existing painter into irregular, overlapping foliage masses with continuous upper-left volume shading, material texture at the same detail frequency as the cottages, and softer integrated edges; adjust the resident edge treatment to match. Study and document the official reference shots before recapturing the same fixture/camera. Preserve terrain, entity positions, species, functions and renderer.

Why: The brief expressly requires eliminating the clash between detailed sprites and flat vector trees and says recoloring alone is insufficient. The requested Fabledom-inspired material cohesion remains missing; a common palette does not resolve incompatible rendering treatments.

At 1440×900 open /preview/?demo=1, wait for Isolated demo and Pause demo at seed 2 tick 12600, default camera (24,24), span 22.

Compare the broadleaf grove in the upper-right to the golden resident at the roundhouse near (880,500) screen pixels.

Click Zoom in three times (span about 12.73): leaf highlights remain hard circular dots and conifers remain repeated triangular bands while resident faces/hands have smooth highlights and deep soft shading.

On the default screenshot tree t6 at (26,15), among others, uses this painter; the live sheet shows the same treatment under Trees forest.

Source lines 70–73 execute outline/shadow/body/highlight as flat blob passes; lines 86–93 build conifers from tier polygons.

Compare volume and material handling with the official Fabledom screenshot https://shared.akamai.steamstatic.com/store_item_assets/steam/apps/1651560/ss_0a35c9943e990dfd6df0f6ebdd1d0b9cc8ceb28d.1920x1080.jpg .

Expected one coherent material/rendering language; actual two visibly different languages persist.

    • highfidelity: current recordings and unedited full-size screenshots are missingdocs/storybook/VALIDATION.md:69

Now: The new storybook evidence contains JPG stills and JSON measurements but no running-world recording; validation explicitly confirms this. All 1440px screenshots have been downscaled to 960px. The retained artifacts/agency-interface/phone-tour.webm predates the storybook renderer.

Change to: Retain the original, unresized screenshots and unedited running-world captures of this final export at 1440px and 390px, covering the same checkpoint/cameras at close, mid and far zoom plus cold/desert views; link them with reproducible launch/camera steps in the validation.

Why: Acceptance asks for unedited screenshots, a reproducible animated sample and a published running-world capture. Resized stills and an older revision's phone tour cannot supply that evidence for the current art, motion and HUD together.

At 1440×900 and 390×844 launch /preview/?demo=1 and confirm residents move, proving the runtime can supply the capture.

Inspect docs/storybook/VALIDATION.md:24–32: every current visual capture is a JPG still, and line 69 confirms no running-world video.

      Enumerating docs/storybook gives 0 .webm/.mp4/.gif files (32 files total). file docs/storybook/after-1440-mid.jpg and before-1440-mid.jpg both report 960×600, not 1440×900; line 20 documents the 2/3 resizing.

The linked agency-interface phone tour shows the earlier artwork.

Expected original-size unedited screenshots and current running-world recordings at both required widths; actual only resized desktop stills, phone stills and a historical video are delivered.

    • mediumfidelity: completed cottages emit smoke when the world has no firesweb/src/expanse/storybook.ts:311

Now: Forest, cold and coastal cottages paint chimney smoke whenever the shelter stage is complete; no fire or fuel state reaches paintShelter.

Change to: Remove the smoke from completed shelter cells, or include an authoritative lit-hearth flag in the cell key and paint smoke only when that state supports it.

Why: The brief requires honest state-to-art mapping and binding work areas to actual existing functions; an intact roof is not evidence of a working fire.

At 1440×900 serve dist with node web/scripts/preview.mjs 4187 and open /preview/?demo=1.

Wait for Isolated demo, then Pause demo; retain the default camera (24,24), span 22.

The forest gabled cottages visibly emit three pale smoke puffs.

Open View world records: Fires is 0.

Reading the same paused frame gives summary.fires=0 and view.fires=[].

The initial seed-2 tick-12600 checkpoint also has zero fires.

Expected no smoke without authoritative burning fuel; actual smoke is gated only by stage === "complete".

The same gate occurs at lines 337 and 352.

    • lowfidelity: the contact sheet claims completeness but omits shipped variantsweb/src/expanse/ArtSheet.tsx:22

Now: The sheet advertises every environment cell, but catalogue() enumerates only 67 examples: tree crown 2 and many reachable storage/state combinations are absent. ASSET-SOURCES.md presents these labels as the source-to-render mapping.

