Fren Pet Costume Contest 2026 group 1

You are one guest judge at a community costume contest. Imagine these digital pets presented by their players who made the costumes for the pets.

Choose the costumes you find most impressive, creative and memorable overall. Use the guidelines below to inform your judgment, without assigning numerical scores or mechanically counting features.

Write a judging report based on visually inspecting the supplied images. You are judging existing costumes, not creating images or designing new costumes.

Eligible entries: A, B, C, D, E, F, G. There are exactly seven entries.

Costume collage: https://fren-pet-h2026-collage.rckmtlshared.chatgpt.site/FPCC-2026-actual-entries-A-G.png

Layout: Top row: A, B, C

Middle row: D, E, F

Bottom row: G, centered. The empty spaces are not entries.

Normal-pet reference: https://fren-pet-h2026-collage.rckmtlshared.chatgpt.site/Fren-Pet-normal-appearance-reference.png

The reference is not an entry. Use it to distinguish normal pet features from player-created costume elements.

These are Fren Pets from pet.game. Their players used the in-game Hat Crafter to make costumes.

Look favorably on:

  • Creativity, interesting or unique idea or a known idea/char being executed very well.
  • Complexity, if it has lots of details, if you can easily tell what it's meant to be, if the details are interesting or highly detailed themselves.
  • It actually looks like the pet is wearing a costume(ie: it sits well on the pet and looks natural, or, it totally transforms the pet); if it feels like the pet "dressed up"

Be extra impressed if-

  • There are visible costume-related props. more props is more impressive
  • Coordinated multi-piece costumes. more pieces is more impressive
  • Inventive use of the Hat Crafter that goes beyond ordinary headwear. -Feels like it has a strong "wow" factor

The original pet may be completely covered, that is fine.

It is also fine if parts of the pet are showing.

Be less impressed for costumes with-

-Visibly poor execution

-Bland/unclear design

-Low quality(poor resolution or defects in the costume images)

-Lacks a "wow" factor

Judge the visible result. Do not guess how much time, effort or technical difficulty went into making it.

Give credit only for costume elements. Ignore intrinsic pet traits, backgrounds, labels, tile position and screenshot quality.

Form your own judgment. Do not open or read other judges’ reports, search for contest results, or try to predict what other judges will choose. Do not simulate additional judges.

Actually inspect the collage, the normal-pet reference and every eligible entry. Successfully opening a URL is not enough by itself. If a detail is too small in the collage, open that entry’s individual crop:

https://fren-pet-h2026-collage.rckmtlshared.chatgpt.site/FPCC-2026-entry-{LETTER}.png

Replace {LETTER} with A, B, C, D, E, F or G. These are detail views of the same seven entries, not additional entries.

If you cannot visually inspect the images clearly enough to judge all seven entries, return status “unable_to_judge” and explain the limitation. Do not invent observations, provide a guessed ranking, or treat missing evidence as a poor costume.

Otherwise, return status “judged” and provide:

  1. One concrete visual observation and a brief impression of each entry.
  2. Your complete preference order, best to least preferred, using every letter A–G exactly once.
  3. A short explanation of why your first choice deserves to win.
  4. A short explanation of why your second choice deserves runner-up.
  5. A short explination of why your third choice deserves 3rd place
  6. Any important uncertainty or particularly close choice.

Your ranking should reflect your overall preference under these guidelines. Do not use category scores, weights or a points table.

Keep the report concise and grounded in visible details. No additional web research is needed.

Write your report and matching JSON ballot to the filenames assigned to your judging step. Both must contain the same ranking and choices.

I've written the Judge 4 ballot to artifacts/fpcc/group-1/judge-4.md and artifacts/fpcc/group-1/judge-4.json, with status "judged". One caveat: I couldn't open the contest image links, so I judged from copies of the images that were already saved in the repository.

    Ranking: F > E > A > D > G > C > B

    1. F (winner): Black-and-gold samurai armour with a horned helmet, a purple-flamed sword, a flame aura and a shadow-wolf companion. It transforms the pet almost completely and has the biggest "wow" factor.
    2. E (runner-up): Afro, beard, denim outfit, a paintbrush and an easel holding a landscape painting. You can tell right away it's the famous TV painter, and it has two props.
    3. A (third): Very detailed gold-and-crimson "Monkey King" armour with a horned helmet and a gold staff. It fits the monkey pet naturally but has only one prop.

Below those: D (dark sorcerer: complete and spooky, but hard to read at this size), G (tidy naval-admiral costume with a spyglass), C (spotted cap and sword, only two pieces), B (knight helmet with a small cat head on top, just headwear).

The closest call was E against A, and I explain it in the ballot. Both files have the same ranking and choices, an observation for each of the seven entries, and no numerical scores. I did not open the other judges' reports.

    • What failed: Every download from the contest image site was refused by this machine's network proxy. A test request to example.com failed the same way.
    • What I used instead: The repository already has the collage, the normal-pet reference and all seven close-ups under scratch/fpcc/, added by earlier work. I looked at all nine. They match the layout and entry letters the brief describes, but I couldn't confirm they are byte-for-byte the files at the live links. The ballot records this in its uncertainty and limitation fields.
    • What is inference: Naming the characters (Monkey King, TV painter, anime pirate, admiral) is my reading of what's visible, and the ballot says so.

Checks: A script confirmed the JSON ballot ranks A–G exactly once each, has seven observations, and that its first, second and third choices match the top three of the ranking. Nothing else was run, since this task involves no code to build or test.

git status lists several new dotfiles, such as .bashrc and .gitmodules. I didn't create them: they are empty placeholders the sandbox puts in place, not real files.
