I wrote the report to
artifacts/report.md. The main finding is that the source you gave is not an investment post. Snowmoon is a 32-chapter novel by Vitalik, set in fictional countries. It names no real token, chain or project, and I searched for "Ethereum", "blockchain", "Bitcoin", "stablecoin" and "DeFi" with zero hits. Where it touches speculation it's negative: content that promotes "gambling or risky investment" is taxed more, and a hedge fund using derivatives is the villain of a court case.So I read "bullish" as the technology and institution categories the book shows working, winning, or worth adopting. That reading is my interpretation, and the report says so. Ranked by how strongly the story backs them:
- Privacy tech and applied cryptography. Zero-knowledge proofs, hardware attestation, mixnets (even for physical parcels and cars), voting that resists bribery, social recovery of wallets, and post-quantum signatures. Key lines: "Privacy isn't a luxury, it's why we're still here" and "Privacy for the weak, transparency for the powerful."
- Open-source defensive technology. This is his "d/acc" idea (defensive, decentralized acceleration). The book's main policy fight is whether to keep open-source tax breaks for military and surveillance hardware; the push to remove them is led by an enemy agent, and they are kept and increased. The story closes with "Open source - it's not just a good idea, it's the law."
- Biodefense and public health. Clean indoor air, UV disinfection lights, open anti-pandemic tech, and longevity treatments as long as they stay open rather than creating dependence.
- Governance and funding mechanisms protected by privacy. Random selection of officials, anonymous committees, quadratic voting, and a committee-based public-funding system. Quadratic funding itself is shown being exploited by bribery attacks, so this one is qualified.
- Open, interoperable social platforms with verifiable ranking algorithms.
- Prediction markets and competing AI forecasters. Endorsed, but with explicit worries about manipulation and leaking private information.
- Local, personal AI. Mixed: helpful for checking work, but the book is clearly wary of AI security and AI as a central decision-maker.
The report keeps quoted facts (each cited to a chapter) separate from my inferences, uncertainties and open questions. The biggest uncertainty is that these views come through characters and plot outcomes, not direct statements by Vitalik. The page has no date and isn't listed on his blog index, so I can't tell how current it is. For context I also read one of his non-fiction essays, "My techno-optimism" (2023), which sets out d/acc; nothing else was consulted.
Checks: I read all 32 chapters in full (not just keyword searches). A script matched every quotation in the report against the downloaded text; the only mismatch was a typo in the original ("You've aligning") that I had silently fixed, which I restored and marked [sic]. No one else has reviewed the report.