Change to: Enumerate every reachable key from the same variant domains used by nodeKey/storeKey/shelterKey, or label the sheet "Representative environment cells" and document the full mapping separately.

Why: The brief asks for asset/contact sheets and source-to-render mapping that make the delivered appearances independently auditable.

      At 1440×900 open /preview/?demo=1#art-sheet. document.querySelectorAll("figcaption").length returns 67; [...document.querySelectorAll("figcaption")].some(e=>e.textContent==="tree:forest:broadleaf:2") returns false.

In the shipped seed-2 default viewport the live tree node t6 at (26,15) has 8 units; nodeKey("forest","tree","t6",8) produces tree:forest:broadleaf:2 because stableHash(id)%3 includes 2 (storybook.ts:427–428), while catalogue uses only [0,1] at line 452.

Expected that shipped key in a sheet claiming every cell; actual it is absent.

    • lowfidelity: the asset manifest does not identify reproducible source versionsASSET-SOURCES.md:7

Now: The environment row's Version / hash field says only "Deterministic from source"; the retained character row says "unchanged". Neither identifies the source revision or a content hash, so the manifest cannot distinguish this painter/atlas from a later edit.

Change to: Record a SHA-256 or immutable repository revision for storybook.ts and the shipped character atlas, and link the existing source manifests for retained artwork. Keep creator, MIT license and modification notes alongside those identifiers.

Why: The brief explicitly asks ASSET-SOURCES.md to record exact source, creator, version/hash, license and modifications; deterministic generation is not a version identifier.

At 1440×900 open /preview/#art-sheet and then inspect ASSET-SOURCES.md in the repository.

Read the two shipped-asset rows at lines 7–8: the Version / hash cells contain no version, revision or hash, only "Deterministic from source..." and "unchanged". sha256sum web/src/expanse/storybook.ts web/public/art/living-characters.webp computes concrete identifiers, but neither is recorded or linked in those rows.

Expected pinned identifiers for the exact sheet/runtime assets; actual unversioned descriptions.

  10. Adversarial reviewAgent #1767found 1 medium

Of the five findings from last round, four are fixed. The fifth, pile growth, still reproduces, and the author now documents it as unresolved. That is the only entry in .imd-findings.json. I found no new defects I could reproduce.

    Settled

    Earlier findingResult
[low] The strike-on-pile step said it used up the stone or flint, but the engine kept itFixed. The step now declares that nothing is consumed (server/src/expanse/engine.js:328), which matches what the engine does. The new regression tests pass.
[info] The fire-start check had a redundant flint clause that never matteredFixed. It is now just "holds a stone" (engine.js:321). The separate wood-only, flint-only, stone and stone-plus-flint cases are still tested.
[medium] Every finished cottage showed chimney smoke, even with no fire anywhereFixed. A cottage now smokes only if it is finished, has a chimney, and a fire with fuel left sits on or next to its tile (worldRenderer.ts:265, storybook.ts:583). The fire positions and fuel come from the server's view (view.js:29-30). Tests cover the no-fire, empty-fire and damaged-roof cases.
[low] The contact sheet claimed to show every art cell but left out tree variant 2Fixed. catalogue() now builds its list with the same functions the world renderer uses, over 240 ids, so all three tree variants appear.

Still open: unattended runs keep piling up fuel (medium), engine.js:324

I re-ran it on the final tree with seed 7 and 40 starting residents:

    TickGround pilesSingle-unit pilesResidents
    6000704372
    7000824790
    80009961102

There were 0 or 1 fires burning at those points. The resource ledger matched exactly every time, so nothing is lost or duplicated. The problem is that fuel gets left on the ground: residents still drop wood on open ground when they hold a stone, a plain-stone strike succeeds only 35% of the time, and nothing sends them back to the wood afterwards. The author's own data shows 91 of the 117 piles at seed 7, tick 9000 came from this placement rather than from deaths or harvests.

The author agrees the 80-pile limit is crossed and doesn't claim a fix, so I'm not disputing their numbers. I kept the finding open for two reasons:

    • The task asks for bounded pile growth in unattended multi-seed runs.
    • tests/chains-multiseed.test.js only enforces the limit up to tick 3500, while its run to tick 9000 merely records the counts. A green test therefore still hides the scattered fuel, which the task explicitly says it must not do.

