Build SqueekRace Wheel Relay, a playable browser game companion to SqueekRace Arena.

Create a live relay where the player chooses a racer and starts a timed run.

Use real accepted wheel passages from the official Squeekchain public API

to advance the racer. Show when the wheel is resting or the feed is stale.

End each run with a result, a recap of the observed activity, and a replay button.

Keep any practice mode clearly labeled and separate from live results.

Make the game work on mobile and desktop as a static site hosted on IPFS.

Use original art and provide source code and browser test results.

Link to the existing Grand Prix at https://squeek-race.vercel.app/

as a companion game. Build Wheel Relay as a playable deliverable in this IMD job.

Work

  1. Posted26 minto the first attempt
  2. Build websiteAgent #35127 files changedsent back

SqueekRace Wheel Relay is fully written, but none of it has ever been run, so this delivery is incomplete. The shell failed on every attempt, including a final try at node scripts/build.mjs. No build, typecheck, test or browser check took place, and nothing is committed to git; the files are only in the working tree. VALIDATION.md records all of this and marks the work Incomplete.

    • Shell error: Sandbox is required but failed to initialize: Failed to create bridge sockets after 5 attempts. Restart to retry. Running it outside the sandbox (dangerouslyDisableSandbox) is not allowed either.
    • Browser error: Browser "chrome-for-testing" is not installed. Installing it would have needed the shell.

The browser tool's code runner could have started processes outside the sandbox, but I didn't use it, because that would bypass the same restriction. Because this was a tool failure, I didn't write .imd-blocked.json, as the brief says.

    What's there

    • The game: you pick one of three racers and start a 1, 2 or 5 minute run. Each real accepted passage moves the racer one pace around the wheel rim. You pass the baton in gold zones for points, and baton timing can only change the score, never the position.
    • States and results: resting and stale are shown as text and icons, each run ends with a recap and a replay button, and practice is labeled throughout and never saved with live results.
    • Companion link: the Grand Prix is linked from the header and the page body.

    Decisions to review

    • Live source: the game reads /v1/status, not /v1/measurement/runs. runs lists oldest-first from October, so reaching live data would mean walking the whole history. The rise in cumulativeWorkUnits between readings gives the same passage count.
    • No Vite or React: the site is plain ES modules typed with JSDoc, because that was the only way to deliver a real dist/ without a bundler. npm run build simply copies src/ to dist/.
    • Replay: the button starts a new run with the same racer, length and mode; it doesn't play back the previous run.

    Check these first

    1. Run the checks: npm ci && npm run build && npm run typecheck && npm test, then the browser walk in tests/browser.mjs. The tests are unrun too, so a failure could be in the test.
    2. Watch one live run during a busy period, usually around 21:00–23:30 UTC. The wheel was resting during all my fetches, so I never saw the counter rise. If it only updates when a round closes, racers would jump every ten minutes, not move smoothly.
    3. Replace the share image: og.svg is an SVG, and many link previews need PNG or JPEG. I couldn't write a binary file here.

One slip of mine: I sent a stray write to a path outside the workspace. It was denied and created nothing.

The visual idea is clear: a real hamster wheel becomes a circular baton track.

Review checks passed: 35 unit tests and 14 scripted browser checks. Direct live-browser requests returned ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE, so production movement remains unverified. Application files were unchanged; no data or results were fabricated.

    • highfidelity: the required browser test results are absent from the handoffVALIDATION.md:32

Now: The delivery includes a browser test script, but VALIDATION.md explicitly records browser tests as not run and screenshots as nonexistent; no browser results are supplied.

Change to: Run the browser walk in Chromium and WebKit, repair any failures, and include the actual pass/fail report and viewport screenshots with an updated VALIDATION.md. Record an unavailable engine honestly if it cannot run.

Why: The brief explicitly asks to provide source code and browser test results; test source without execution results does not meet the latter requirement.

At 390×844 and 1440×900, review the delivery evidence: open VALIDATION.md lines 26–34 and README.md Results.

Browser tests are marked Not run and Screenshots are None exist. tests/browser.mjs defines checks but no committed results artifact accompanies it.

Expected: measured browser results for the delivered game.

Actual: the handoff states that none were produced.

This is a missing deliverable, independent of any tests performed during this review.

    • mediumbug: an unobserved wheel is reported as resting for the whole runsrc/js/main.js:599

Now: Every live run with zero received passages is titled “The wheel rested all run”, including runs whose feed was stale for most of the timer. The same result can explicitly report stale time and a missing finish reading underneath.

Change to: Use “No passages observed” for zero-passage runs with stale time, a counter gap or no finish reading, and say “The feed was incomplete, so wheel activity could not be verified.” Reserve the resting title for a fully observed resting run.

Why: The brief requires a recap of observed activity and clear stale states. A network outage is not evidence that the real wheel rested.

At 390×844 in Chromium, serve dist/ and route the official API to an online hardware status with counterEpoch=test-epoch, cumulativeWorkUnits="1000", rpmMilli=0 and current timestamps.

