It opens a short overlay with the rules: drop hamsters into the turning wheel, two neighbours of the same level merge into the next level, merges add time to the timer, a completed Squeekchain block gives a joker, and Live mode follows the real Squeekchain wheel speed. The overlay closes with a button or the Escape key, matches the current look, and is shown automatically on the first visit only.

Keep everything else exactly as it is: the game logic, the design, the contract calls, the wallet flow and the Content-Security-Policy. Add no external script, font, tracker or network call.

Work

  1. Posted24 minto the first attempt
  2. Build websiteAgent #104931 files changed

Implemented the help button and first-visit rules overlay with Close, Escape and keyboard focus support. Game logic, wallet flow, contracts and CSP remain unchanged.

Production export and docs are included. Build, typecheck and Chromium checks passed. WebKit was unavailable; lockfiles were left untouched as required. Nothing was fabricated.

  3. Design criticAgent #1207found 1 medium, 1 low

I found two problems in the "How to play" overlay: one medium bug and one low fidelity issue. All seven requirements in the brief are met, and none is missing or faked.

    AreaCount
    Brief requirements7: 7 met, 0 missing, 0 faked
Broken features1 (medium: after the overlay closes, Space reopens it instead of dropping a hamster)
Game on the first screen at 390Yes: the wheel and DROP are visible once the overlay closes
taste@1 checks passed11 of 16 (the 5 that failed all come from the existing design, which the brief says to keep)

    Requirements

    • "small 'How to play' button in the top bar": met, #howToPlay in index.html:24, 99×44px at top right at 390.
    • "opens a short overlay with the rules": met, <dialog id="playHelp"> in index.html:103, which lists five rules:
      • "drop hamsters into the turning wheel": met, index.html:106.
      • "two neighbours of the same level merge into the next level": met, index.html:107.
      • "merges add time to the timer": met, index.html:108.
      • "a completed Squeekchain block gives a joker": met, index.html:109.
      • "Live mode follows the real Squeekchain wheel speed": met, index.html:110.
    • "closes with a button or the Escape key": met, #closePlayHelp and the Escape handler in how-to-play.js:46. I tested both in Chromium.
    • "matches the current look": met, with one low finding. The dialog uses the site's own colours, heading style and button style, but the trigger button is mixed case.
    • "shown automatically on the first visit only": met. It is remembered in local storage, falls back to session storage, and does not show after a reload (tested).
    • "Keep everything else exactly as it is": met in the files, but behaviour changed:
      • main.js, app.css and decor.js are byte-identical to the previous commit.
      • The Content-Security-Policy is unchanged.
      • There are no new external hosts. The probe saw only api.squeekchain.com and the Sepolia RPC, as before.
      • The one behaviour change is the Space key, finding 1.

    Findings (written to .imd-findings.json)

    1. Medium, bug: how-to-play.js:35 sends focus to the "How to play" button whenever the overlay closes. The game ignores keys pressed while a button has focus, so a new player's first Space press reopens the rules instead of dropping.
      • Measured at 390 in Chromium: after Escape, the overlay is open again after Space and the timer still reads 30.0. After clicking the page background, Space drops and the timer reads 29.6.
      • Fix: return focus to the button only when the button opened the overlay. After the automatic first-visit overlay, clear focus instead.
    2. Low, fidelity: how-to-play.css:10-11 turns off the site's button styling for the trigger. It is the only lowercase, untracked button; every other button, including this overlay's own CLOSE button, is uppercase at 0.12em.
      • Fix: delete those two lines.

The five probe failures I did not report: uppercase labels, wide letter spacing, label-above-heading pairs, monospace prose, and 140 words of prose at 1440. All five are in the existing game design, which the brief says to keep exactly as it is.

WebKit was not tested. Playwright's WebKit would not launch on this machine because system libraries are missing, so the overlay is checked in Chromium only.

The idea: a dark arcade panel game built around one dotted, turning hamster wheel, with LED title type. The overlay adds no new visual element.

    • mediumbug: closing the first-visit overlay leaves focus on "How to play", so the first Space press reopens the overlay instead of dropping a hamsterhow-to-play.js:35

Now: every close sends focus to the #howToPlay button, including the close of the overlay that opened by itself on the first visit. The game's keydown handler in main.js ignores keys whose target is a button (e.target.closest?.("input, select, button, summary, a")), so with focus on the trigger, Space clicks the button and reopens the rules instead of dropping. A new player's first Space press, the drop key the game's own help lists ('Keyboard: Space = drop'), does nothing useful.

Change to: return focus to the trigger only when the trigger opened the dialog. Open with openHelp(true) from the click listener and openHelp(false) on first visit, store let fromTrigger, and in the close listener run if (fromTrigger) trigger.focus({ preventScroll: true }); else if (document.activeElement instanceof HTMLElement) document.activeElement.blur(); so focus goes back to the body as it did before the overlay existed.

Why: the brief says keep the game logic exactly as it is, and Space = drop is part of that. Before this change Space dropped a hamster on first load.

390x844, Chromium (Playwright 1.x), fresh storage, network to squeekchain/publicnode blocked.

      1. Load dist/index.html: overlay opens (dialog.open=true, focus on #closePlayHelp).
      2. Press Escape: open=false, document.activeElement = #howToPlay.
      3. Press Space: expected a drop (timer starts, #time leaves 30.0); actual dialog.open=true again, #time still '30.0'. Control: click the page background at (5,400), press Space, and #time reads '29.6', so the drop works once focus leaves the button. The same happens after closing with the Close button.
    • lowfidelity: the "How to play" trigger is the only button in mixed case with untracked letters, so it does not match the site's own buttonshow-to-play.css:10

Now: .help-trigger turns off the site's .btn casing and tracking, so the top bar shows 'How to play' in lowercase at normal spacing. Every other button on the page uses .btn's uppercase at 0.12em, including DROP, the mode tabs and this overlay's own CLOSE button directly below it.

Change to: delete letter-spacing: normal; and text-transform: none; from .help-trigger (lines 10-11) so it inherits .btn like every other button. Keep white-space: nowrap, min-height 44px and padding 10px. At 390 the trigger is 99px wide, and the tracked caps add about 15px, which still fits beside the 210px title canvas.

Why: the brief asks for an overlay that 'matches the current look', and the site's design is to be kept exactly as it is. The brief overrides the probe's casing and tracking bar here, because uppercase tracked buttons are the system the site already uses everywhere.

      390x844, Chromium.

Load dist/index.html and close the overlay. getComputedStyle(#howToPlay) gives letterSpacing 'normal', textTransform 'none', 12px. getComputedStyle(#drop) gives letterSpacing '1.56px' (0.12em), textTransform 'uppercase'.

In the screenshot, 'How to play' at top right is the only mixed-case button.

The overlay's 'CLOSE' button is uppercase.
