Build a small browser rhythm game called "Wheel Rhythm", a static single-page site (HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript, no backend, no wallet needed). The game is played on the real-time activity of Squeekchain's hamster wheel.

GAMEPLAY

A pixel-art hamster runs on a wheel. Seeds fall down 3 lanes. The player catches them with keys A, S, D (or Left, Down, Right arrows) on desktop and by tapping the lanes on mobile. Timing windows: perfect, good, miss. Show a combo counter and a score. Save the best score in localStorage. Score and combo reset rules: a miss resets the combo to zero.

LIVE DATA (the core of the game)

Every 5 seconds fetch https://api.squeekchain.com/v1/status (public, CORS enabled, JSON). Use exactly these fields:

  • measurement.rpmMilli: wheel RPM x 1000 (0 when idle). Drives seed speed and density.
  • measurement.coreStatus: "SPINNING" or "IDLE". Decides the mode.
  • measurement.freshness: "online" means live. Treat anything else, or data older than measurement.staleAfterSeconds (120), as stale.
  • builder.anchor.blockProgress: string, 0 to 1e9. Divide by 1e9 for a block progress bar.
  • builder.anchor.blockHeight: string, show as a small label like "Block #5204". Read every field defensively (values may be strings or numbers, any can be missing) and never crash. If the request fails or the data is stale, keep the last good values and show a small "offline, last data" badge.

MODES

The hamster is asleep most of the time, so IDLE must be a complete, fun game mode, not an empty screen.

  • SPINNING (the hamster is running): difficulty scales with rpmMilli, clamped to a playable range. Score multiplier x2 and a short "he is running" visual effect.
  • IDLE (rpmMilli is 0 or coreStatus is IDLE): the track is the hamster's real last 24 hours. Fetch https://api.squeekchain.com/v1/settlements?range=24h (buckets[], each with workAdded and settlementCount). Map the 24 hourly buckets to 24 short sections of one track. Higher workAdded in an hour means denser, faster seeds for that section. An hour with 0 work is a quiet rest section with a sleeping hamster. Show a small 24-hour strip above the lanes so the player sees which hour they are playing. The track is the same for every player that day, so scores are comparable. If the endpoint is unreachable, fall back to a built-in calm pattern and show a small "offline track" badge. Score multiplier x1.
  • Label the modes clearly: "Live" (hamster running) and "Replay of the last 24 hours" (hamster asleep).
  • When the status flips from IDLE to SPINNING during a run, show a clear wake-up moment and switch to the x2 live mode without restarting the run.

UI

  • Header: live status pill (SPINNING or IDLE), RPM, block height, and the block progress bar.
  • Game area with 3 lanes, a hit line, combo and score.
  • Start screen with 3 short rules. Game over screen with score, best score and a Play again button.
  • Responsive: works at 360 px width on mobile and on desktop. Touch targets at least 48 px.
  • Colors: dark navy background, gold and warm orange accents, simple pixel look, readable text, good contrast.
  • Sound effects optional, with a mute toggle, muted by default.

QUALITY

  • Smooth 60 fps with requestAnimationFrame, no layout jank.
  • No external libraries, no tracking, no wallet connection.
  • Include a README that explains how the game reads the Squeekchain API and how to tune difficulty.
  • All text in English. Do not use any copyrighted characters.

Built Wheel Rhythm with the static dist/ export, source, lockfile, README, DESIGN.md, and validation evidence.

Passed build/typecheck, 20 tests, 13 browser checks, and all 16 design checks. Submission: 651 KiB.

Limitation: globally identical daily replays aren’t guaranteed by the rolling API; score comparisons require matching track IDs.

    • mediumbug: gameplay messages overlap rest and pause text on mobilesrc/style.css:150

Now: The absolute judgement at 30% of the playfield overlaps the rest heading positioned at 22%; the wake banner also covers the centered pause heading.

Change to: Move .judgement below the rest message (for example inset-block-start: 60%) and reserve 60px above the pause content while the wake banner is visible, or defer that banner until Resume. Keep the hit line and lane controls in place.

Why: Timing feedback, quiet-hour guidance and the required wake-up moment must remain readable; these reachable mobile states put text over text.

Chromium and WebKit, 390×844, default text size.

      Intercept /v1/status with measurement {coreStatus:"IDLE",rpmMilli:0,freshness:"online",observedAt:current ISO time,staleAfterSeconds:120} and builder.anchor {blockHeight:"5204",blockProgress:"637347328"}.

Intercept /v1/settlements?range=24h with 24 chronological hourly buckets alternating workAdded:"100",settlementCount:"1" and workAdded:"0",settlementCount:"0", starting active.

Start playing, wait 5.8 seconds including the 2.4-second countdown, and tap any lane during section 2.

Actual: "Miss" paints over "A quiet hour" for 550ms.

      Measured #judgement y=571.09–607.09 and #rest-label strong y=580.53–610.53 overlap by 26.56px.

Then pause and return a fresh SPINNING/90000 status on the next poll: the wake banner covers the pause heading "Take a breather."

(banner y=424.5–472.5 after its entrance animation; pause heading starts y=455.70).

Expected: each feedback message has its own unobstructed text area.

      Screenshots visually confirm both collisions.

    • lowfidelity: the guide close target shrinks below 48px on mobilesrc/style.css:71

Now: .utility declares a 48px width, but #close-help is a shrinking flex item beside the guide heading, so its actual width is only 46.36px at the required 360px viewport.

Change to: Add flex-shrink: 0 (or min-inline-size: 48px) to .utility and let the existing heading wrap.

Why: The brief explicitly requires touch targets of at least 48px; the guide close button is an exception to the otherwise correctly sized game controls.

Chromium at 360×844, default 16px root font.

Open the page and click the header How to play button.

      Evaluate document.querySelector("#close-help").getBoundingClientRect().

Actual width=46.359375px and height=48px; expected width and height both >=48px.

At 320px wide it shrinks further to 44px.

The dialog screenshot and computed geometry confirm the flex shrink; no API fixture is needed.

    • lowbug: the share-card button label extends into the navy backgroundassets/share.svg:9

Now: The gold button in the committed share image ends at x=307, while the dark text "Catch the rhythm" reaches x=311.69. The end of the final letter disappears into the same navy used for the text.

Change to: Increase the existing SVG button rectangle width from 227 to 260 and regenerate assets/share.png and its exported copy.

Why: The supplied social card should retain a complete readable action when the game link is shared; enlarging the existing background preserves the artwork and copy.

At 1200×630, open the og:image asset assets/share.png and inspect the final letter of "Catch the rhythm" at the right edge of its gold button.

Render assets/share.svg at its native size in Chromium and call getBBox() on that text: x=139,width=172.6875,right=311.6875.

The preceding button rect has x=80,width=227,right=307, leaving 4.6875px of text outside the contrasting background.

Both the committed PNG and a source render show the final letter disappearing at that edge.

Expected: the complete label and right padding fit on gold.
