Build an original, polished browser game for the Pepe2Pepe arcade.

My game name: PEPE Ladder

My game idea: An endless vertical climb. Pepe hops up a ladder of lily pads that drift sideways, sink when stood on too long, or crumble after one touch. Each pad climbed adds to a glowing coin pot and raises a combo multiplier (x2, x3, x5...). At any moment the player can tap BANK to lock the pot into their score, which resets the multiplier to x1. Fall into the water before banking and the whole unbanked pot is lost. The higher you climb, the faster pads move and the bigger the multiplier gets, so every run is a "one more pad" gamble between banking now or risking it all. Near-misses show how close you were ("lost 4,200 — 1 pad from x10!"). Golden flies appear rarely and double the pot when caught. Runs last 30 to 90 seconds. After each run, show best score, best height and a daily streak counter that rewards playing every day.

My design: A cheerful illustrated night pond that gets more magical as you climb: teal water and green lily pads at the bottom, fireflies and a big yellow moon near the top. Pepe is an expressive cartoon frog who grins on a big combo and panics when a pad sinks. The pot is a glowing gold jar above Pepe's head that grows and shakes as it gets bigger. Green and teal, with warm yellow-gold for coins, the pot and the BANK button. Clear, readable hazards, and a satisfying coin burst when banking.

My UX: Desktop: left/right arrows or A/D to aim, Space or W to hop, B or Enter to BANK. Mobile: tap left or right side to hop that way, big BANK button at the bottom. Show score, current pot, multiplier and height at the top, always readable. Fast, snappy hops with no input lag. Rising tension music as the pot grows, and a tense heartbeat when the pot is big. P pauses. Restart takes one tap and starts instantly, with no menus between runs.

Read https://github.com/adaki2004/pepe2pepe-game-template/blob/main/AGENTS.md and INTEGRATION.md in that repository. You are the assigned Swarm build worker, not a coordinating agent: implement and test the game here. Do not open a nested paid job, wait for your own future hosting CID, or run the release helper inside this build.

Deliver a complete static dist/ export with index.html, pepe-game.json and an original cover image. Follow the pepe-browser-game/1 manifest and pepe-game/1 iframe bridge contract, use relative asset paths, and make the game work inside a sandbox without same-origin storage. Test keyboard and touch controls, pause, restart, game-over and audio gestures. Use original or properly licensed assets. Do not add wallets, payments or a login to the game.

Swarm publication provides the hosted website after this build finishes. Include clear gameplay instructions and test evidence in your result. The published release can then be submitted to Pepe2Pepe using the repository release helper outside this build; an admin reviews it before listing. Never claim approval or submission without its receipt.

Saved four findings to .imd-findings.json. Site files are unchanged.

    • High — bug: At 320×568, game over clips the record values and completely hides restart. Compact the result card.
    • Medium — bug: After clicking a control, Space/Enter can activate that control instead of hopping/banking. Return focus to the canvas after pointer activation.
    • Medium — taste: Four promotional taglines compete with “One more pad?”. Remove the extras and add a plain product description.
    • Low — taste: Six font weights exceed the three-weight bar. Consolidate the existing weights.

Each finding includes exact source citations, a proposed change and measured reproduction.

    • highbug: the game-over card hides restart on short mobile screenssrc/style.css:1396

Now: The result card is constrained to the short pond, while the mobile rule restores a 54px decorative frog. On a 320×568 screen its contents overflow by 125px and the record values and focused restart button are completely clipped at game over.

Change to: Add a compact result treatment at widths up to 540px and heights up to 650px: hide .in-run .result-frog, set .result-card h2 to var(--fs-lg), and set .result-score > strong to var(--fs-title). Keep the loss, score and records visible and keep the entire restart button within the card without scrolling; retain the existing larger layout elsewhere.

Why: The brief requires “Restart takes one tap and starts instantly, with no menus between runs.” A hidden primary recovery action is a broken mobile layout.

Chromium, 320×568, fresh browser storage: load dist/index.html, tap Hop in, tap Hop left, wait 680ms, tap BANK, then wait 5.5 seconds for the pad to sink.

      The score is 125 and New personal best is visible. #restart-button measures y=459.97..511.97 (52px high); .result-card measures y=98..428, clientHeight=328, scrollHeight=453 and scrollTop=0.

Its visible button height is 0px despite document.activeElement being restart-button.

The screenshot shows the Best score / Best height / Daily streak labels but clips their values and shows no restart action; a swipe inside the card is required before tapping.

At 390×568 only 27.42px of the 52px button is visible; at 390×844 all 52px are visible.

Expected: the complete restart action is visible and usable with one tap at game over.

A browser-only trial of the three proposed CSS changes restores a 52px visible restart button at both short widths, with card scrollHeight equal to clientHeight (328px at 320×568).

