Night Canvas: turn every night Squeektoshi runs into a one-of-a-kind pixel artwork.

Squeekchain is a hamster-powered proof-of-work toychain on Ethereum: Squeektoshi runs on the WHEELY9000 wheel and his work produces Squeek blocks.

Data (read-only, public, CORS-enabled). Follow the published schemas at https://docs.squeekchain.com/developers/api/ and check schemaVersion:

  • GET https://api.squeekchain.com/v1/measurement/stats?rane=30d : activity.days[] (48 half-hour buckets per day), typicalDay[], records, blocks.
  • GET https://api.squeekchain.com/v1/status : measurement.coreStatus (IDLE / ACTIVE / COUNTER_FAULT), rpmMilli (thousandths of an RPM), speedMmPerSecond, distanceMm (today), freshness. Missing or "unavailable" values mean unknown, never zero. No wallet, no keys, no transactions, no backend. Respect rate limits and handle 429 with Retry-After.

Sections:

  1. Tonight: a live canvas that paints itself while Squeektoshi runs (poll status every 15 s), with RUNNING / RESTING / SIGNAL LOST, speed and distance today.
  2. Gallery: one artwork per night for the last 30 days. Each artwork is generated deterministically from that day's 48 buckets (same data, same image): a radial wheel where each slice is a half-hour, color shows activity and rings show intensity; quiet nights look calm, busy nights burst with color. Show date, distance, active hours and best half-hour.
  3. Artwork page: large view, stats, "Download PNG" (1200x675 with date, stats and squeekchain.com) and "Share on X" (opens an X post intent with text and the page link).
  4. Records wall: best night, longest streak and a typical-day heatmap from typicalDay[].
  5. About: how the art is made, links to squeekchain.com and docs.squeekchain.com, "Unofficial community art project", and a welfare note: Squeektoshi only runs when he chooses to.

Style: pixel art, warm night palette, cute hamster mascot, mobile-first, light and dark mode, fast, WCAG AA contrast, no trackers.

Saved the findings and complete requirement audit to .imd-findings.json.

One medium accessibility finding: heatmap buttons shrink to 17.7px wide at 320px, with insufficient spacing. Use grid columns with a 24px minimum.

19 tests and 14 browser check groups passed. Safari remains unverified because WebKit could not launch. Public block history was unavailable and correctly shown as unknown. Nothing was fabricated; website files were unchanged.

    • mediumaccessibility: heatmap buttons become too small and crowded at narrow and desktop widthssrc/styles.css:881

Now: Fixed 12-, 24-, and 48-column grids squeeze the selectable half-hours below the checklist’s 24px size/spacing bar. At 320px all 48 buttons are 17.66×24px with adjacent centres only 21.66px apart; at 1440px they are 19.25×32px with 23.25px between centres.

Change to: Replace the fixed column counts in .heatmap and its responsive overrides with grid-template-columns: repeat(auto-fit, minmax(24px, 1fr)); retain the existing gaps, 48 buttons, row-by-row ordering, and data table.

Why: These are pointer controls that select a specific half-hour. Give each a reliable hit area to prevent neighbouring selections on phones. The accessible data table is useful, but the interactive grid still misses the supplied target-size/spacing bar; this finding does not claim the table’s equivalent-function exception is unavailable under WCAG.

Widths: 320×700 and 1440×900, Chromium, default text size, either theme.

Open the static export with a successful schemaVersion:1 stats response (the public API returned HTTP 200 during review), choose Records, and inspect the 48 button.heat-cell elements.

      At 320px run: const a=document.querySelectorAll("button.heat-cell"); const r=a[0].getBoundingClientRect(); const s=a[1].getBoundingClientRect(); ({width:r.width,height:r.height,centreDistance:s.x-r.x}); actual={width:17.65625,height:24,centreDistance:21.65625}.

      At 1440px actual={width:19.25,height:32,centreDistance:23.25}.

Expected: at least 24×24px targets or enough spacing for non-overlapping 24px centred circles.

An independent @axe-core/playwright 4.11.0 scan with withRules(["target-size"]) at 320px reports 48 nodes: "Target has insufficient size (17.7px by 24px, should be at least 24px by 24px)" and safe clickable diameter 19.4px.

The supplied taste@1 targets check passes because it evaluates targets only at 390px, where these centres are 26.33px apart.

The same undersizing also reproduces at 353, 360, 609 and 1121px.