Choose 1 min and start live.

Once countdown ends, abort every status request for the rest of the run and its 14 s finish wait.

Observed result: title “The wheel rested all run”; recap “Wheel running 0 s, resting 19 s, feed stale 41 s.” and “The finish reading did not arrive in time”.

Expected: an incomplete-observation result that does not claim the wheel rested during the 41 s without data.

Reproduced with Playwright clock.runFor(3200), then aborting polls and clock.runFor(76000).

    • mediumbug: timed results credit passages observed after the clock reaches zerosrc/js/main.js:367

Now: The first new reading during settling is added in full regardless of its observation timestamp, and its log time is clamped to the run length. Activity after the timer expires can therefore increase both the score and the apparent in-run activity.

Change to: Close passage intake at endsAt and use settling only to drain passages already admitted to the run. Do not add the next full counter delta after zero or clamp that later activity into the last chart bucket.

Why: The brief asks for a timed live run and a recap of observed activity. A post-finish observation must not score as activity within the timed interval.

At 390×844 in Chromium, intercept status with schemaVersion=1, hardware provenance, a constant epoch, rpmMilli=77000 and cumulativeWorkUnits="1000".

Give each response current browser-clock generatedAt/observedAt/receivedAt values.

Choose 1 min and start live.

Keep the counter at 1000 through the entire timer, then, only after body[data-phase="settling"] and HUD passages=0, change it to 1020.

In the measured run, zero was at 2026-11-04T10:12:55.668Z; the first increment was observed at 10:12:57.791Z.

Actual result: 20 Accepted passages, Score 16, and “Busiest moment: 20 passages around 0:55.” Expected: zero scored passages and no in-run activity from this post-deadline increment.

Reproduced using Playwright clock.runFor(3200), runFor(60000), changing the fixture count after asserting settling, then runFor(20000).

    • mediumbug: repeated cached readings keep an old feed marked freshsrc/js/feed.js:120

Now: Freshness checks generatedAt minus receivedAt, two timestamps inside the same response. Re-fetching an unchanged online response resets lastGoodAt, so an old measurement can remain “Wheel resting” indefinitely with live starts enabled.

Change to: Compare the current time passed into classify with the measurement receivedAt, retaining the existing 45000 ms age limit. Repeated successful fetches of the same old response must not refresh the underlying measurement age.

Why: The brief explicitly requires showing when the feed is stale, and the README defines measurements over 45 s old as stale. Fetch success does not establish fresh wheel evidence.

At 390×844 in Chromium, fulfill every status poll with the same valid schemaVersion=1 hardware response: freshness="online", generatedAt=observedAt=receivedAt="2026-11-04T10:15:00.000Z", counterEpoch="fixture", cumulativeWorkUnits="1000", rpmMilli=0.

Set the Playwright clock to that timestamp before loading, then clock.runFor(90000).

At browser time 10:16:30.136Z, after 31 successful polls, measured #feed[data-state] is still resting, its title is “Wheel resting”, and #start-live.disabled is false.

Expected: Feed stale and live start disabled once this unchanged measurement is over 45 s old.

Actual: it remains eligible after 90 s.

    • mediumtaste: the desktop first screen exceeds the prose budgetsrc/index.html:154

Now: The desktop first screen contains 115 words of prose, with a long passage-source explanation below the wheel in addition to the setup and companion copy.

Change to: Replace the source paragraph with “A sensor records accepted wheel passages. Relay reads the Squeekchain public API and plays each batch out smoothly.” Keep the existing API link on “Squeekchain public API”; let the lower section shrink to the shortened paragraph.

Why: taste@1 allows 90 prose words on the desktop first screen. The shorter explanation retains the real source and batching behavior while bringing this screen below that bar.

At 1440×900, open the initial setup state and run node .imd/reads/skills/design-critic/scripts/taste.mjs --out test/scratch/taste with Playwright configured.

The copy-budget check reports “prose on the first screen: 34 words at 390 (bar 60), 115 at 1440 (bar 90)”.

The 1440 screenshot confirms that the passage-source paragraph occupies the lower middle column.

Expected: no more than 90 desktop prose words; actual: 115.

  4. Build websiteAgent #5599 files changedsent back

I fixed four of the five findings in the source, but none of the fixes has been run. The fifth finding, the missing browser test results, is still open because no browser or command could run on this machine.

    What failed:

    • Command tool: every command, even pwd and node --version, stopped before it started with Sandbox is required but failed to initialize: Failed to create bridge sockets after 5 attempts. Running outside the sandbox is disabled. So the build, typecheck, unit tests, tests/browser.mjs and the design probe could not run.
    • Browser tool: its Chromium crashed on launch with Socket path too long: .../.cache/tmp/org.chromium.Chromium.*/SingletonSocket, then SIGABRT. Its temp folder is under this job's long working path. WebKit can only be reached through the command tool.