      No repository stylesheet was changed.

    • mediumtaste: four promotional taglines compete with the game’s opening lineindex.html:124

Now: The page repeats its playful pitch in “A little frog. A very big gamble.”, “Risk a little. Ribbit a lot.”, “Free to play. Just bring your nerve.” and “A bigger combo. A bigger decision.”; a pill slogan also sits immediately above “One more pad?”.

Change to: Keep “One more pad?” and the gameplay directions. Delete .intro-chip, .intro-hint and .combo-caption, allowing the intro heading/button to move up and the help card to shrink. Replace .page-heading p with “A frog-climbing game where you bank coins before you fall.”

Why: The copy bar asks for a distinctive short headline paired with one plain product description, no kicker label and fewer than four competing slogans.

At 390×844 and 1440×900, load dist/index.html without starting a run.

The opening subtitle, intro pill and post-button tagline appear together; at 1440 the combo caption is also on the first screen.

Run node .imd/reads/skills/design-critic/scripts/taste.mjs --out /tmp/pepe-review-taste --offline: eyebrows reports the intro-chip above “One more pad?”; slogans reports 10 matches.

Excluding duplicated hazard instructions leaves the four promotional lines quoted here.

Screenshots at both widths confirm them.

Expected: one memorable headline and a factual product line; actual: four separate pitch lines across the opening composition.

    • mediumbug: pointer-operated controls divert the next keyboard hopsrc/main.ts:231

Now: Clicking sound or a hop button leaves keyboard focus on that button. Arrow keys still change the game aim, but the keydown guard at lines 259–260 lets Space/Enter activate the focused button instead of the advertised game action. This can send Pepe in the opposite direction to the highlighted aim.

Change to: After a pointer-generated click (event.detail > 0) on sound, hop or bank during a run, return focus to canvas with canvas.focus({ preventScroll: true }). Keep the existing native Space/Enter behavior for buttons reached using Tab and retain the button guard.

Why: The brief promises arrows/A/D to aim and Space/W to hop, with snappy controls. Switching from an on-screen control to the keyboard must not silently reuse an old direction.

At 1440×900 in Chromium: click Hop in, click Hop left, wait 680ms until height=1 and pot=100, press ArrowRight, then Space.

Before Space, #hop-right has class aimed, #pad-status says “Next pad: right”, and document.activeElement.id is hop-left.

After Space and 680ms, height is still 1, the right aim is cleared, and status says “Quick!

Bank before the splash!”; after another second the result is “Lost 100 — 1 pad from ×2.” Expected: the aimed right hop lands at height 2 with pot 300.

A second reproduction is Hop in → click sound → ArrowLeft → Space: height stays 0 and sound toggles off instead of hopping.

Enter has the same failure: after landing on pad 1, click sound and press Enter; pot stays 100 and score stays 0 while sound toggles off, instead of banking 125.

    • lowtaste: six font weights add unnecessary steps to the type hierarchysrc/style.css:417

Now: The interface uses two families but six weights: 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900. Body copy, metadata, keyboard hints, headings and controls spread across several nearly identical emphasis levels.

Change to: Keep 400 for Lilita display text, 500 for Nunito body/supporting text and 800 for Nunito emphasis. Change Nunito 600 declarations to 500 and 700/900 declarations (including the kbd shorthand) to 800, reusing the existing fonts and sizes.

Why: The taste@1 type-faces bar allows at most three weights; the current six add distinctions that do not carry separate information.

At 390×844 and 1440×900, load the ready screen and run node .imd/reads/skills/design-critic/scripts/taste.mjs --out /tmp/pepe-review-taste --offline.

      The type-faces check reports “families (2): nunito, lilita” and “weights (6): 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900”.

Computed styles show 400 on the title, inherited 500 on copy, 600 on the arcade label/height unit, 700 on hints, 800 on scores and 900 on the primary control.

      Both screenshots confirm these roles.

Expected: no more than three weight levels using the existing typefaces.

  4. Build websiteAgent #192621 files changedsent back

Fixed all four findings: short-screen restart visibility, pointer-to-keyboard controls, competing taglines and excess font weights.

Rebuilt dist/ and wrote .imd-responses.json. Build, typecheck, 14 unit tests and 33 browser checks passed. Delivery size: 2.43 MiB.

Play with arrows/A/D to aim, Space/W to hop and B/Enter to bank. On mobile, tap either pond side and BANK.

Validation and screenshots. Physical devices and Safari/Firefox remain untested. Ready for Swarm publication; no release submission performed.

The round-one column for the probe was measured now by running the probe on the previous commit's export. The findings file .imd-findings.json holds two findings: one high, one low. No repository file was changed. Every measurement is Chromium; WebKit downloads but cannot launch on this host because its system libraries are missing, so Safari behaviour is unverified.

