Build a production-quality static website named PAY//AGENT, an independent concept for policy-controlled x402 payments by autonomous AI agents. The primary positioning is: “The policy and observability layer for AI agent payments.” The site must clearly state that PAY//AGENT is not the official x402 protocol, not a deployed payment network, not financial advice, and has no token.

Create these pages:

  1. Home: explain the problem, value proposition, x402 request/payment lifecycle, AI use cases, policy controls, service examples, comparison with subscription APIs, developer calls to action, and a clearly labeled simulated terminal flow.

  2. Whitepaper: include an abstract, system architecture, payment lifecycle, deterministic policy engine, service discovery, threat model, economic model, reference implementation, roadmap, limitations, revision history, glossary, and references to official x402 materials.

  3. Docs: include an overview, quickstart, proposed client and server flow, example HTTP 402 challenge, policy configuration, receipt format, errors, and security guidance. All example APIs must be labeled “proposed” unless actually implemented.

  4. Playground: provide an educational simulation of: Request → 402 Challenge → Policy Check → Authorization → Retry → Result.

It must not connect a wallet, request a signature, or imply that real funds move.

  1. Security: explain spending caps, rolling budgets, network and asset allowlists, quote expiry, replay protection, prompt-injection risks, wallet isolation, revocation, escalation, and responsible-disclosure placeholders.

  2. About: explain the concept status, scope, license, maintainer placeholder, and contact placeholder.

Also create Terms, Privacy, Risk Disclosure, and a custom 404 page.

Use a distinctive black-and-off-white industrial design with an acid-green accent, strong editorial typography, terminal-style components, subtle texture, and restrained motion. It may share the broad experimental-developer aesthetic of IMD, but must not copy IMD branding, text, layouts, or assets.

Make the website responsive, semantic, keyboard-accessible, readable by screen readers, and respectful of prefers-reduced-motion.

Include local fonts or robust system fallbacks, favicon, web manifest, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, canonical and Open Graph placeholders, structured metadata, and a README with local preview and IPFS deployment instructions. Keep the deliverable static and suitable for IPFS. Navigation and all internal links must work.

Do not fabricate live network status, transaction records, partners, audits, customers, team members, usage statistics, service availability, prices, contract addresses, or integrations. Any illustrative data must be prominently labeled “SIMULATED” or “EXAMPLE”.

Do not add wallet connection or real payment functionality. The final result should look credible while remaining honest about being a concept and prototype.

Work

  1. Posted22 minto the first attempt
  2. Build websiteAgent #156544 files changedsent back

I've written the PAY//AGENT site, but none of the required checks ran. The shell failed to start on every attempt ("Failed to create bridge sockets"), and the browser tool failed too ("Socket directory path is too long"). So npm run build, the typecheck, taste.mjs, browser inspection and git commit are all undone. I've marked the work Incomplete in artifacts/validation.md.

What's in the repository (not committed):

    • Pages: Home, Whitepaper, Docs, Playground, Security, About, Terms, Privacy, Risk Disclosure and a custom 404, plus ipfs-404.html so IPFS gateways can show it.
    • No framework: plain HTML with one stylesheet (src/assets/site.css) and one script (src/assets/site.js). I couldn't install anything, so Vite and React were out. Every page is its own file and every link is relative, so it works under an IPFS gateway path. Fonts are system font stacks; nothing loads from other sites.
    • Playground: runs Request → 402 Challenge → Policy Check → Authorization → Retry → Result in the page. It has Run, Step and Reset, and eight preset scenarios: within policy, over the cap, budget spent, stale quote, wrong network, injected payee, replay, and needs approval. It never connects a wallet or sends a request.
    • Honesty labels: all illustrative data is marked SIMULATED, EXAMPLE or PROPOSED. Every page says the site is not the official x402 protocol, not a payment network, not financial advice, and has no token. Maintainer, contact, security contact and the site's address (https://payagent.example) are labelled placeholders.
    • Metadata: each page has a title, description, favicon, og:title, og:image, canonical link and structured data. There's also a web manifest, robots.txt and sitemap.xml.
    • Build and test scripts: package.json and a lockfile with no dependencies. scripts/build.mjs copies src/ into dist/ and checks the result. scripts/check.mjs checks links, anchors and head tags, tests the eight playground scenarios, and confirms dist/ matches src/ exactly.
    • Docs: README (install, preview, rebuild, IPFS deployment), DESIGN.md (tokens, the six type sizes, components, breakpoints), and the validation record.

    Things you should know:

    • dist/ was copied by hand. Line counts match src/ for every file, but the byte-for-byte check hasn't run. Run npm run check first, then npm run build.
    • Design checks were source-only. I found and fixed four issues, including a background texture layered over the text. Nothing was rendered, so nothing about layout, contrast or the first screen at 390px wide has been seen.
    • The design probe will likely fail its all-caps check on the SIMULATED / EXAMPLE / PROPOSED badges. I kept them because the brief asks for those exact labels.
    • The share image is an SVG at the placeholder address. Some platforms only show PNG or JPEG previews, so export one before launch if link previews matter.

Not delivered: artifacts/validation.md. Under artifacts/, only this step's named outputs leave the machine.

Saved the findings, exact source citations, fixes, and reproductions in .imd-findings.json. Website files remain unchanged.

    1. High — bug: mobile lifecycle descriptions collapse into the number column. At 320px and 390px, all six descriptions measure 48px wide, producing a roughly 3,199px-tall list. Place paragraphs in the second grid column below 64rem and the third column above it. Source: site.css:755.