Fixing it needs your decision on approach: have residents return to the fuel they placed, tighten when placing is allowed, or document a growth model. A silent cap or deleting stock would break the requirement to preserve stocks.

    What I ran

    • Fuel, wallet and save/load tests: tests/chains.test.js, review-regressions, the three wallet suites and durability all pass, 66/66 with 4 tests running in parallel. That parallel load gave a little evidence on the wallet timing robustness the task asks for. I found no failures.
    • Not run: the full 268-test backend suite, the frontend tests and the browser checks. No dependencies were installed (the server has no lockfile), and time was short.
    • Docs: the README's storybook section correctly scopes its "40/40" to the chain and wallet subset. The validation doc says plainly that the full backend suite was not re-run for that change.

    • mediumUnattended runs still scatter abandoned fuel; ground-pile count grows without bound past the 3500-tick window the test checks (acknowledged, unresolved)server/src/expanse/engine.js:324

This is carried over from the previous round. The author reproduced it and documents it as unresolved (docs/maintenance/revision/VALIDATION.md, 'Longer pile growth — reproduced, unresolved'). Placing fuel on open ground is still offered whenever canStartHere && canIgnite (a held stone).

A plain-stone strike succeeds only 35% of the time, and no affordance brings the resident back to fuel it already placed. So single-unit fuel piles are left behind and the pile count grows with population.

Ledgers stay exact: holdings equal expectedHoldings at every sample. This is a growth and scattering defect, not an accounting one. The task asks for 'bounded pile growth in unattended multi-seed runs' and says a green test must not hide scattered fuel. tests/chains-multiseed.test.js still only asserts piles < 80 for tick <= 3500.

Later samples are recorded as diagnostics and never asserted, so the suite stays green while the growth continues. The revision's own raw data shows that 91 of the 117 surviving piles at seed 7, tick 9000 came from placement, not from drops. The striker-consumption fix did not change this.

The finding stays open as an incomplete requirement, not as a ledger bug. Fixing it needs an owner scope decision: return-to-placed-fuel, a stricter placement gate, or a documented growth model. Silently capping or deleting stock is not acceptable.

      Run on the final tree: e = Expanse.create({ initialCount: 40 }, { seed: 7 }), then e.run(1000) eight times, counting chunk.piles after each run.

      Measured: tick 1000: 18 piles (9 single-unit); 3000: 38; 5000: 58; 6000: 70; 7000: 82 (47 single-unit, 90 residents); 8000: 99 piles (61 single-unit, 102 residents).

Live fires at those samples: 0 or 1.

Expected: pile count stays bounded (under the < 80 the test and README use) in an unattended run, or the bound is asserted over the full horizon the test runs.

Actual: 80 is crossed at tick 7000 and growth stays roughly linear, while tests/chains-multiseed.test.js passes because it only asserts through tick 3500.

Three prior findings are fixed. Final evidence remains incomplete. Findings and exact reproductions are saved in .imd-findings.json.

    Prior findingResolution
fidelity: primitive vegetationFixed visually. At 1440px, camera (24,24), spans 22 and 12.73, foliage now has irregular edges, texture and continuous shading. Reference-study documentation remains incomplete.
fidelity: missing final capturesHigh, retained. The combined tree contains the disputed files: 32 storybook files, zero recordings, and desktop JPGs measuring 960×600. Capture the final export unedited at both required widths and cameras. The author’s absence claim correctly describes its incoming backend branch, not this combined revision.
fidelity: smoke without firesFixed. At tick 12,600, Fires is 0 and cottages show no smoke. Rendering now requires an authoritative nearby burning fire.
fidelity: incomplete contact sheetFixed. The browser renders 189 keys, including tree:forest:broadleaf:2; coverage tests pass.
fidelity: missing asset versionsLow, retained. ASSET-SOURCES.md:7–8 still says “Deterministic from source” and “unchanged”. Record immutable hashes and replace the obsolete 67-cell count.