    What was settled

    • High, game-over card hides restart on short mobile screens: fixed where it was raised. At 320×568 and 390×568, both the new-best and the unbanked-loss endings now show the whole 52px restart button, all three records and the run detail, with the card's scroll height equal to its client height. One tap at the button's measured centre restarts. The same root cause remains on desktop heights and landscape phones, which the round-one measurements never covered. That is the high finding below, and it is not a regression from this revision: the desktop pond rule that triggers it was already in the previous commit.
    • Medium, four promotional taglines: fixed. None of the four lines is in the DOM at 390 or 1440. The intro chip, intro hint and combo caption are gone with their styles. The subtitle now reads "A frog-climbing game where you bank coins before you fall." and the Hop in button bottom sits at 478px of 844 at 390 wide. The probe no longer reports the chip as a kicker.
    • Medium, pointer-operated controls divert the next keyboard hop: fixed during a run. Click Hop left, ArrowRight, Space lands at height 2 with pot 300. Hop in, click Sound, ArrowLeft, Space lands at height 1 with sound unchanged. Land on pad 1, click Sound, Enter banks 125. Click BANK then ArrowRight, Space lands at height 2. Tab to Sound then Space still toggles natively and keeps focus. The ready-screen remainder is the low finding below.
    • Low, six font weights: fixed. Visible text at 390 and 1440 computes to exactly three pairs: Lilita 400, Nunito 500, Nunito 800. The probe's type-faces check passes.

    New findings

    • High, bug: the result card still hides restart on desktop viewports under 795px tall and on landscape phones. Both dialogs are absolute inside the pond, which clips overflow, and during a run the pond shrinks with the viewport while the card keeps its 424px layout. At 1366×657, a maximised browser on the most common laptop screen, the card is 238px tall: the records, the restart button and the run detail are below the clip and need a wheel or swipe before the restart click. 1280×720 also hides the button completely, 1366×768 and 1024×768 show 19px of it, and 844×390 and 667×375 hide it with the records. A browser-only trial of two CSS rules, a fixed overlay below 800px tall on wide screens and the existing compact type at any width below 650px tall, shows the full button and records at every one of those sizes and leaves 1440×900, 1920×1080, 390×844 and 320×568 unchanged.
    • Low, bug: a pointer click on Sound before a run sends Space and Enter to the button. The new focus handoff only runs while playing. On the ready screen, click Sound then press Space: sound toggles off and the run does not start. Enter toggles it back on. W starts. Dropping the phase condition on the handoff fixes it, since the other controls are disabled or inert outside a run.

    • highbug: the game-over card still hides restart on desktop viewports under 795px tall and on landscape phonessrc/style.css:489

Now: Both dialogs are absolutely positioned inside .pond-wrap, which clips its overflow, so a dialog can never be taller than the pond. During a run the pond shrinks with the viewport (line 1421: clamp(280px, calc(100svh - 382px), 510px) on desktop; line 1433: max(180px, calc(100svh - 192px)) under 651px tall), but the result card keeps its full 424px layout (frog, 32px heading, 48px score, three records, 52px button, run detail).

The compact treatment added this round (line 1376) only applies at widths up to 540px, so it rescues portrait phones and nothing else. On a maximised browser on a 1366x768 laptop (viewport about 1366x657) the card is 238px tall holding 424px: the title, loss line and score show, while Best score, Best height, Daily streak, the whole One more run button and the run detail sit below the clip and need a wheel or swipe inside the card before the restart click.

1280x720 hides the button completely, 1366x768 and 1024x768 show 19px of its 52px, and landscape phones (844x390, 667x375) hide it and the records completely.

Change to: Add one rule next to the compact block, @media (min-width: 541px) and (max-height: 800px) { .in-run .overlay { position: fixed; } } (the overlay keeps inset: 0, so the pause and result cards centre in the viewport instead of the shrunken pond; the page behind is already inert while a dialog is open), and widen the compact block at line 1376 from (max-width: 540px) and (max-height: 650px) to (max-height: 650px) so the smaller heading and score also apply to landscape phones and 960x540 embeds.

Nothing is removed and the 1440x900 and 390x844 layouts are untouched.

Why: The brief requires that Restart takes one tap and starts instantly, with no menus between runs, and the template contract says embed dimensions vary; a primary action clipped out of a dialog on the most common laptop viewports is a broken layout.

This is the same root cause as the short-screen finding settled this round: that fix holds at every portrait size it named (320x568 and 390x568 now show the full button), but the round-one measurements never covered desktop heights, where the same clip was already present before this revision.

Chromium 1366x657 (a 1366x768 screen with browser chrome), fresh storage: load dist/index.html, click Hop in, click Hop left, wait 700ms, click BANK, wait about five seconds for the pad to sink.

