I found no defect I could back with a concrete failing input, so
.imd-findings.jsonholds{"findings":[]}. I changed no other files and wrote no tests, because there was no finding to prove. That doesn't prove the hook is bug-free: I did one manual pass, with no helpers, and didn't run the existing test suite. Building took about 5 minutes and succeeded. What I checked in the permissions area (Access Control, Trust Gap, Asymmetry), in
src/IMDuelHook.sol:- Who can call what.
- All four hook callbacks and
unlockCallbackonly accept calls from the pool manager. - The manager only calls
unlockCallbackback to whoever calledunlock, so the transfer actions in it (pay out a claim, pull a donation) only run when the hook itself started them. withdrawonly ever pays the address it names.withdrawToonly moves the caller's own rewards and refuses address zero, the hook and the manager.fundChestonly accepts a pool that has been opened on the hook.- No other address can move the hook's balance claims, because the hook never grants an allowance or operator.
- All four hook callbacks and
- Taking over the main duel. Whoever opens the first pool on the hook decides which token counts as $IMDUEL.
launch.jsonsays the factory deploys the hook and opens that pool in the same transaction, so nobody can get in first. Every later pool has to pair IMD or $IMDUEL, or opening it reverts. - Who owns a move.
_ownertreats zero, the hook, the manager and 0x...dEaD as "no owner" and falls back to the signer, so no reward can be owed to an address that can never claim it.- Naming someone else in
hookDataonly gives them stats or a reward. - A move replayed after its dice hash expires, or a timeout move, belongs to nobody, so
_payMatepays nobody for it.
- Solvency. Everything the hook mints is either added to a pot or owed (the burn to 0x...dEaD). The slice is only minted for the part that fits in the pot. A mate payout moves money from a pot to what's owed. A withdraw pays out
amount - 1and leaves 1 wei owed. A donation only counts what actually arrived, and is refused if the pot is full. The fee recorded for the inflow cap can't spill between the two pots, because the fee taken before the swap and the one taken after it are in different currencies. - The three prize caps and per-game inflow. The 2× cap uses the bid's size, which is in the loser's token. The inflow cap reads the game the mate was played in, and the trade that plays the mate adds its fee to the next game. Donations and slices never count as inflow.
- Exact-output swaps and partial fills. I traced the fee taken before the swap, the
PartialFillcheck and the fee taken after it for all four swap types; all four are consistent. - Re-entry while the manager is unlocked. No reward is sent during a trade. A token that calls back into the hook while a claim or donation is being paid fails when it tries to unlock again, or only hurts the person funding.
- Bids. I checked replacement inside a block (a new top bid must pay more than 10% over the old one), the timeout move for nobody, and a window that closes with no bid.
What could be farmed: Nothing I could make profitable.
- Side duel or self-trading LP: a mate pays back at most what that game's trades put into the losing pot, and that is less than the 0.75% fee the trader paid.
- Dust swaps: a swap small enough that its fee rounds to zero still bids for free. In the main duel it only adds display stats, which the design accepts at the cost of gas.
- Several wallets: there is still one mate payout per game, under the same caps.
One documentation mismatch, not reported as a defect:
launch.jsonsays a trade's fee counts "for the game its bid is for". The code counts it for the game in progress after the trade's move, which is what your brief describes. The notes may need updating. Not covered: I didn't review the engine's correctness (you said to trust it) or

The review is complete. The findings file holds an empty list: I found no defect in the assigned economic area that I could substantiate with a failing input.
What I reviewed (all of
src/IMDuelHook.sol, withStrength.sol, the token, and the v4Hooks/PoolManagerswap path inlib/), against the Economic Security, Invariant and Flow Gap guides:- Solvency. Every claim the hook mints equals what it books. The pot fee mints only what
_addChestactually fitted, the IMD slice mints only what fitted in the main pot, and the burned slice is owed to the dead address in full. Pots only shrink in_payMate, which takes at most a quarter of the loser's pot. Claims leave only through_send, after the owed slot is set to 1. An oversized swap amount is stopped by the manager'stoInt128inmintbefore the hook's narrowing cast can truncate. Per currency, held equals pots plus burn plus owed. - The three prize caps and inflow bookkeeping. The pot fee is added to the pot in
_takeFeebut recorded as inflow only after_play, under the game number then current. A trade that resolves a mate therefore counts for the next game, so the loser's pot always physically holds at least the inflow the cap allows. Across games each pot is non-decreasing. A player trading alone recovers at most 0.325% of its volume against 0.75% charged, and a self-trading LP only recoups the LP fee, not the hook fee, so farming the pot is net negative. Donations and cross-pool slices raise the quarter cap but never the inflow cap. - Cross-pool slice. For IMD-paired side duels the slice goes to the main duel's IMD pot in the same currency the hook minted, including the native-ETH IMD case. Second IMD/$IMDUEL pools burn their slice.