Verification passed: 268 backend tests, 65 frontend tests, 50 wallet/auth regressions, 11 focused fuel/persistence tests, typecheck and build. Counts overlap. Chromium passed desktop/mobile interactions; WebKit passed at 390px. Residents advanced, inspectors and resource quantities worked, and camera travel reached cold, desert and coastal views. Rebuilt application and worker bytes match the committed export. No final test failed; application files are unchanged.

Now: The combined revision contains the cited storybook directory, but it still has no running-world video; desktop evidence remains resized 960×600 JPGs from before the latest foliage revision. Why: The brief explicitly requires unedited screenshots, a reproducible animated sample and published running-world capture of the functioning final art. Historical video and older, resized stills cannot verify that delivery.

At widths 1440 and 390, serve the committed dist using node web/scripts/preview.mjs 4187 and open /preview/?demo=1.

The demo runs and Pause demo is available, so capture is possible.

      Re-run the author’s enumeration: docs/maintenance/revision/evidence-scope.json identifies incomingCommit 0f33730; git ls-tree -r --name-only 0f33730 docs/storybook returns no entries.

In the reviewed HEAD, docs/storybook has 32 files and zero .webm/.mp4/.gif files; the only repository videos are older agency/living-interface artifacts.

Read JPEG dimensions: before-1440-mid.jpg and after-1440-mid.jpg are both 960×600.

VALIDATION.md:20 explicitly documents 2/3 downscaling; line 69 confirms no video.

The after-report.json capture timestamp is 2026-11-01T08:18:19.632Z; the current foliage source was committed later in 5abcbdd.

Expected current original-size stills and running captures at both required widths; actual older resized stills only.

    • lowfidelity: shipped assets still lack immutable source identifiersASSET-SOURCES.md:7

Now: The environment row still gives “Deterministic from source” instead of a version/hash, and the character row says “unchanged”. The environment count also still describes the old 67-cell sheet.

Change to: Record SHA-256 hashes or immutable revisions for the final storybook.ts and living-characters.webp; retain source, creator, license and modification notes and update the cell count to the final 189-key catalogue.

Why: ASSET-SOURCES.md is explicitly required to identify exact versions/hashes; determinism does not identify which revision produced the shipped assets.

      At 1440×900 open /preview/?demo=1#art-sheet, then inspect ASSET-SOURCES.md:7–8.

The live sheet renders 189 figcaptions, including tree:forest:broadleaf:2, while the manifest still states 67 keys.

Both Version / hash entries remain unversioned.

      Run sha256sum web/src/expanse/storybook.ts web/public/art/living-characters.webp: current hashes are cd37d28c959b125c2288e356010bbc3cba8ba859fa991490126876ca38ec1202 and 80d4d8b0473961438a5c0fa00685eeed516345ddf629401861eb0ed4c1389841.

Neither is recorded or linked by those rows.

Expected immutable identifiers for the delivered painter and atlas; actual descriptive placeholders.

Recorded both findings in .imd-responses.json with supporting validation.

    • Final storybook artwork is absent from this checkout; capture remains incomplete.
    • Long-run scattering reproduced: 113 piles at tick 9,000, with exact accounting. Remains unresolved; gameplay unchanged.
    • Checks passed: 268 backend tests and 50 wallet/auth regressions.

    • mediumHosted atlas manifest omits active terrain and farming assetsdist/art/manifest.json:10

The published manifest ends its sheet inventory after characters/world and has no agency.kneel sprite. The actual bundled client uses web/src/expanse/atlas.json, which additionally loads agency-terrain.webp and agency-activities.webp and maps the kneeling resident to the latter.

The shipped source-to-render contract therefore cannot identify or reproduce two active assets, contrary to docs/art/INTEGRATION.md stating that the public manifest is identical to the runtime manifest. web/public/art/manifest.json has the same omission, so a normal rebuild preserves it. This is an advisory provenance/mapping defect, not evidence of unauthorized artwork.

      From the repository root run: python3 -c 'import json; a=json.load(open("web/src/expanse/atlas.json")); b=json.load(open("dist/art/manifest.json")); print(sorted(set(a["sheets"])-set(b["sheets"]))); print(sorted(set(a["sprites"])-set(b["sprites"])))'.

Expected both lists empty; actual ["agencyActivities", "agencyTerrain"] and ["agency.kneel"].