      Measured: #pond-wrap height 280px; .result-card clientHeight 238, scrollHeight 424, scrollTop 0; #restart-button 0px of 52px visible inside the card and viewport, document.elementFromPoint at its centre returns the game-shell section; #result-best and #run-detail 0px visible; document.activeElement is restart-button.

      Same steps at other sizes, visible restart height: 1280x720 0/52 (records 14.4/21), 1366x768 19.4/52, 1024x768 19.4/52, 1440x790 41.4/52, 844x390 touch 0/52 (card 180 of 359px, records 0/21), 667x375 touch 0/52; the pause card at 844x390 shows 27.6px of the 44px Restart run button.

      Passing as built: 1440x900, 1920x1080, 1280x800, 1024x600, 390x844, 320x568 and 390x568 (52/52).

The screenshot at 1280x720 shows the card ending under the three record labels with no button.

Browser-only trial of the two proposed rules injected with a style tag, same steps: restart 52/52 and records 21/21 at 1366x657 (card 424/424), 1280x720, 1366x768, 1024x768, 1440x790, 844x390 (card 326/326), 667x375, 960x540 and 1024x600, with no horizontal overflow and the BANK button still above the fold during play; 1440x900, 1920x1080, 390x844 and 320x568 unchanged.

    • lowbug: a pointer click on Sound before a run sends Space and Enter to the button instead of startingsrc/main.ts:238

Now: The focus handoff added this round runs only while a run is in progress. On the ready screen the Sound button is the one enabled utility, so a visitor who turns sound on with the mouse and then presses the Space key printed on the Hop in button toggles sound off again and the game does not start; Enter toggles it back on. W still starts because the keyboard guard at line 266 only diverts Space and Enter.

Change to: Drop the phase condition so the line reads if (event.detail > 0) canvas.focus({ preventScroll: true }); the hop and BANK buttons are disabled outside a run and Sound is inert under the pause and result dialogs, so the only phase the condition changes is ready, where focus belongs on the pond. Keep the keyboard guard so Tab-reached buttons still activate natively.

Why: The brief lists Space as the hop key and the start button advertises Space; the settled finding this remains from asked that switching from an on-screen control to the keyboard never silently reuses the button.

Chromium 1440x900, fresh storage: load dist/index.html without starting a run, click the Sound button (aria-pressed becomes true, document.activeElement.id is sound-button), press Space.

Measured: #intro stays visible, aria-pressed flips to false, focus stays on sound-button; pressing Enter flips it to true again and the run still has not started; pressing W then starts the run (intro hidden, pause button enabled, focus on pond).

Expected: after the pointer click, Space or Enter starts the run and sound stays on, as the same sequence now does mid-run (Hop in, click Sound, ArrowLeft, Space lands at height 1 with sound unchanged).

  6. Build websiteAgent #157414 files changed

Fixed both findings: restart stays visible on short desktop and landscape screens, and Sound no longer captures Space/Enter before play.

Rebuilt dist/ and wrote .imd-responses.json. Build, typecheck, 14 unit tests and 50 Chromium checks passed, covering 21 viewport sizes.

Both findings from the previous round are fixed. The findings file holds an empty list and no tracked file was changed.

High: game-over card hides restart on short viewports. Fixed. The new rule in src/style.css:1377 pins both dialogs to the viewport at widths above 540px up to 850px tall, and the compact result layout at line 1385 now applies at every width up to 650px tall. I rebuilt the game-over state with the original steps (Hop in, Hop left, BANK, wait for the sink) in Chromium at 19 sizes. The result card measured scrollHeight equal to clientHeight everywhere, the restart button was fully visible with elementFromPoint landing on itself, and a raw-coordinate click or tap restarted in one step.

The pause card also fit at every size (Restart run 44 of 44px), BANK stayed in view during play at all sizes, there was no horizontal scroll and no page errors. The 1366x657 and 844x390 screenshots show the dialog centred in the viewport with the button and run detail inside it.

Low: pointer click on Sound before a run eats Space and Enter. Fixed. The focus handoff in src/main.ts:238 no longer checks the phase. With fresh storage at 1440x900, clicking Sound then pressing Space, and separately Enter, each started the run with sound still on and focus on the pond. Reaching Sound by keyboard and pressing Enter still toggles it natively and leaves the ready screen in place.

New findings: none. The taste probe ran with Playwright 1.64 installed outside the repository. Its five failing checks are the canvas fallback text overlapping overlays in the DOM measurement, one tracked letter in the height unit, the run timer read as a kicker, the pad guide's two-beat lines, and border plus shadow on the shell and buttons. None was introduced by this revision, and none is a defect I can reproduce as a visitor, so I did not reopen them.
