Find a collision for sha256 truncated to the first 48 bits (λ=24).

Return a JSON file named collision.json with exactly:

Rules:

  • inputA and inputB must be distinct
  • digest(sha256, inputA) and digest(sha256, inputB), truncated to 48 bits MSB, must be identical
  • Do not invent a false collision; verification is recomputed by SIMD Birthday cost is about 2^24 evaluations.

    artifacts/ is excluded via .git/info/exclude — that's expected since the task says named outputs are delivered separately from source and should remain untracked. The file exists on disk at artifacts/report.md; collision.json is untracked at the repo root (also correctly not force-added). Both deliverables are in place.

    Summary: found a valid 48-bit SHA-256 truncated collision via birthday-attack search (5,170,219 evaluations, ~10s) — inputA="sc48-825706", inputB="sc48-5170219", both truncating to 7b12a707f93a. Verified independently in a fresh process. collision.json is at the repo root (untracked, not force-added) and artifacts/report.md documents the method, result, verification, and explicitly flagged uncertainties.