Serve dist/ and inspect /art/manifest.json: neither downloaded agency WebP has a sheet entry or sprite/source mapping there.

    • lowResource-selection screenshots listed as delivered evidence are missingdocs/storybook/after-report.json:9

The storybook capture report lists after-1440-resource-selected.jpg and after-390-resource-selected.jpg, but neither file exists in docs/storybook/. The before report also lists four absent selection screenshots. The validation page links these reports as raw evidence for resource selection, so a reviewer cannot inspect the claimed quantity displays or compare the same before/after interaction.

This affects the evidence package, not the working static page. Include the actual captures or explicitly mark these report entries as unavailable.

      From the repository root run: python3 -c 'import json,pathlib; p=pathlib.Path("docs/storybook/after-report.json"); print([s for s in json.loads(p.read_text())["shots"] if not (p.parent/s).is_file()])'.

Expected [] for a report of delivered shots; actual ["after-1440-resource-selected.jpg", "after-390-resource-selected.jpg"].

Opening either listed path from the report fails because the files are absent.

  15. Adversarial reviewAgent #641found 2 medium, 1 low, 1 info

The review is complete and the findings file is written. Nothing in the tree was modified apart from .imd-findings.json.

My prior finding stands, unfixed, and the author agrees. Re-running the exact seed-7 recipe on this tree gives the same numbers as last round, so the dispute is only about scope, not about the facts.

    tickpilessingle-unitresidentsledger mismatches
    1000189400
    50005839670
    70008247900
    9000113591150

The placement gate at server/src/expanse/engine.js:324 is unchanged, and the multi-seed test still asserts the 80-pile bound only through tick 3500. Accounting is exact at every sample. This remains an incomplete requirement rather than a ledger bug, and it needs an owner decision on policy. I kept it at medium.

Both specialist findings reproduce and are kept, merged into my list:

    • Medium: shipped atlas manifest is incomplete. The published manifest in dist and web/public omits the two agency sheets and the kneel sprite that the runtime manifest declares and the bundle loads. The integration doc's claim that the two manifests are identical is false.
    • Low: missing resource-selection screenshots. The after-report lists two selection captures that do not exist, and the storybook validation page cites that report as its evidence for quantity display.

One new info-level note. The README reports 63 frontend tests, while every frontend test file on this tree now yields 65 passed. Not a behavioral defect, but task item 4 asks for stale counts to be corrected.

Everything else I checked passed. Backend suite 268/268 at concurrency 2. Wallet and auth suite 50/50 at concurrency 8 while a 9000-tick simulation ran alongside. Frontend 65/65. The wood-only and wood-plus-ignition fuel cases, persistence load/save/restart tests and striker regressions are all in the passing backend run.

    • mediumUnattended runs still scatter abandoned fuel; ground-pile count grows without bound past the 3500-tick window the test checks (carried over, author concedes unresolved)server/src/expanse/engine.js:324

Status: NOT FIXED, confirmed again on this tree. The author's response does not dispute the defect; it disputes adding a new placement/retry policy in a maintenance revision and documents the requirement as incomplete (docs/maintenance/review-followup/VALIDATION.md, 'Long-run piles: observation confirmed, behavior retained').

The code at this line is unchanged: a resident may place fuel on open ground whenever canStartHere && canIgnite (any held stone), a plain-stone strike succeeds only part of the time, and no affordance returns the resident to fuel it already placed, so single-unit piles accumulate roughly linearly with population. tests/chains-multiseed.test.js line 29 still asserts piles < 80 only for tick <= 3500 and records later samples as unasserted diagnostics, so the suite is green (268/268 backend here) while growth continues past the bound.

Item ledgers remain exact at every sample, so this is a growth/scattering requirement failure, not an accounting bug. Resolving it requires an owner scope decision (return-to-placed-fuel, stricter placement gate, or a documented and tested growth model); capping or deleting stock is not acceptable. It stays open as an incomplete requirement of task item 4 ('bounded pile growth in unattended multi-seed runs'; 'a green test does not hide scattered fuel').

      On this tree with Node 22: const { Expanse, expectedHoldings } = await import('./server/src/expanse/engine.js'); const e = Expanse.create({ initialCount: 40 }, { seed: 7 }); then e.run(1000) nine times, counting chunk.piles and single-unit piles after each.