- Claim and burn paths. Only the hook's own
unlockreachesunlockCallback. Reentrancy from a native recipient inside its withdraw cannot re-enterwithdraworfundChest, and a swap it performs leaves the books exact. Owed to the zero address, the hook or the manager can never be credited. - Bidding, partial fills, exact output. The 10% raise, the window reset after an empty window, the expired-hash replay for nobody, the timeout bid, and the carried next-move bid all behave as the comments state. The after-swap full-fill check is exact for both swap directions. The exact-output fee on the specified side is computed on the requested amount rather than the gross pool output, which makes the effective rate about 0.748% rather than 0.75%. That matches the documented "the fee part taken before the swap counts all of it" rule and is not exploitable.
- Engine gas gating. The 63/64 check is tight, so a trader cannot starve the engine into the 0% fallback or a draw. Starving reverts the trade.
What ran.

tx.origin, which pays relayers for smart wallets. The builder of a window's last block can bid in it and try versions of it. Anyone funding a pot weakens that team's buys and the money is not recoverable. Scope covered. I read the whole hook, the token, Strength, Rules, Chess and the launch notes, and applied the Math Precision, Boundary and Numerical Gap guides to every value-moving path: the two-sided pot fee and the slice in
_takeFee, the cross-pool IMD slice into the main pot, the chest saturation, the packed per-game inflow word, the three prize caps in_payMate, the strength curve, the bid raise threshold, the partial-fill check on exact-input and exact-output swaps, the claim and burn paths, the native ETH branches offundChestandunlockCallback, and the transient-slot bookkeeping across two swaps in one unlock. What I verified empirically. The build passes. The project's MatePot, Money, FeeSchedule, Bidding, Slice, Windows, PotStrength, Strength and InvariantDuels suites all pass. Four scratch probes I wrote confirmed the behaviour I traced by hand and then were deleted:
- An exact-output bid's size is the pool input net of the hook's input-side fee, and its strength is read on the gross output, which the project's own PotStrength test treats as intended.
- A timeout bid for nobody is replaced in the same block by a mover trade and resolves for that owner next block.
- An expired-hash kept bid must still be beaten by more than 10%, and the books stay solvent afterwards.
- The strength curve lands at 0%, ~30%, ~60% and 90% at the documented shares.
Economics checked by hand. Self-trading, a sole LP, a dust game, a side duel with the attacker's own token and multi-wallet farming all lose money: every trade pays 0.75% while at most 0.325% of its loser-token leg reaches the losing pot, and the prize is capped at that game's inflow into that pot, twice the mating bid, and a quarter of the pot. A resolving trade's fee counts for the next game and is already in the chest when the quarter is computed, so solvency holds in every currency.
The one finding (info). The repetition draw check in
_repeatedatsrc/IMDuelHook.sol:732reads the lane of the half-move just played before that lane is overwritten, so the window is 17 half-moves rather than the 16 stated in Chess.sol and the launch notes. No money moves on a draw, so the impact is a documentation mismatch at the ring's edge. The fix is either to skip that lane or to correct the text. Not run. Echidna and Medusa are not available here, so the fuzz testers under test/fuzz were not exercised beyond Foundry's own invariant run.

Audit flowAgent #330found 1 low
The review is complete and
.imd-findings.jsonholds the result.Outcome: one low-severity finding, no critical, high or medium defects in the assigned area. The control-flow passes (Execution Trace, Periphery, First Principles) over
src/IMDuelHook.solfound the money and game paths consistent with the stated design. What I verified, by tracing the code against the v4 PoolManager and Hooks library and by running the suites:
- Solvency. Every claim the hook mints equals what it books: pot additions, the burn owed to 0x...dEaD, and the slice into the main duel's IMD pot. Mate payouts move value from a pot to an owed slot within the same currency. Withdraw burns claims and takes exactly the owed amount, leaving 1 wei.
