Imagine the pets and their owners presenting their costumes on stage.

Choose the costumes you find most impressive, creative and memorable overall. Use the guidelines below to inform your judgment, without assigning numerical scores or mechanically counting features.

Write a judging report based on visually inspecting the supplied images. You are judging existing costumes, not creating images or designing new costumes.

Eligible entries: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I.

Costume collage: https://fren-pet-h2026-collage.rckmtlshared.chatgpt.site/H2026-collage-A-I.png

Normal-pet reference: https://fren-pet-h2026-collage.rckmtlshared.chatgpt.site/Fren-Pet-normal-appearance-reference.png

The reference is not an entry. Use it to distinguish normal pet features from player-created costume elements.

These are Fren Pets from pet.game. Their players used the in-game Hat Crafter to make costumes.

Look favorably on:

  • Creativity and an interesting, recognizable or imaginative concept.
  • Complexity, purposeful detail and good execution.
  • A pet that convincingly looks dressed in a costume, or transformed into something different.
  • Visible costume-related props.
  • Coordinated multi-piece costumes.
  • Inventive use of the Hat Crafter that goes beyond ordinary headwear.

“Stretching the Hat Crafter’s limits” means making something that looks as unlike an ordinary hat as possible.

The original pet may be completely covered. That is allowed when the costume is over the pet.

Hat-only designs are generally less competitive. Visibly poor execution or a bland design should count against an entry. Extra pieces and complexity are favorable when they contribute to the costume; clutter alone does not make a costume better.

Judge the visible result. Do not guess how much time, effort or technical difficulty went into making it.

Give credit only for costume elements. Ignore intrinsic pet traits, rarity, popularity, backgrounds, labels, tile position and screenshot quality.

Form your own judgment. Do not open or read other judges’ reports, search for contest results, or try to predict what other judges will choose. Do not simulate additional judges.

Actually inspect both images and every eligible entry. Successfully opening a URL is not enough by itself.

If you cannot visually inspect the images clearly enough to judge all nine entries, return status “unable_to_judge” and explain the limitation. Do not invent observations, provide a guessed ranking, or treat missing evidence as a poor costume.

Otherwise, return status “judged” and provide:

  1. One concrete visual observation and a brief impression of each entry.
  2. Your complete preference order, best to least preferred, using every letter A–I exactly once.
  3. A short explanation of why your first choice deserves to win.
  4. A short explanation of why your second choice deserves runner-up.
  5. Any important uncertainty or particularly close choice.

Your ranking should reflect your overall preference under these guidelines. Do not use category scores, weights or a points table.

Write your report and matching JSON ballot to the filenames assigned to your judging step. Both must contain the same ranking and choices.

I finished my judge 1 ballot and wrote it to both files. Both copies have the same ranking and picks. Neither file is tracked by git, since the daemon uploads them.

    • artifacts/fpcc/judge-1.md is the report.
    • artifacts/fpcc/judge-1.json is the ballot. A quick script confirmed it has nine observations and ranks A–I exactly once each.

I downloaded the collage and the normal-pet reference and looked at both. All nine entries were clear enough to judge, so the status is judged.

    Ranking: B, H, I, D, E, A, F, C, G

    • First choice, B (shark): the pet is completely replaced by a clean, instantly recognizable shark with fins, tail, belly and grin. It is the furthest from an ordinary hat.
    • Second choice, H (Grim Reaper): the pet is fully covered by a hooded cloak with a skull emblem and holds a large scythe, which is a strong prop.
    • Close calls: B and H were close. H has a prop, but B's shape and finish are cleaner. H and I (samurai armor) were also close.
    • Unclear entry: I couldn't tell what F's costume is meant to be, a red pot holding a flaming orange cat figure next to the pet. I ranked it lower for that, and the report says so as an open question.

The report keeps what is visible in the images separate from my opinions, and it has no scores or other judges. Some untracked dotfiles were already in the repository root; I didn't touch them.

Completed and validated both matching Judge 2 ballot files:

    • judge-2.md
    • judge-2.json

Both images and all nine entries were visually inspected. The ballot ranks H first and I second, with nine concrete observations and recorded uncertainty. JSON/Markdown consistency and ballot structure passed local validation.

Created and validated Judge 3’s report and JSON ballot.

    Status: judged. Ranking: H > B > I > D > F > A > C > E > G.

Both images and all nine entries were visually inspected. The outputs agree and remain untracked. Previous judges’ files were left unopened and unchanged.

  6. Research report 5Agent #1876made 2 files

I judged all nine entries and wrote my ballot to artifacts/fpcc/judge-5.md and artifacts/fpcc/judge-5.json. I checked that the JSON and the Markdown give the same ranking and that the JSON has nine observations. I did not open the other judges' reports.

    I viewed both the collage and the normal-pet reference. My ranking, best to least preferred, is H > B > I > F > D > A > C > G > E.

    • First choice, H: the Grim Reaper fully covers the pet in a hooded robe with a skull emblem and carries a large scythe. It is the strongest transformation, and the scythe is a clear costume prop.
    • Runner-up, B: the shark fully covers the pet and is polished and instantly recognizable. It has no prop or extra pieces.
    • Closest calls: B and H are very close. F's cauldron-and-flame concept is hard to read, so it could rank higher or lower. D and A are also close. The images are small, so I may have missed fine details. This is noted in the ballot's uncertainty field.

The report separates what I saw from my impressions of each entry. It contains no numerical scores and no simulated extra judges.

I copied the two images into test/scratch/ to open them. That folder is scratch space and isn't submitted.

  7. Research report 6Agent #1979made 2 files

I judged all nine entries as Judge 6 and wrote both the report and the JSON ballot; status is judged. Both images opened, and every entry was clear enough to judge when enlarged. A local check confirmed the two files agree, the ballot has all required fields, and every letter A–I is ranked exactly once.

    Preference order: I > B > H > D > A > F > E > C > G

    • First choice, I (samurai armour): the helmet, crest, mask and layered plates form one coordinated outfit, so the pet looks dressed rather than just wearing a hat.
    • Runner-up, B (shark): this is the most complete transformation and the least hat-like entry, but it's a simpler single idea than I.
    • Closest calls: I over B and B over H were the tightest. E, C and F were also hard to order among themselves.
    • Unclear from the image: I couldn't tell what H's pale emblem depicts, what F's concept is meant to be, or whether I's black lower body is costume or pet. None of these changed my order. The sprites are also small and slightly soft, so the finest details are less certain.

Independence: I didn't open any earlier judge's report or ballot, and I didn't search for contest results.

Delivery: nothing was committed, and neither file shows up in git status, so they stay out of Git for the daemon to upload. I didn't add a README, because the assignment says to write only your own ballot.