      Measured this round: tick 1000: 18 piles (9 single); 3000: 38 (24); 5000: 58 (39); 7000: 82 (47, 90 residents); 8000: 99 (61, 102 residents); 9000: 113 (59, 115 residents); live fires 0 at every sample; ledger mismatches 0 at every sample.

Expected: pile count stays bounded (under the < 80 the test and README use) over the horizon the test runs, or the bound is asserted over that horizon.

Actual: 80 is crossed at tick 7000 and growth stays linear; node --test tests/chains-multiseed.test.js passes because the bound is only asserted through tick 3500.

    • mediumShipped atlas manifest omits two active sheets and the agency.kneel sprite, contradicting the stated identity with the runtime manifestdist/art/manifest.json:10

The published source-to-render contract (dist/art/manifest.json, and web/public/art/manifest.json from which it is built) lists sheets model, characters and world only. The runtime manifest the bundled client actually uses (web/src/expanse/atlas.json) also declares agencyTerrain (agency-terrain.webp, 160x64) and agencyActivities (agency-activities.webp, 209x250) and maps the kneeling resident sprite agency.kneel to the latter.

Both WebP files are shipped in dist/art/ and referenced from dist/assets/index-*.js, so they are live assets with no sheet entry, rectangle, pivot or hash in the published mapping. docs/art/INTEGRATION.md line 3 states that web/public/art/manifest.json is 'identical to web/src/expanse/atlas.json', which is false on this tree. This is a provenance/mapping gap in the acceptance evidence required by task item 5 ('source-to-render mapping'), not evidence of unlicensed art.

Fix: regenerate the public manifest from atlas.json (or document the two sheets and the kneel sprite there) and correct the INTEGRATION.md claim.

      From the repository root: python3 -I -c 'import json; a=json.load(open("web/src/expanse/atlas.json")); b=json.load(open("dist/art/manifest.json")); print(sorted(set(a["sheets"])-set(b["sheets"]))); print(sorted(set(a["sprites"])-set(b["sprites"])))'.

      Expected: [] and [].

      Actual: ['agencyActivities', 'agencyTerrain'] and ['agency.kneel'].

Same result against web/public/art/manifest.json. grep -l agency-terrain.webp dist/assets/*.js shows the bundle loads the unlisted sheet.

    • lowStorybook capture report lists resource-selection screenshots that are not in the treedocs/storybook/after-report.json:9

docs/storybook/after-report.json lists after-1440-resource-selected.jpg and after-390-resource-selected.jpg among the delivered shots, and before-report.json lists further selection shots, but none of those files exist in docs/storybook/. docs/storybook/VALIDATION.md links both reports as the raw evidence for resource selection (line 32) and states a wood-pile group was selected at both widths with quantities shown at 1440 (line 50).

A reviewer therefore cannot inspect the claimed quantity display or compare the same before/after interaction; the resource-selection claim is unverifiable from the package. Evidence-package defect only; the static preview itself was not affected.

Fix: add the captures or mark these report entries as unavailable and adjust the VALIDATION text.

      From the repository root: python3 -I -c 'import json,pathlib; p=pathlib.Path("docs/storybook/after-report.json"); print([s for s in json.loads(p.read_text())["shots"] if not (p.parent/s).is_file()])'.

      Expected: [].

      Actual: ['after-1440-resource-selected.jpg', 'after-390-resource-selected.jpg'].

Opening either path linked via the report fails because the file is absent.

    • infoREADME frontend test count is stale against the current treeREADME.md:29

README line 29 reports '63/63 frontend tests' for the storybook change. Running every frontend test file on this tree (13 files under web/src, including web/src/expanse/.test.ts) yields 65 passed, 0 failed; the default package script (tsx --test src/.test.ts) runs only 38 because it does not glob nested files, which docs/maintenance/VALIDATION.md line 16 already notes.

Not a behavioral defect; task item 4 asks for stale README counts to be corrected, so the number should be refreshed or labelled as historical.

      cd web && npx tsx --test $(find src -name '*.test.ts') prints '# tests 65 / # pass 65'; npm test prints '# tests 38'. README.md line 29 says 63/63.

    Saved two findings in .imd-findings.json.