Answers to the findings (all in .imd-responses.json):

    • Missing browser results (high): disputed, not faked. The reviewer is right that they're missing. VALIDATION.md and the README now record both rounds' attempts with the exact errors, and say plainly that there are no Chromium or WebKit results and no screenshots. Producing them needs a machine where the shell or Chromium can start, for example one with a shorter temp path. There, node tests/browser.mjs --out <dir> writes the results and screenshots.
    • Stale feed shown as fresh: fixed (src/js/feed.js:114 and :137). A reading's age now starts when that measurement first arrives, minus the age the API reports. Fetching the same cached reading again no longer resets it, so after 45 s the feed shows stale and live start is disabled. I added three unit tests for this, also not run.
    • Passages after the deadline: fixed (src/js/main.js:392). A reading counts only if the device observed it before the clock reached zero. A later reading adds nothing and ends the finish wait, and the recap says how many passages were left out. The trade-off is that passages just before zero are lost when they arrive in a reading observed after it.
    • "The wheel rested all run": fixed (src/js/main.js:607). That title now needs no stale time, no counter restart and an arrived finish reading. Otherwise a run with no passages is titled "No passages observed" and says the feed was incomplete.
    • Desktop word count: fixed (src/index.html:153). The source paragraph is now the reviewer's 17-word version, with the API link kept. That brings the count from 115 to about 86 words against a limit of 90. I counted by hand; the probe hasn't confirmed it.

Since the build couldn't run, I applied each edit to the matching file in dist/ by hand. Their line counts still match src/, though no byte-for-byte comparison was possible. The README describes the new timing and stale rules. Nothing was committed.

    • highfidelity: the required browser test results are still absent from the handoffVALIDATION.md:31

Now: The handoff still states that there are no browser results or screenshots for Chromium or WebKit. The author documented genuine launch failures, but no executed browser report is included with the source.

Change to: Include the actual Chromium and WebKit results.json and viewport screenshots with the handoff, and update VALIDATION.md and README.md Results to describe those executions. The review has now successfully run the seven-check walk in both engines.

Why: The brief explicitly asks to provide source code and browser test results; test source and documented launch failures do not supply the requested results.

At 390×844 and 1440×900, inspect the delivered evidence: VALIDATION.md line 31 explicitly says there are no browser results and no screenshots; the Checks table at lines 53–56 marks Chromium and WebKit Not run and Screenshots None exist.

README.md Results also marks both engines Not run.

The author’s reported sandbox and Chromium launch failures explain the gap and are accepted as limitations of that build attempt.

Expected: a measured browser report accompanying the source.

Actual: no executed browser results are delivered.

This is the same outstanding requirement, not fabricated results or a newly reported bug.

In this review, tests/browser.mjs passed all seven Chromium checks, and the same walk passed all seven WebKit checks after installing runtime dependencies in temporary scratch space.

Those reviewer-only outputs are excluded from the delivered tree; they do not update the build handoff.

      No results were fabricated.

    • mediumtaste: the desktop first screen still exceeds the prose budgetsrc/index.html:147

Now: The requested source paragraph was shortened, but the measured desktop first screen still contains 97 prose words. The reduced lower section brings the footer into the viewport, so the estimated reduction to 86 did not hold.

Change to: Replace the empty-history sentence with “Finish your first live run.” Keep the adjacent browser-only storage and practice disclosure. Let the lower section shrink naturally.

Why: The existing taste@1 copy-budget finding allows at most 90 desktop prose words; the shortened empty state preserves the next step while removing redundant explanation beneath Live results.

At 1440×900, load the initial setup and run taste@1 with a workspace-local Playwright module: node .imd/reads/skills/design-critic/scripts/taste.mjs --out test/scratch/taste.

      The copy-budget check reports “34 words at 390 (bar 60), 97 at 1440 (bar 90)”.

The screenshot shows the shortened source paragraph, both empty-history sentences and the companion paragraph. taste.json locates #history-empty at y=760.39 with 13 prose words and the 10-word footer at y=898.39, intersecting the first viewport.

Expected: at most 90 desktop prose words.

      Actual: 97.

This is the same unresolved copy finding, not a new stylistic objection.

Browser-only substitution of the proposed empty-state text, using the same taste@1 collection function, measures 84 prose words; no source or export file was changed.

  6. Build websiteAgent #196724 files changed

Fixed both findings and rebuilt dist/.

    • Build, typecheck and 38 unit tests passed.
    • Design probe: 16/16; desktop prose reduced from 97 to 84 words.

VALIDATION.md records the results and limitations. Browser tests use scripted API responses; real live-service behavior remains unverified.

Both prior findings are fixed. Browser results and screenshots now accompany the source. The revised empty state preserves the storage disclosure; raw probe measurements confirm 34 mobile / 84 desktop prose words.

The visual idea holds: the hamster wheel is the relay track, with gold baton zones explaining the timing.

I reran all 38 unit tests, verified source/export hashes and decoded all 14 delivered PNGs. Fresh browser/probe execution was blocked by a browser-launch failure; browser conclusions use the included reports and screenshots. Real active-wheel browser operation remains unverified. Nothing was fabricated.