    2. Medium — bug: editing an animated simulation mixes old verdicts with new request data. At 1440px, start the default run, then change the service, cap, and spent amount while it animates. It can request search, retry the dataset endpoint, and report success using the old policy verdict. Disable editable controls during execution and retain one scenario snapshot throughout. Source: site.js:553.

    3. Medium — bug: custom 404 assets and recovery links break on nested missing paths. At 390px, serve the IPFS fallback at /ipfs/testcid/missing/deep. Its stylesheet and recovery links resolve inside /missing/, leaving an unstyled page whose buttons reach another 404. Resolve those URLs against the content root. Source: 404.html:13.

Repository checks passed. Chromium checks covered every page at 320, 390, and 1440px, all eight simulation presets, keyboard navigation, and reduced motion. WebKit could not launch because required browser libraries were unavailable.

The site presents an agent-payment policy concept through one coherent visual idea: an industrial control desk built from acid-green controls, terminals, and editorial typography.

    • highbug: mobile lifecycle descriptions collapse into the number columnsrc/assets/site.css:755

Now: Each lifecycle item has a generated counter, a heading and a paragraph, but the mobile grid has only two columns. Auto-placement puts every paragraph in the 3rem counter column, leaving the main text column empty.

Change to: Below 64rem, place .flow > li > p in grid-column: 2; at 64rem and above, set .flow--wide > li > p to grid-column: 3. The existing headings and numbering can stay in their current columns, and the rows will close up around readable paragraphs.

Why: The brief requires a responsive, readable explanation of the x402 lifecycle. All six descriptions currently become narrow vertical strips, a broken mobile layout.

Width 390px, height 844px (also reproduced at 320px): open index.html and scroll to 'The request and payment lifecycle'.

      Inspect .flow > li > p.

Every paragraph measures exactly 48px wide; the first is 332.72px tall, and Authorization is 511.88px tall.

The six list items occupy 3198.56px vertically.

Expected: descriptions use the available text column beneath their headings (291.22px at 390px), with the number in its own column.

      Screenshot: test/scratch/lifecycle-390.png.

The home probe's layout pass misses this because the text neither overlaps nor widens the viewport.

    • mediumbug: editing an animated simulation mixes old verdicts with new request datasrc/assets/site.js:553

Now: Run simulation disables only Run, Step and Reset. The remaining fields stay editable, but input changes are ignored while busy. evaluate() retains the original quote and verdict while advance() and finish() read the newly edited fields, so the transcript can retry a different service and increment a budget that never passed evaluation.

Change to: Disable all scenario and policy inputs, selects and preset buttons for the duration of setBusy(true), restore them at completion, and retain the scenario read at begin() for every stage and final accounting.

Why: The educational simulation must show one coherent Request → Challenge → Policy Check → Authorization → Retry → Result. Mixing two scenarios falsely teaches that a payment can proceed under a cap or budget that it does not satisfy.

Width 1440px, height 900px, reduced motion off: load playground.html with the default Within policy preset; click Run simulation; after the Request stage appears (about 450ms), change service to Dataset slice export, cap to 0, and Already spent in window to 4.999 before the run finishes.

This also reproduces by automated selectOption/fill without modifying application code.

Actual: the log requests /v1/search and quotes 0.002 to payee:example-search, then retries /v1/dataset, reports all checks PASS, and finishes Allowed.

The visible cap is 0 and the spent input becomes 5.001 against a 5 budget.

Expected: edits are unavailable during this run, or the run is cancelled and re-evaluated, so its request, quote, verdict, retry and accounting all describe the same settings.

      Screenshot: test/scratch/playground-race-1440.png.

    • mediumbug: custom 404 assets and recovery links break on nested missing pathssrc/404.html:13

Now: The custom 404 uses ./assets/site.css, ./index.html and ./docs.html relative to the missing URL. When an IPFS gateway serves ipfs-404.html for a nested missing path, all of those resolve inside the nonexistent directory. The page loses its design and both recovery links lead to another 404.

Change to: Resolve the stylesheet, favicon, brand and recovery URLs against the content root: /ipfs// or /ipns// on a path gateway, and / on a domain or subdomain host. Use those resolved URLs in the 404 document while preserving its current-document #main skip link; regenerate dist/404.html and dist/ipfs-404.html.

Why: The brief requires a working custom 404, functioning internal navigation and a static export suitable for IPFS. Visitors who follow an outdated nested link currently cannot recover through either offered action.

Width 390px, height 844px: serve dist/ under /ipfs/testcid/ with missing URLs returning dist/ipfs-404.html at the requested URL, as documented for the IPFS fallback.

      Visit /ipfs/testcid/missing/deep.

Actual: the stylesheet request resolves to /ipfs/testcid/missing/assets/site.css and returns 404; computed body font is Times New Roman.

Go to the home page resolves to /ipfs/testcid/missing/index.html and Open the docs to /ipfs/testcid/missing/docs.html, both missing.

Expected: styled 404 and recovery URLs /ipfs/testcid/index.html and /ipfs/testcid/docs.html.

Normal /ipfs/testcid/docs.html renders correctly in the same fixture.

The same defect occurs on /missing/deep with a domain-root deployment.

      Screenshot: test/scratch/nested404-390.png.

  4. Build websiteAgent #195910 files changed

Fixed all three findings: mobile lifecycle columns, simulation consistency, and nested 404 recovery. Rebuilt dist/ and recorded responses in .imd-responses.json.

Build, typecheck, static checks, and DOM/HTTP validation pass. Browser screenshots and rendered checks remain unverified because Chromium could not launch. Details are in artifacts/validation.md.

Not delivered: artifacts/validation.md. Under artifacts/, only this step's named outputs leave the machine.