    • High — fidelity: final capture evidence remains missing. The current combined checkout contains the cited storybook directory. Its desktop stills are 960×600, predate the final foliage revision, and have no accompanying final recording. Six listed selection screenshots are absent. Capture the final export at 1440×900 and 390×844, retain the requested views and recordings, and refresh the reports. The author’s component-scope explanation is valid for that earlier checkout; it does not close the combined-delivery gap.
    • Medium — fidelity: the public atlas manifest omits active assets. Both public/exported manifests omit agencyTerrain, agencyActivities and agency.kneel, although the browser loads both sheets successfully. Synchronize the public contract with the runtime atlas and retain their source mappings.

The previous asset-identifier finding is fixed: both SHA-256 values match, and the live sheet renders 189 unique keys. The specialist’s missing-screenshot finding is included in the capture finding above.

    • highfidelity: final running-world recordings and original-size evidence remain missingdocs/storybook/VALIDATION.md:69

Now: The current combined tree contains docs/storybook, but its stills predate the final foliage revision and there is no final running-world video. Desktop before/after mid images are 960×600 rather than 1440×900; raw reports also list six absent selection screenshots. The backend contributor correctly describes its isolated component, but that response does not close this gap in the combined delivery.

Change to: Publish current, unedited 1440×900 and 390×844 stills and running-world recordings from the same checkpoint/cameras, covering close/mid/far and cold/desert views; include the listed selection shots or mark them unavailable, and update the reports and reproducible capture steps.

Why: The brief requires original-size unedited screenshots, reproducible animated samples, running-world capture and same-fixture before/after evidence for the final functioning art.

      At 1440×900 and 390×844, run node web/scripts/preview.mjs 4187 and open /preview/?demo=1.

The Chromium demo advances (observed tick 12602→12608/12609), supports Pause demo, resident inspection, zoom and minimap travel to cold/arid/coast, so a functioning final export is available to capture.

From the repository root, git ls-tree -r --name-only HEAD docs/storybook lists 32 files with no .webm/.mp4/.gif; the four tracked repository videos are older agency/living-interface artifacts.

Parse JPEG SOF dimensions: before-1440-mid.jpg and after-1440-mid.jpg are both 960×600, while VALIDATION.md:20 states 2/3 downscaling.

For before-report.json and after-report.json compare every shots entry with a file in docs/storybook: four before and two after selection captures are absent. after-report.json dates the shots 2026-11-01T08:18:19.632Z; git log for storybook.ts shows the foliage revision 5abcbdd at 09:46:08Z.

Re-run the author's enumeration against current combined HEAD 8c949005730ae77c8a4f95971e8cf9fae85c1cdc: this directory exists and git cat-file -t 5abcbdd returns commit.

The author's absent-files observation applies to their a45bf2c component.

Expected final full-size stills and recordings at both widths; actual older resized stills and no final video.

    • mediumfidelity: public atlas manifest omits active terrain and farming assetsweb/public/art/manifest.json:10

Now: The public atlas contract inventories only characters and world; the runtime atlas additionally loads agencyTerrain and agencyActivities and defines agency.kneel. dist/art/manifest.json repeats the omission, despite docs/art/INTEGRATION.md claiming equality with the runtime manifest.

Change to: Synchronize web/public/art/manifest.json with web/src/expanse/atlas.json, preserving the two active sheets, kneeling sprite and their source/license mappings, then refresh the exported manifest.

Why: The brief requires source-to-render mapping for delivered active artwork. The current public contract cannot identify the terrain and farming assets it ships.

At 1440×900 (also reproduced at 390×844), serve dist with node web/scripts/preview.mjs 4187 and open /preview/?demo=1.

Browser responses load agency-terrain.webp and agency-activities.webp with HTTP 200; web/src/expanse/art.tsx loads all runtime atlas sheets, ground.ts uses agencyTerrain, and appearance.ts maps farming to agency.kneel.

Parse web/src/expanse/atlas.json and web/public/art/manifest.json or dist/art/manifest.json: sorted(set(runtime["sheets"])-set(public["sheets"])) returns ["agencyActivities", "agencyTerrain"], and the equivalent sprites difference returns ["agency.kneel"].

Fetch /preview/art/manifest.json and observe the same omissions.

Expected empty differences per docs/art/INTEGRATION.md:3; actual two missing sheets and one missing sprite.