- The three prize caps and the per-game inflow. The inflow of a trade is held in transient storage and booked after its move, so a game-ending trade counts for the next game. The mate reads the inflow before that booking, so a dust game pays nothing and a self-trading LP recovers at most its own 0.325%.
- Partial fills and exact-output swaps. The afterSwap check compares the pool delta against the specified amount plus the before-fee, which matches v4's
amountToSwapadjustment in both shapes. A partial fill reverts. - Bid ownership and in-block replacement, the expired-hash replay for nobody, the timeout bid, the carry-over into the next game, and the engine-failure draw path. The gas-starvation guard reverts in every starved case I traced.
- Reentrancy. No attacker code runs during a swap. Code that runs during withdraw or fundChest cannot re-enter an unlock and finds no pending state.
- Side duels. A second IMD/$IMDUEL pool at another fee tier is a side duel with its own pots and a burned slice. A side duel's slice only ever adds to the main pot.
The finding. Any trader, not only the block builder named in the accepted risks, can buy 1000 wei of the side-to-move's token in the window's closing block when that team has not bid. The bid opens at strength 0 and cannot be answered in a later block, so the team's move plays near-randomly for the dust bidder. Reproduced in a scratch test with exact state values; a minimal fix is to extend the window by one block when a first bid lands in its closing block.
Scope notes. I did not re-audit ChessEngineV5 or Bitboard beyond how the hook consumes their results, since the engine is a trusted, previously audited input. The suites I ran (Money, Bidding, Windows, Slice, Hostile, MatePot, Game, Teams) all pass. Test files under test/scratch/ are mine and kept only as the reproduction.

Audit judgeAgent #1987found 1 low, 1 info
I found no critical, high or medium issues in IMDuelHook. Two findings are in
.imd-findings.json, one low and one info; both are specialist leads I reproduced and corrected.Low: a dust buy can play a quiet team's move at 0% strength (
src/IMDuelHook.sol:440). This is the flow specialist's finding, corrected. If the side to move doesn't bid within its window (turnBlocks, about 36 s at launch), anyone can buy 1000 wei of that side's token and own the move. Strength is set by the buy's share of the team's pot, so a buy that size gets 0%. The move is played in the next block, so the team can't outbid in time. That puts a quiet team at 0% after about 36 s instead of the 600 s timeout, and the attacker doesn't need to build blocks or know the dice.- Correction: the specialist said only a buy in the window's last block does this. Line 440 gives a first buy after the window the same one-block window, so the last block isn't special. A test confirms both cases.
- Impact: no money is at risk, since a mate by that move pays at most twice the dust.
- Fix: give a late first bid a full
turnBlockswindow instead of one block.
Info: the repetition draw doesn't match the rule in
Chess.sol(src/IMDuelHook.sol:732). This merges the math specialist's lead with a second case I found. The rule is a position's third occurrence within the last 16 half-moves; the code differs in two ways:- The window is 17 half-moves. The check runs before the new position is stored, so it still sees the entry from 16 half-moves back. After 1.e3 e6 and two knight shuffles, a position seen at plies 2, 10 and 18 ends the game as a draw at ply 18.
- The start position counts as an earlier occurrence however long ago it was (lines 729–730). The start at plies 0, 12 and 24 ends the game as a draw at ply 24, though only two of those are within 16 half-moves. The engine isn't told about this extra count, so it can walk into a draw it can't see.
No money moves on a draw. The fix is either to document the actual rule or to tighten the check.
What held up (by reading the code; the existing suite, invariant tests included, passes all 174 tests, but I wrote no new tests for these):
- Solvency: every claim the hook mints is matched by a pot, the burn owed to 0x…dEaD, or an owed payout.
- Prize caps: all three apply, each in the loser's token.
- Per-game inflow: a trade's pot fee counts for the game in progress after its move, and is counted only once.
- Lone or multi-wallet farming: loses money. A game pays back at most 0.325% of volume into the losing pot, against 0.75% charged.
- Other paths: the cross-pool slice, the claim and burn paths, partial fills, exact-output swaps, the hookData owner fallback, the expired-hash replay and the engine-gas guards behave as described.
Neither finding is high, so neither carries a Foundry proof. I ran my scratch tests (four, all passing on the current code, which shows the behaviour exists) and then deleted them; the findings file describes them. I reviewed the code myself in passes covering the checklist areas, with no helpers. The engine's internals were out of scope as trusted.
